In 1967 my dad put down all his N down as anhydrous in bed on his cotton ground. It was a cool damp yesr not very conducive for raising cotton. One farm grew cotton to height of 7 or 8 foot tall it stayed in the growth/ vegatative stage and shedded most of the blooms. Those stalks had only 2 or 3 bolls per plant... normally a good healthy stalk was about 3.5 to 4 foot tall and had 20 to 25 bolls per plant..

It all boils down to mother nature. You can have the perfect amount of nitrogen in the soil but without rain and heat from the sun...well you know what you get. So how do you moderate the nitrogen amount with the weather? The way i see it, i get lucky or i don't.

I was told not to max out my N based on my Cat. Ex. Rate. Why is that?
