835g vs. 470g. The weight difference is huge. One is better for local and landscape use, and the other is better for travel and street.

In summary, except for size and cost the Art lens is superior. Got it. I would take issue however, with your comment that the weight difference is inconsequential. The Art lens is 370gm heavier than the Contemporary. Not quite double, but close enough. Also, the price difference is $300, not $200.I get that you love your Art lens and have had it for a long time. I understand, but you are a (relatively) young professional photographer. Most of us are not. I can honestly say, that despite everything else, if someone gave me a 24-70mm Art, it would go in the closet with my Minolta glass. The right tool for the circumstance.

Well put. I think the Stefan felt in love with the overall quality of the Art lens which is understandable, and the weight factor was secondary for him. I do agree that if you are going to be carrying a lens for a few hours that the overall quality will come last.

I went for the 28-70 in the, size matters and it’s a great size for travel, bringing a lighter lens means I am more likely to pick up my camera. And to be honest I get some great shots with it.

Switched to FF recently and the 24-70 Art was one of the reasons to switch. Was a bit worried about the size after coming from M43. I just took a short trip to NYC and has no issues, it feels just fine carrying it around all day. Glad I purchased it.

@Tsyras

@@spenson89 Zero regrets ... since I am an amateur and make literally zero money from this hobby, my strategy has been to buy Sigma zooms and Sony primes. Right now I have the Sigma 24-70 and 60-600. I also have the Sony 35 F1.4 and the 50 F1.4. Sigma has announced a 70-200 F2.8 that’s going to come out next month, and my plan is to pick that up. The only other lenses I may be interested in the future, is the 14-28 from Sigma and potentially an 85 F1.4 II if Sony ever updates it the original. The larger megapixel sensor and the smaller amount of noise per iso used has been great. I just picked up a star tracker and went out last night and took my first picture of Andromeda with the 60-600 and it is absolutely beautiful, even with zero practice of doing that on my part.

In the lens comparison, there was a significant difference in the shutter speed (1/5, or 0.2 sec for the C, and 0.8 sec for the Art). I'd like to see an apples-to-apples comparison.

I'd love to see a comparison between the 24-70 2.8 Art on a FF body and the 18-35 1.8 Art on a good APS-C one. I recently got the 18-35 1.8 for my 7d2 and while I'm absolutely blown away by its performance so far, I'd love to upgrade to full-frame mirrorless next year.

5:50 contemporary is MUCH sharper than the Art on the edges. look at the wall outside the frame, an the edges of the circle. I know the Art is a better lens overall, but this whole review just felt 100% biased without explaining some things such as the focus accuracy, which had zero scientific tests or examples that could help conclude it. also i firmly believe 24mm is a huge difference from 28mm. most other youtubers say so as well

totally agree with you ! this review did not feel legit at all with clear bias. even when reviewing the bokeh, he mentioned that the art was a bit warmer when it was clearly more green/blue. I currently have the 24-70mm and was considering changing to the 28-70mm tho i guess the best way to see if its for me is to get one and try it out !!

Kind of lost credibility to me when he called the weight almost the same and 24 and 28 almost the same. Also try carrying them around your neck for 12hrs and then try to say that they weigh about the same. The Art is 55% heavier...

Dude, weight difference is actually one of the biggest factors. 470 vs 830g is *massive*. I am a huge fan for the sexy 24-70 but having to carry this around all day... I dunno. By comparison, the price difference is rather moderate by comparison. Oh, also the 28-70 is NOT fully weather-sealed.

I've got the Sigma 28-70 C and have been a bit underwhelmed. I shot some test charts today and compared it to the 16-28 C along with the Sigma 24 1.4 and it wasn't even close. You confirmed what I suspected - the ART lenses have better color and contrast. Thx!

I’ve had the 28-70 for 2 years now and feel the same. It’s also a bit too blurry at 70mm wide open. I’ll probably try selling it and getting the 24-70 instead.

Om Namaste. such a difference in image quality between 24-70 and 28-70 may be due to the fact that SIGMA has three versions of lenses: ART, SPORT, CONTEMPORARY. The CONTEMPORARY version is created for amateurs. Therefore, there may be such differences in picture quality. Thank you

I might switch to a 28-70 because I kid you not I don't know what it's about my 24 to 70 whenever I have it in my camera bag and I go through TSA my bag always gets flagged and I know what's the reason it's that lens they always think I'm smuggling something which again if anyone knows what camera lenses are kind of hard to with all the mechanical contraptions are inside but they always flag my bag and they check my lens so that's an annoying process so hopefully if I get a different lens that just works as great that might make my situation better or could make it worse😅

Ideally but shutterspeed has no impact on sharpness when you're using a tripod. If we are dealing with extremely long shutter speeds, than even a truck passing could effect it from tiny vibrations but this is not the case here. Lenses with the same aperture are not always perfectly equal and some will let more or less light in, changing the exposure a bit. What I'm saying is this test is 100% accurate and fair and would not be flawed by shutter speed. Hope that helps.

is it really that big difference in contrast? Or maybe there was a different light etc? it is rother shocking difference. Otherwise for 4K video, there is no practical image quality difference. And small size is tempting

Slightly different placements because of focal length and yes light would be the exact same. They are on a tripod so shutter speed isint a factor.

Feels like a skewed review. Your test chart comparison makes no sense. The 28-70 looks very washed out compared to the 24-70...BUT yet, your sample photos, including the side by side at 3:48, contrast wise, they look identical. Further in the samples, you even state, "You may be hard pressed to find the differences."
@mariusuldukis1566
@mariusuldukis1566 5 ай бұрын
yeah, he did different shutter speed for contrast test. 1/40 is significantly faster shutter speed compared to 1/13 and yet exposure levels are almost the same. He must have messed with lighting in his room which led to lower contrast image, maybe light bounced off of something or something like that. Or it could be that his light source got into lens at a specific angle and then reflected inside the lens which led to higher exposure levels and then he stopped it down a little to make it comparable. Whatever the case the test wasn't done properly. It is possible to check sharpness this way, but contrast is just plain wrong. First red flag should've been for him is different exposure levels. As it is right now it's just not comparable. Seeing stuff like that half assed sort of taints the reputation of a reviewer for me. I've seen reviews of 28-70 comaring it to tamron 28-75 and while sigma is softer they have similar contrast, I refuse to believe that there's that big of a difference between [sigma 28-70, tamron 28-75 mk1, mk2] vs [sigma 24-70] in contrast. Hell I even had tamron 28-75 2.8 mk 1 and sigma 28-70 and they had simmilar contrast... And This guy says that 28-70 is washed out compared to 24-70??
