Amen. Covering Joni takes sand for sure. This song has 1.2 million views... Not nearly enough in my opinion. This is what KZfaq is still good for. Turn on the radio and hear the same pop songs over and over again until you lose all interest. It warms my heart there are voices with passion like this out in the world. This is enough to replace the faith you're missing. You hear her voice and it makes you feel. Haunting my heart waves in the best sort of way.

I’ve heard so many renditions of River that can’t quite capture its melancholy and haunting melody. Honestly, this is one of best covers of this incredibly difficult song I’ve heard yet! You nailed it and yet still made it your own! Just beautiful! I hope Joni Mitchell hears it…you would make her proud!

While I can't disagree with your comment (Sierra did a stunning cover), I'd like to point out a few things. One, Joni was in her 20's when she wrote and released this song. Two, even Joni interprets her own songs differently than when she was young. It seems to me that she penned and performed many songs that she would grow into, make more space for. A great example is the difference in how "Both Sides Now" was performed in her young years and how she performed it decades later: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qrGBhs95krKwhIU.html. The living of life deepens everything for each of us. Joni has been my favorite artist, bar none, for 50 years now. While I have always loved her music, her art, I have a much deeper understanding of it all now that I've lived more life.

I am so sorry to hear that you are suffering from severe anxiety attcks. I never experienced one but im sure it must be very bad !! try to relax and cut down whatever is that making you feel so anxious !!

Sophie... It's hard... but there is a way out of it... Therapy and medication help in crisis moments, but re-significate life is the best way... Meditation helped me to find peace with my anxious thoughts instead of keeping the battle to get rid of them. If you want to try, start it slow, with short exercises on focus on your breath, let the thoughts come and go, but use the breath as an anchor to reality. Breathing is a way to get out of the anxiety attack as well - by closing your eyes and isolating yourself from the rush of feelings, just breathing in through the nose, and out through the mouth, slowly and trying to feel all the movement of the air get in and slowly getting out. I hope you can be ok soon.

Lifelong fan of Joni here (I am over 70 now) and I don't get to hear much in the way of covers of her music, especially from 'Blue' which was her standout confessional album. I have listened to your cover version of 'River' several times now and at first I thought this is not Joni. You sing in a lower register but you really brought a lovely sensitive rendition to this party. I think that Joni would be delighted to hear your version, which I found both musically accomplished and very respectful of Joni. Thank you for reminding me of how great Joni's work was back then. Beautiful cover of this incredible song. Usually covers of Joni's songs just make me wonder, "Why bother?" and I go listen to her, but I listened to this all the through. It is as sublime as the original. Your voice is perfect and you add just enough interpretive variation to make it your own.

You know Joni is like Bob Dylan, they only wrote music about themselves and their personal experiences. Imagine how the man that Joni was lamenting about feels every time he hears that song … we all make mistakes in life … I’m sure the day he broke-up with Joni will go down as one of his worst mistakes. Can you even imagine what it would be like to have the love and attention of another human being of a quality like sweet Joni Mitchel … He was so fortunate to have had the time he did … live long Sweet Woman, you have inspired me for many years and every time I hear you sing Joni’s work it’s like a time warp and I’m 20 years old once more. I thank you again.

It is rare to hear someone who can do justice to Joni Mitchell song and this particular song is has such depth of emotion that many would be too scared to try. I am in utter awe of your talent Sierra, your voice would make the angels stop and listen. Quite extraordinary!
