Looking good, nice work. I know many carpenters that can’t pitch roofs. We all make mistakes, it’s getting over them is what counts. 😉. 👊🏻

Cheers mate, that means a lot coming from you. After seeing your work, you're the gold standard!

@@OfficeBoyBuilder I still make mistakes.. I’m not gold, it’s just there’s plenty of Steel standard about with rust on.. Thanks for the positive comments. 👍🏻

Notwithstanding the shimming (it happens to the best of us!!), super-clean install. Looks really nice.

Thanks mate - I was pretty pissed at myself for needing those, and then it being rizzler paper tight at the other end! For my first time it wasn't too bad. The roof at the back was better - no shimming 🤣🙈

Cheers mate! I think it's only fair - especially as a keen DIYer, it doesn't always go right. But if others can learn from my mistakes they can hopefully make less and I learn too. Thanks for the support

Thanks mate, the square helped a load with the job, but all told I was quite happy with it. Cheers for the encouragement!

Happens mate and you didn’t even have to say anything about the mistake, u be surprised what mistakes are made in site everyday that isn’t talked about because like you’ve done by packing isn’t an issue at all ..... obviously personally you want it immaculate but it’s first fix hahaha it gets all covered up 👍

Should trade in that fancy chop saw for a rotary laser mate then will be more accurate with transferring levels (dead level)

Should of created ladder frame on gable for fascia
@OfficeBoyBuilder
@OfficeBoyBuilder 3 жыл бұрын
Do you mean "could" have created a ladder frame...? I did a ladder frame at the back of the house (in an up-coming video) but I didn't want it to project too far out on the side of the house, as per the approved drawings, so I kept a modest overhang.

You could have just plumbed a line down the rendered wall and the work your existing roof angle from that. With a speed square
@OfficeBoyBuilder
@OfficeBoyBuilder 3 жыл бұрын
Yes you're right mate, and I did try that. The difficulty is the accuracy of a speed square given how small they are. Reading a 1/4 of a degree difference on a speed square is almost impossible, but makes a bit difference over the span...tricky!

Could you not have done without the OSB strip on the side with the error and had a less deeper birdsmouth.
@OfficeBoyBuilder
@OfficeBoyBuilder 3 жыл бұрын
That would have worked to keep the rafters level, but I think I would have ended up with slightly (marginally) different wall heights on the outside, and the render at the corner would have stepped down.

Around 170mm overhang, with the guttering attached to that 👍

Why have you gone with an offset ridge?
@Max-tn1us
@Max-tn1us 3 жыл бұрын
Suspect planning dictated it, usually an extension "must be subsurvient to the original dwelling"
@TheToolnut
@TheToolnut 3 жыл бұрын
@@Max-tn1us Madness, a stepped roof line is always to be avoided if possible in my opinion. Planners, most of them are clueless, 🙄
@Max-tn1us
@Max-tn1us 3 жыл бұрын
@@TheToolnut Agreed, unfortunately it's commonplace and in the planning policy. Usually they look to have a differentiation between old and new but when the old isn't that old (e.g. not an old country cottage) then it often ends up looking awkward.
@OfficeBoyBuilder
@OfficeBoyBuilder 3 жыл бұрын
Yes that's exactly what it is - planners told me outright that we wouldn't get planning if it wasn't subservient; stepped back at the front and lower at the ridge. Really not ideal, but it's their way of showing power and control 🤣
