You did an absolutely beautiful job on your pool. I have to do mine so Ive been watching the videos and you make it look much easier than some of the professionals make it look with the same product. Thank you for the tips on what not to do. You give great inspiration to all of us DIY'ers.

Awesome job man!!! Looks great! I have a small leak in my spa which is attached to the pool below. I had a guy come over and quote me over $7000 to plaster the small hole left by the repair of the leak (1 jet). He said it would need the entire (6 Person) spa to be redone. I told him we were going to sell the house but he insisted. When he left I thought..."This dude just insisted his way out of a job!" LOL! After seeing how nice of a job you did...I'm all in on doing it myself. Once again... your pool looks like it was done by a professional! Congrats...:)

Don’t do this to your pool sand professional to come and ship it out and re-plaster is the correct way otherwise this will fail and then they’ll charge you twice as much to replaster it because it’s horrible getting the stuff off

Hi Great job. I am about to start plastering. What is working time for the plaster once it is mixed and before it becomes difficult to roll on? What did you use to get the bull nose round at the steps? Thanks Dan
@alreyindustries
@alreyindustries 2 жыл бұрын
I just continued to add a little water and mix the plaster as it started to stiffen up on me. I didn’t notice any negative effects, so that’s how I kept it rollable. The steps I just used the same process. Rolled on the plaster, used the squeegee to smooth it out as much as possible, then if you let it dry for like 5-10 minutes you can come back with a slightly damp sponge and get out any more imperfections.

Great video - very helpful and reassuring that you are a satisfied customer. We have inset tiles in the floor of our hot tub. Did you need to chip some of the old plaster away from the around the tile so that when you spread the 2 coats of sider-crete on that everything was flush with the tile.
@alreyindustries
@alreyindustries Жыл бұрын
I did not. I just taped over the tiles and rolled the plaster. It may have come out better if I would have done what you are saying, but I have no regrets. I don’t think it would have been worth the work in my situation. The new plaster is not noticeably thicker or above the tiles and you definitely cannot tell with the naked eye when everything is filled with water. So I guess it’s up to your judgment.

WOWZA! Thanks for sharing you awesome restoration project. I'm in the process of researching how to do our pool. Not sure if you still see these post but, great job. I've gotten a couple quotes and they are astronomical so I will definitely be doing what you did. How much product did you use and how do I figure out how much I'll need? Our pools are very similar in shape but ours is 12' deep... Any help is appreciated.

@alreyindustries
@alreyindustries Жыл бұрын
I did not. I guess it all depends on your preference though. The tiles are a little lower than the plaster finish, but it is not a big deal to me so I just taped over them and kept them since they matched the color scheme. Some people might not like the look or feel of that but I guess that’s up to you.

Thanks for the video! Question: I am just doing this to my hot tub and I’m about to do the first coat of plaster. What tools did you use to smooth the plaster after you rolled it on where the steps in your pool are? I’m speaking about the contours around the stairs where you can’t fit the rubber float? My hot tub has so many sharper angles and I’m trying to find the best tools. Thanks!

I don’t know. I wouldn’t recommend it. You could add water and mix it up pretty wet and then pour an additional amount of water to sit on top of it until morning. But it’s risky and it may lose its integrity doing it that way.

@alreyindustries
@alreyindustries Жыл бұрын
The only thing I looked for and chipped out were loose pieces of plaster around the areas of erosion AND I did have some hollow areas where the old plaster was separating/not making a good bond with the cement underneath. I went around knocking on the old plaster to hear if it sounded hollow or not. If it was, I chipped those areas out and repaired all the holes with the repair plaster before putting the final plaster on. Other than that I just rolled the new plaster right over the old.

$1859.42 from sider crete. That was for 11 bags of plaster, the tool kit, 2 bags of sider repair and 1 jug of the resin for the repair stuff. I probably spent $500-700 on tile, cement and grout. Then I bought a new pool light which was around $300. So between $2,500-3,000 I’d say.
