Thanks to my friends at Sigma, I got to #review the Sigma 60-600mm f/4.5-f/6.3 Sport #lens. This will allow sports and wildlife photographers to shoot with massive focal length and sharpness at a fraction of the cost. Check it out as I demo this lens live at Fenway Park. This is a great addition to your #photography kit!

I have been tempted but so much of my work is late afternoon and night...I have a canon 500mm f4 but wow, the zoom range on this would totally lighten the carry load a little....I shoot a ton of basketball and I was leaning to the 120-300 sport....2.8...I worry its to tight though around the basket...I normally have a 70-200, 24-70 with me....as well as a 16-53 or a fish on a remote...decisions decisions.,..

Toss that on a D500 and get a 90-900! Ha, that's nutty to think about!

I didn't try it. I bought it. Going on SOuth Africa safari next year, so preparing and rehursing. Took it to Sports games (Korfballl, Handball, Waterpolo, SOccer) and took it out for wildlife strawls. Wow. Wow. Did I say Wow? We have mostly Cnon brand lenses, including the great 70-300 USM but this lens smashess it all. Great sharpness in all categories. I'm shooting from a cropped sensor (Canon 77D 24 MP 45 AF points) and sharpness, color saturation, bokeh, OS stability and handheld shapr shoorting: it's all there. And the OS is a big help when shooting in an Owl specified zoo. I do not consider weight a disadvantage, for it will need to change the laws of physics. And that cannot be held against a lens. Some disadvantages? The fact Sigma lensen work the other way around and your camera shout be strong supporting higher ISO values. I fo: the lens truly support the 24MP sensor. And I'm one of thos guys who think that 24 MP's is enough. Me walking or the lens will bring met to the subject, not cropping in a 50 MP pic ...

Great video as usual!! I have had my lens for a while now and it has come in real handy for football, lacrosse, baseball, and even golf. Parents love it when you can get a shot of their kid straight on from over the center field fence when batting. Mr. Weiss, thanks again for all the videos, much of your tips and recommendations are appreciated from beginners like myself on a budget. But do let me know if you need a sidekick, LOL

Great video! I grew up going to Fenway with my Dad, so this was nostalgic even though I'm more of a football guy than a baseball guy these days. Thanks for sharing. :) Looks like you got some excellent shots. I've been looking at this lens for Canon (adapted to RF for the R6), but I'm unsure how the autofocus would work out for sports. It seemed to track pretty well when the runner was going around the bases, but my guess is that it's not as quick or accurate as a native RF lens. Unfortunately for me, the big whites are WAY out of my price bracket. Would you recommend this for amateur sports photography? I'm contemplating renting it from lensrentals for a game or two and using their Keeper Test Drive program if I really like it. Tough to make an investment like this without trying the lens first. I've heard that the 150-600 is too sluggish for sports, which is why I was looking at this one, but I don't know if it's suitable for the sports and wildlife shots that I want to do. So many options, but so few in my budget! Someone help, haha.

Thank You ! This was very helpful to decide between Sigma 150-600 C , 150-600 S and this 60-600 S. Returning my 150-600 C & have ordered my 60-600 S. Also one more ask - Did You face any AF issues till now ?

Hey John. That 150-600 is great! I reviewed that earlier this spring. I think this one does have a bit of an edge with focus speed, but if I had to choose I'd go with that 150-600 over this. Loved it. Keep shooting the cicadas. Creepy, but great pics.

As always, great content. Random question! I recently picked up a 300mm 2.8 which I love! I was curious what you shoot at for ISO in night games. Obviously Fenway park is lit up much better than a local high school game, but I was wondering what you typically shoot to capture your shots in the evening. Keep up the great work. On behalf of all aspiring sport photogs, thank you!
@billieweiss7681
@billieweiss7681 3 жыл бұрын
Nice! Typically with a 2.8 lens I'm somewhere between 1600-4000 ISO, depending on how the lighting is. I don't like to push it much higher than that, as I don't like the digital noise that comes in to play as you go higher.

