This is another setup that I've been working on for so long that I forgot where I even learned it from. The sneaky transition to the darce choke from side control is something that I've not seen a ton of people do, at least not from this side. Most people catch darce chokes (+ variants) from their opponents turning into them and catching the underhook. The switch darce requires me to turn my opponent away from me first, then catch the choke.
Credit also to The Ground Marshal for this video. He didn't show it to me, but after watching his video on the switch darce I modified my technique to incorporate some of his details. Check out his video here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/lZ2FhceBy764omQ.html

This is super sneaky! I caught 1 of my teammates with this and he literally said "oh crap" right around the time I had already locked it up so you're right lol. Most people don't expect that set up from there. Just harder for me to get to that perfect side control. But thanks a bunch for the move it's in my book now! Great content.

It's definitely sneaky, and there are a lot more transitions off of it once people start to recognize it. Several of my training partners know I'm looking for it, so they fight like mad to get the drydocked arm back down to the mat immediately to block my darce setup. Which is nice, because then I just transition into a north-south choke. :D

@@CheatCodeJiuJitsu mmmm I see great tips thank you sir! So what advice or tips do you have for getting to that perfect side control. I often get in side control but I feel I often don't get that arm sandwiched to where it needs to be because they're so spazzy on bottom immediately as soon as I get to side control. I'm 6'2" athletic build so I'm not light. And once you secure the perfect side control and you get that arm underneath their head to start the scraping are you quick with dragging your body across to secure the darce or do you take a more slow, high pressure/smashy, methodical approach to scraping across their body?

When I'm there I'm usually smashing the piss out of them. Arm under the head, hand on the cheek, pull you elbow back. Their head goes sideways and the pressure comes on hard. I don't really focus on getting there much. If they fight against drydocking it means the arm is going to the ground. Fine with me, I'd rather staple it anyway.

Isn't there an option for a choke when you first start switching at the 3:12 mark?

Yes, you can do a reverse arm triangle (or RAT choke). I don't generally find that to be a high-percentage finish, so I don't go for it much. I'd rather keep going to get the darce, which is a much better choke and has more bailout options if the guy is defending.
