I expect this mower will last several seasons with decent care. kzfaq.infoUgkx1VWTrayKBdCKAjzAcZ_Eg4dhHTae3LkN also recommend Also, I ran across the problem with it not starting the 2nd time I used it. There is a safety switch which is pushed in by the chute or mulching piece being attached to the deck. I took the cover off and it wouldn't start. Put it back on, no problem. It takes only a minute with 2 easily accessible wingnuts and no tools. This mower starts up first crank each time and it is a joy to use. It also mows in reverse by putting the key to the reverse area after starting and pushing in the triangular button. It will stay in reverse mode until you turn it off. All in all, for my homeowner needs, I really like this mower-and at 70 bucks a cut here in Miami, it's already more than 1/3 paid for itself in a month.

Cute blocker is discharging. I think you meant to include mulch kit in there. Blockers are great until there's leaf debris to deal with.

I was thinking about getting a mulching kit, but it seems like chute blocker is a better way to go. It doesn’t have to mulch as good, but if i go slow I’m sure it’ll mulch it good enough so it looks a lot better

Good video. If I am not bagging I am mulching. I dont discharge for a few reasons such as safety and neatness. Plus with a kit on you can take that mower many more places. Chute blockers still make more mess than a mulch kit. Of course as conditions get nasty, with a mulch kit you need to cut more often or higher, or bag for a week or two until it gets manageable again.
@lawncarelife

good points. My current setup is just using the outside baffle on the mulch kit. The full mulch kit can cause the mower to bog down sometimes.

Mulching is a must for adding nutrients back. But I do bag occasionally to use the clipping in my compost bins. I have not found my blades getting dull much faster but I tend to keep my blades sharp anyway. And I am talking about well-managed lawns that are not choked with thatch. (I aerate and dethatch twice per year). I understand that commercial mower companies bag clippings because it is cleaner and faster, but that is why I do not use their services because I always mulch and they also tend to cut too low because they only cut once per week and it looks cleaner when cut lower but then you are cutting a lot more than 1/3 of the blade of grass. Wrong. I have asked them to raise their decks but it takes them too much time. So, I do my own, and do it right. But I go over the top and send soil samples to extension office and adjust ph in the soil, have a wi-fi irrigation system, top dress with self made compost and roll on peat moss. A good looking lawn takes a lot of work. At times in the spring I cut the lawn 3 x's/week. And yes I have a stripe roller. Line-up: Branson (Kukje, SOuth Korea) 60" mid mower, Billy Goat triple blade, Stealth triple, Echo cordless electric (electrics have come a long way, and can cut at 6 AM--quiet). LawnAire Aerator. Dethatcher. So much equipment in a sub urban residence need 6 sheds. Currently looking for aerator for tractor as the Lawnaire is a bit*h to wrestle around with.
@lawncarelife
@lawncarelife 7 жыл бұрын
aeration is no fun. I try to avoid it though it does pay well
@mrtaktiks
@mrtaktiks 7 жыл бұрын
The Lawnaire IV is way to heavy and cumbersome. If I do my yard and some of my neighbors (for free--not too smart), after the 4th good-sized yard my back is shot. And they expect you to do a cross hatch--NOT. I usually dethatch after the aeration to break up the cores. I found an aerator that will mount to the tractor 3pt hitch so I will get that. I have turf tires but I am still afraid of leaving trenches during wet periods. It is a compact tractor but certainly not designed for a suburban residence. Good luck with your upcoming season. BTW, have you ever had to deal with the "bad" bent grass? I have some and it spreads pretty quickly. I bought Tenacity, a selective herbicide and a small bottle was $63. Better than removing the whole lawn though.

You can mimic a season of mulching with a quick topdressing of compost/mushroom manure mixture applied once a year, and that also reduces thatch over time assuming its manageable in the first place. Only time we run a thatcher is for a renovation. After that its just maintain the thatch layer via cultural practices. The only mowing one can 100% of the time here in the northeast, professionally, is bag. There are times one can shred (discharge) or mulch but not 100% of the time. Some guys do just shred all the time and they leave some disastrous messes. I tried leaving the mulch kits on 2 spring seasons in a row and I ended up needed to mow many places every 3 days, most every 5, and only a handful could go a full week until about mid June.

I have a Badboy Magnum MZ for my residential property. Those chutes cost alot. What do you think about creating a bolt-on chute block combined with my mulching blades. If its closed all the time, will it just mulch constantly and drop the clips out the bottom?

I have a hustler zero turn. In the fall I switch to the mulch kit because I have heavy tree coverage. The kit works great but one problem. With the kit installed it seems to force air forward under the deck. Even when moving forward sometimes at moderate speed most of the discharge that leaks under the deck leaks to the front causing me to ride in a constant dust storm. Are there any tricks to force this leak more to the rear? Thx
@lawncarelife
@lawncarelife 6 жыл бұрын
Not sure about any tricks for that but sometimes I only use the outside plate on the mower deck. Sometimes having the inside baffles can can the mower to bog down in thick wet grass. I am not sure if that would help with your problem or not. Thanks for the comment

beck-weth beckweth I don't think they make a chute blocker for that mower. I have heard of people putting cooking oil on the deck to so the grass doesn't stick but I haven't tried it. Sorry, I don't have any good ideas. Sometimes when the grass it wet, it can really make a mess
@daflea66
@daflea66 8 жыл бұрын
I hope you didnt do it. The 30" mowers (Toro and Exmark) are fine particle mowers whether bagging or mulching. That baffle is there for a beneficial reason. Yes there is some buildup over time in wet or excessively tall growth. Mow sooner, higher, or carry a scraper on your belt and bang the heavy stuff off every few lawns.

I don't have much preference. Personally, I don't see much difference in the quality of cut from mulching blades versus standard blades. I have used some blades that were too thin which do not hold an edge as well as a thicker blade. I have used gator blades, mulching blades and straight blades. Can't tell much difference.
