Good Benny! Glad to see the Sigma motor getting worked on. I'm very keen to see the balance shift delete on this 2.6lt. I didn't get round to that on my 2.6lt. As for the rocker cover I painted mine in high temp paint then wrapped a block of wood in sandpaper and rubbed the ridges back so the paint came off giving shiny ridges over colour. It looked great. Just an idea

Most 2.6 Astron Engines went into speedway midgets. Many of them found that the balance shaft delete didn't really hurt performance. Just shortened engine life.

I had a gh sigma with an astron 2.6 with a cam extractors and a weber carb on it . It actually went hard for what they were . The diffs are weak as piss though bloody match sticks they were . I blew up about 10 of them . As soon as you touch the brakes doing a burnout they are on borrowed time . I had a tiger yellow one .

I remember doing a L300 van and a cordia turbo balance shaft delete 20+ years ago. We turned the bearing so it blocks the oil hole also we machined the weights on one shaft. We then had to much oil pressure on both engines.

ahhh, memories. I did pretty much the same thing with my Scorpion back in 1997 when it was rebuilt. didn't delete the balance shafts though. my 4G54 had twin 42mm Webers, decked block, shaved head, mild cam, upped valve springs, Lukey 4-2-1 headers and custom 2" exhaust, sounded bloody awesome. my parents wanted to buy it off me but didn't, so I sold it on, just a little too soon as it turned out. could've gone the EFI and turbo route like others did in the day, but I didn't have a wad of cash to throw at it. owned it for 7 years and the mods were gradual. I still miss it.

With you not doing anything with the cylinder walls and rings...I really recommend that you look into using the STP ceramic oil additive. I've been using it my 04 Trailblazer with the I-6 and noticed pick up in power and fuel economy here in the states. If you don't have it there you should have a similar product. Hope it helps!

If you resurface your stone (by rubbing it against another) every few passes, and keep it uniform, that method is perfectly acceptable. It's one of the ways to clean the deck on mills of burrs and such. Plenty of oil and let the stone do the work, giving perfectly acceptable results (obviously would not work on warped heads and stuff like that, you'd prollly make it worse without having some outside guidance like a flat plate).

balance shaft deletes are never a good idea in my opinion. people went crazy with them in Saab Turbo engines (from the 9-3 etc) and they tended to cause issues. also theyre there for a reason. to delete the balance shaft without issues means having the engine internals balanced more finely. as a driver you might not be able to feel the difference but the engine itself possibly will!
