GM'd my first session last week and I loved it, the system is easy to run and lightweight like it says on the tin, but plenty of structure to allow for fair and accurate roleplay. I felt like it was my own system to use in creating my stories and I didn't feel stressed about any rules or being a burden on the flow of the game. Regarding player feel.... yikes I've never seen a group want to play nothing but flawed characters. I had all shadowed players, who all struggled to understand what that means in the system. They didn't even give a look to the illuminated callings, and that made my games feel more like a moshpit of VtM and other WoD games without the overcomplicated bloat that follows those great games. My players really enjoyed creating a monster and building a manifestation list that went with classic monster tropes. I felt like this game shines when you have a diverse group of callings. Setting is of course up to you but I gotta say, R.E Davis creates a fantastical urban fantasy world, and his suggestions at the back of the book allows you to drop in and out different things that you like and don't like. Secret Agency's that harbor massive creatures from your darkest nightmares, Online cults worshipping a meme demon, the list is endless for a creative GM. Overall I feel like this would be an excellent opportunity for Osprey games to continue with. It's fun, and provides a great system that's quick and easy to learn, I'm looking forward to seeing what else is gonna be released for this game

Wonderful Review. I admit, I am really enjoying Osprey Game's choice of book size. Makes it easier to take on the go and read. I hope they keep on rolling these games out! I also would love to see them make a campaign book for Sigil and Shadow... like they did for Jackals. That would be great.

I just love Osprey's layout and booksize. If i ever were to make an rpg, I would have followed in the steps of this aforementioned style.

I bought this after watching your review (again). I like it but I would like Osprey to support their lines more with scenarios, character sheets and GM screens

I've been getting into Osprey games and although I haven't played any of them yet, I have really enjoyed reading Those Dark Places and Romance of the Perilous Lands. I'm interested in Gran Meccanismo and Crescendo of Violence coming out in the next 2-3 months, so I'm hoping to see you review them before I make the purchases

This game system should pay credit to Unknown Armies. 😉

I have been running this for a while (never played it before since it's pretty much impossible to find anyone that runs this online) and to be honest, while it's nothing new or revolutionary, it just has everything you need to run a urban horror/fantasy game, I got burned out with WoD and CoD, nice setting but the rules and lore are way too convulted so if you want to just run something similar, you are far better with Sigil and Shadow instead of any of the WoD stuff. I really dislike Osprey way of publishing games, they are basically cashgrabs, quality ones true but still cashgrabs, so far they've only been about printing one off, standalone games with no planned support or expansion, I hope it will change because they clearly have talent.

Been feeling the same way about WoD and CofD. They're such clunky rulesets, but it's difficult to find urban horror\fantasy games that are similar (letting you play mortals or monsters and not forcing you to play very specific types of games), so I've been trying to find as much info on this game as I can.

@@The13thGhostBunny Urban shadows is another game where you can play monsters similar to WoD, the system is a pbta so if you are into it, that might be a good alternative. Another good system is Kult but beware, it is a lot "heavier" in thematics and presentation compared to WoD, it doesn't pull any punches...

@@paulll47 I've played Kult. Althought I enjoyed the setting for the most part, the system didn't really click for me or my players. Been trying to find something that's a little more structured, but not super crunchy or convoluted, ever since. lol. Chronicles of Darkness was okay for a time, but it's so clunky.

@@The13thGhostBunny I get you, I never could stand pbta too, there aren't too many horror systems that aren't clunky unfortunately, you could try your hand at Fate but that will take some time to get used to.

Jumping on this Comment late, I love WoD but man, other Supernatural games just give me more of what I want out of it.
