.
. We are continuing on with Flight Training Lessons for Sienna, a student pilot working on her Private Pilot license (certificate). We've been flying a lot recently and she's making progress as she learns to become a pilot.
In this lesson, we mix things up a little bit. Instead of going out and doing a syllabus type lesson, her dad wants to come along. Not the best time for stalls, slow flight, or steep turns!
Most of our work so far has been the basics of coordination, holding altitude, heading, and positive control of the aircraft. Flying the Cessna 172 isn't that hard. It's a very pilot friendly airplane. So even after a few student pilot flight lessons she's really doing well at controlling the airplane.
As we takeoff and go fly through the mountains here in Alaska, the scenery is incredible as always. It being winter time almost, snow is starting to falling on the peaks. But you see some great foliage as well.
Sienna does a great job controlling the airplane with her coordinated turns, stick and rudder skills, and holding altitude.
What I really like about this flight lesson is it's a practical and real flying scenario. This is the type of flying she'll be doing once she gets her private pilot license. But intermixed is me as a CFI teaching her how to do it, and giving pointers. It just went really well. She's doing really well so far.

I love watching Sienna train. My daughter is 13 and her and I both started on our private pilot training last year. She was supposed to fly along with me on my discovery flight but I talked on the side to the instructor about letting her fly instead. She was sitting up front on the ground "just checking it out" and I asked her if she was ready to fly. Her answer was to reach over and buckle herself in. Lol. I really enjoy watching these young ladies take flight! My end goal is to open a flight school that caters to future female pilots and help end the "airMEN". Anyone with a dream to soar and the grit to stick with it should feel they have an equal chance to be an aviator! I worked, climbing tall towers as a tower hand, before my failing back grounded me. Now I'm just scraping by, working from home, where we live in Foresthill, Ca and trying to budget enough between my old ford breaking down constantly to have my daughter and I log time and make our dreams reality! Thank Sienna you for getting out there and helping to inspire other young ladies(and this old guy) to follow their hearts and live free! And thank you Sir for putting these videos out there. I've been grounded for almost two months with my money tied up in old truck repairs. So Ive made it through almost all your videos and I really appreciate the knowledge you share!

Awesome flight, I remember my 3rd flight lesson… I went with a different instructor for my 2nd lesson and got bored, so my primary instructor had me fly low and track a river. One of the most fun and useful experiences. That’s where I got comfortable with coordinated turns.

Hey Chris I sure enjoyed that. I liked how you showed some of the mistakes like powering to the firewall. Those are things I don’t think about but as an instructor it’s really important… especially if it was done on short final by mistake. My old CFI was in an accident once, long after I became certified, when his student was on short final accidentally pulled the mixture rather than the power. He was lucky a power line was there to catch them or they might not have survived the crash. Sienna seems to be a very confident woman, I’m willing to bet she will do well as a pilot. Keep ‘em coming!

You can do an online ground school (we have one). Best thing to do would be to save up a bunch of money and time, and go somewhere to know it out quickly. Could even do it in 3-4 chunks. Won't get anywhere doing it once per month, really.

Right from the beginning my instructor pounded his pet peeves into my head....on takeoff, smooth application of power and guard the throttle ,then check engine instraments prior to rotation when your engine will fail. Throughout every lesson he would ask....if you lost your engine now, where would you land? Later on he would actually pull power, sometimes fully, sometimes partial. In the pattern your hand never leaves the throttle, unless your adjusting something else! Stay coordinated! Feel it in your butt! Eyes outside in the pattern! Listen to the engine noise, it will tell you what it's doing....on every x country I still find myself saying, oh I can land there, or there...
