I like how up to the 2 minute mark the fractal seems to get more surreal and alien the deeper you get. Certainly I did not expect such complexity at lower levels from the great self-similarity of the beggining.

Five years late, but the reason it becomes more complex is simply because the video creator changed the fractal at that point to continue rendering smaller iterations as a Menger Sponge instead. That's why, for a period, there are squares among broken and cut-off triangular 'terrain', which then becomes simply squares as we leave the triangle iterations behind. Had he not done this, the self-similarly with triangles would have continued forever.

God dammit... As a child I used to play Nintendo 64 games... the graphics, the sounds the music... It all freaked me the fuck out. I could barely ever sleep. I ditch the 64, and went years without it, so I wouldn't have to fear it any longer. Then this music plays... Now I keep glancing over my back, I'ms shivering. I feel like I'm in a nightmare... This video could be the reason for me to finally start with fractals and fractal animation. I was always interested in animation, but never had the muse, time and computing power, but this clip really gave me goose bumps, when it went down to the "molecular" base, because this wasn't just Sierpinsky's dream, but mine. Paul van Nugteren it did. It's an hybrid fractal, meaning it changes formula at a certain point. He placed Menger sponges inside the Serpinski pyramids.

ProperGanderSaul fractal is a term for computer generated. It's actually a lot more than that but I can't really explain it. I suggest you look it up.
