'Project Ukraine' is an online collaboration of KZfaq history content creators to bring alive the history of Ukraine and the events that unfolded there that had an impact on the world.
I am honored to be a part of this collaboration and have used some of my video footage of the Black Death to bring the story of the Siege of Caffa in the Crimea alive. I have remastered the audio, enhanced the video, added sound effects, and included an intro and outro. Enjoy and please consider contributing to the people of Ukraine who are under siege once again.

This video had my stomach turning nearly the entire time. Outstanding pacing, amazing narration and striking visuals. This is one of the most important stories in human history and should be told in every school and this is the by far the best version of this chapter. As someone who has spent 10 years in the medical world and 6 in the historical one I can safely say that you did both of them justice. Bravo!

Once again you've literally MADE MY DAY BRIGHTER! Thank you so very much Sir. You're video imagery is the most beautiful of all history KZfaq channels. Your first series on Al-Andalus was one of my first, possibly and probably most probably THE first (lol) podcast that I remember falling in love with. And from that day forward I've never been able to satisfy my urge to find more and better material to sink into. I'm grateful there's so so many talented podcasters to choose from but to this day your stuff is no doubt top three (couldn't ever actually put inorder my one, two, three) and I always find myself going back and listening to older stuff while of course playing everything new ASAP. Your subject matter, presentation, imagery (video and audio) humor, your emphasis on the historical importance small and major events in history have lasting effects that resonate today, the clear and concise manner you present information especially when such monumental events become complex and difficult to fully grasp and portray significance to seemingly irrelevant bits that actually become pieces key to seeing the big picture.....I could go on and on but I hope you understand, what you do is great and there are so so many people out there who TRULY DO APPRECIATE AND LOVE THE WORK YOU DO. PLEASE keep up the wonderful work and as always thank you.

I think you did a fantastic job of underscoring the true lethality of this pandemic. The plague exerted such a profound impact on human genetics: there have been several mutations attributed to natural selective pressures exerted by the plague (The CD4 T-cell receptor in particular). That war in addition to setting loose the pandemic also led to huge geopolitical changes in the region. After the war and the pandemic the golden horde imploded. The silk road ceased and the only remaining trade route was the one going through Egypt and then from Suez to India. Most of Ukraine was yanked from Mongol control and got into the hands of Lithuania and Poland facilitating the current ethnic divides (Polish Rus became ukrainian, Lithuanian Rus became Belarusian and Moscovian Rus became Russians). The pontic steppes, one of the most important sources of grain then and now became the "wild field" an uninhabited no-man's land producing nothing but slave raiding until 1774. All those changes also pushed west European exploration and colonization. Also need to note that the whole Mongol-Genoese war was related to the conversion of the horde to islam. Oz-Beg converted to islam during his reign but Jani-Beg, the son, was educated by Muslims from early on.

Ferengi, now I know that reference quite well. However, I wonder if people 50 or even 100 years from now will understand that reference. Just in case you do not know, the Ferengi is a fiction species of aliens that was portrayed in the TV series, Star Trek. Though the were seen in most of the spin-offs of Star Trek, they were main characters in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.

@@FlashPointHx I believed you when, in the prologue episode of your War of the Worlds series, you told us that you were going to call it as it was without being more critical or biased toward anything. Now you have a copy/paste talking points intro from the government. With all that has happened and all we now know to be true, how do you defend this? *I donated months ago to a charity that told me it would go to the Ukrainian citizens. That was a 79% lie. Only 21% went to "humanitarian aid". I abhor war and corruption. How ridiculous a world do we live in that a statement of loyalty is mandatory when making a statement that is anti-narrative? You, as an historian, should know how these things go. *Edit* Tone is notoriously difficult to discern from text in a short comment. I'm legit asking. Please don't take my comment as snarky.