Hi Billie, thanks for the great video...I have the 60-600 and get the same results as you showed. Question is what's the next level up to this lens you'd recommend? I am a Nikon shooter and do real estate photography for a living. For my boys playing sports and sometimes nature or other outdoor events that require the reach, thought this was a good single lens to take out for day time. But I'm open to suggestions for an upgrade 🙂

Billie, always love your videos. I've got this 60-600 lens and have been using it for a few months now. I work for a baseball/softball tournament organization so I've been shooting a lot of baseball. In temperatures ranging from probably 80-100 degrees, do you ever get distortion with your lenses or this lens in particular? I feel as if the heat from the turf is coming off the ground and ruining all of my shots. I can send you an example photo if you would like. Thank you!
@billieweiss7681
@billieweiss7681 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, heat is definitely a factor on turf fields in the summer. It's very tough to work through! The goal there is to just get as close to your subject as possible to minimize the amount of ground distance you have to shoot through. We deal with it for Patriots football all the time.

a have a Canon 77D and the Sigma 17-70mm and the 60-600mm a heavy lens with a noisy auto focus (not so ideal for video) but fairly sharp lens... I have used the lens on the Sony e-mount to, with a sigma MC-11 mount contverter it works but the auto focus is slower not so snappy...

I have this lens and I primarily shoot rugby. This could be the best amateur lens you can get. There is no way I can afford one of those 2.8 500mm that all the pro photographers have. I have also shot some indoor lacrosse and the iso was a challenge. I noticed you were shooting without the lens hood. Is there a reason for that?

how much of a deterrent is the lens' lack of ability to establish focus quickly? baseball seems to be a more predictable series of movements vs something like soccer, which i often shoot. will the lens be able to handle a lot of zoom movement and still be able to capture crisp shots?
@billieweiss7681
@billieweiss7681 3 жыл бұрын
Right, baseball is definitely more predictable and you've got more time to dial in the focus vs. a sport like soccer. To be honest, I think it would struggle a bit with a faster sport like that, particularly in lower light settings. The beauty, though, is in it's range and ability to shoot all the way down the field. So it's a trade off.

How does the Sigma Sport 60-600mm compare to Sigma 150-600mm Contemporary in terms of sharpness only wide open at f6.3 ? Build quality is obviously better on the sport version. I have a Nikon 70-200 2.8 paired with D850 with optional 1.4x teleconverter and want to pair a 150-600mm to a Nikon D7500. Corner sharpness doesn't matter as i shoot wildlife, i will crop anyways mostly. I am used to handholding the Nikon 200-500mm so weight is not a problem but the Nikon has best VR but is very soft with subjects more than 60 feet away. I watched both of your videos and felt sharpness is very close. Thank You
@billieweiss7681
@billieweiss7681 3 жыл бұрын
They were pretty even in terms of sharpness in my opinion actually! I think it just comes down to a question of range and which focal length you would prefer!

Dear Billie and Community. I consider myself as being an 'in-betweener'. I'm more than a novice, have been published yet for sure I'm still an enthusiast. I have been shooting indoor sports with a 1DX, 7D2 and two 1D2N bodies matched with 200mmF2.8, 135mm F2 , 85mm1.8...prime glass and a 1.4 tele. Recently I have been hired on as part of a team of photographers for a Pro-Am soccer league. I have shot soccer before and usually rented a Canon 100-400 lens (II) to companion my own glass. I'm also a recent retiree, 58 years young, so there is not a bottomless pit for financing my camera gear ( I'm frugal with hobby monies). I'm loking for long glass so that I can capture expressions, emotional moments. This new league does play a good portion of their games during the day , although night games are also scheduled. I am fascinated with these third-party lenses that you have demonstrated on your channel - including the 100-400 Tamron, the 150-600 Sport Sigma and this one - the Sigma 60-600 Sport. The Sigma 120-600 F2.8 is a little bit out of my range financially. So, I'm calling out for honest opinions to complement Billie's videos. Thanks all. Paul
@billieweiss7681
@billieweiss7681 3 жыл бұрын
Hey there Paul. Thanks for checking in. Awesome to hear you were recently hire to shoot for a league! My vote would be the 150-600 Sport from Sigma for what you need. It's a bit faster and better performing. And if you've got those other bodies with the 200mm, 135mm etc. you could use those as well for the shorter range action and features. I think the 150-600 is more of an "Action" lens, where as the 60-600 can do it all but not as good. And the 100-400 Tamron is great, but again, would be nice for soccer to have 600mm of focal length. Hope that helps!
