I bought the Sigma. Very happy with it. I truly recommend. Looks and sounds awesome. Easy to play. A bit wider neck also makes it easier for my michellin sausage fingers.

Nice review! I have the Sigma and it's a great guitar. I tried it up against a few others, including the real deal Gibson J45 and for the extra money it was not worth it. To compare the two fairly you really need to fit both with the same brand of new strings though.

I bought the sg45 and the hummingbird as well. I haven’t been able to put the 45 down since. It’s the only one I’m playing and that’s a problem as I have over 20 guitars but it’s just so much fun to play and the sound is amazing. I have Gibson’s , Taylor’s, Eastman etc but this is the best bang for the buck out there bar none in my opinion! Great job on the vid guys!

That Sigma sounds remarkably good. Coming through on KZfaq, it's almost like the Gibson would be better at sitting back in a mix, but the Sigma actually comes across clearer, like it would fit a more prominent role in a song. Cracking

I’m. Now watching these guys demos again and repeating their collection of demos because they are so enjoyable together and the contrast really suits accoustic demonstrations, obviously i can’t be alone in this process, funny thing every time I used to see something i might like, Andertons were always sold out ? Guess that verifies why i keep returning.. can we have a re vist from the Mick & Pete. Asap, Captn over to you ?

Video on best body shape for playing styles maybe? I've had the same guitar for years and looking to get a new one, however the one I've had in my mind for months probably won't suit my playing style (according to a friend) so my choice is now up in the air. So maybe a video comparing a few different body shapes and concluding which style suits which body shape best? Love the videos btw spend hours watching them.

I bought a Sigma JM-SG45 a couple of years ago before I saw the AP video on the Golden Era series. I rarely buy guitars but thought it so good I didn't hesitate. I'm a Gibson J45 fan and can't afford one but thought this a very good substitute. It's better than some J45 Standards which I've played but not quite as rich in tone and volume as a good one. The J45 True Vintage is the one to aspire to but get this - Sigma do a Gibson J200 copy which is virtually the same in sound and playability if not in looks and construction. I last saw it at £450 Sterling. I'm tempted to get that one too. The JM-SG45 is actually great for home noodling as you can do without the boominess and volume. Amplified all acoustics sound the same anyway.

I think it would be interesting to compare all the copies such as the Sigma and the Epiphone (and perhaps any other worthwhile copies that may be worth considering) to each other as well as to the Gibson originals.

Sloppywhopper They really do. I love all the Andertons pairings but Mick and Pete are the best imo and I think the fact that they clearly have such a blast together is a big part of that.

Just played one of these (the Chinese copy). What an awesome, amazing instrument. It is so close to the Gibson it is breathtaking. The only limitation is the pickup. We plugged it in and it sounds like crap. SO the pickup is getting replaced. Bought the guitar on sale for 360ish and a great pickup for 240. 600 all in for a guitar, that when the work is done will rival the Gibson. The guitar also needed extensive setup work. New bone saddle and nut plus rosewood pegs plus mandatory action adjustment. Virtually impossible to beat for the money. Highly highly highly..whoops my head hit the sky, recommended.

I have the cheaper version of this Sigma, the jm-sge which has lost a few of the higher end features of this one but it still sounds and plays great. It was only £275 too.

I have the JM-SG 45 and love it. What is needed is a review of the Vintage 300 MH. I just got one of these second hand and it knocks the spots off anything. You can get them for 170 quid new.

I bought the Sigma a couple of weeks ago after spending some time pondering whether or not to. I'm glad I did get it now. I think it has the best tone of any laminate back and sides guitar I've ever tried. It compares very well to my Gibsons, a J15, and a Hummingbird and to an Eastman E20ss. Of course the Gibsons and the Eastman have more "grown up, mature tones" but this Sigma comes very close. It doesn't have that Gibson growl or thump but it does have its own very pleasing character. I would describe the Gibsons having a male voice and the Sigma a teenagers voice. The character is there but not the maturity. It is a very nice well balanced well made guitar and with a good setup plays like butta! Of course I bought it from Andertons where I have always had good service. I would highly recommend this guitar if you are looking for a passable J45 lookalike.

I've seen some 60s reissue Gibson acoustics over the last few years with adjustable saddles, not to mention original vintage guitars with them - maybe you could do a video looking into whether they really are 'tone killers'. And compare them to fixed bridge models. Maybe a bit niche! But it'd be interesting to get the opinion of people who play a lot of acoustic guitars.

Just walked in to VintageGitar in Norway (it's right next street to my kids daycare), I had a very early day (at least for me), was a bit tired and had no interest in being productive the two hours before having to pick up the kids. I ended up playing this Sigma J-45 in the store for about an hour++. Was trying a Guild in the same price class (well maybe 30% cheaper tbh), but I ended up just playing the J-45 a lot more. Now it's home by me :-)

There are some comparisons where you think "the difference is so small I wonder why would I pay extra" but this isn't one of them. Gibson definitely has that special Gibson sound while the Sigma sounds more like a regular guitar but a good one! I will definitely try it out in a shop and I wonder how it compares to 000m-15. But if I had the $$$ Gibson would be worth it.

Could you please do a video comparing the Martin DRS2 vs D-18 (or something comparable)?! The setup you guys run is killer. There are others who try but I don't think their room/setup is comparable and it makes it hard to trust what you hear over the web! Would love to see an affordable martin with composite materials against the standard series! Thanks!

The Sigma on their site is the '+' version with the Adirondack spruce top which would probably give the guitar the extra headroom while playing hard and bass to bring it very close to the real thing.

That is what they should have done on these 2 to compare. I’m sure the sigma came with junk strings, or at least most inexpensive imports usually do.

What kind of nut and saddle material does the sigma use? I've found any time I've changed up those to TUSQ on cheaper guitars they tend to sound much more high-end. My Gibson J45 came with those standard (2017 model) but it would be really interesting to hear an A/B if the sigma had the same. Then I reckon you'd get a much fairer idea of the actual differences of the materials and construction of the guitar itself

I have a 1963 J-45 - my Dad's old guitar - in fact I learned to play on it - so I know what to listen for even through yt & my laptop's speakers. Though Gibson doesn't use the same materials as they did in 1963, the sound is very familiar. The J-45 (so called because it sold at $45 when it was released) was really a 'parlour' instrument; it has a sweet voice & isn't meant to be a performance guitar - more for composing or just playing quietly. I'm kinda biased toward the Gibson, but I actually like the Sigma sound too - it sounds bigger and more distant (I'm assuming the strings are the same) but I'd be happy to own one of those too :)

you should do the golden era sj200or j200 vs the original gibson j200 or sj200 ( the sigma ones have 3 models but the more expensive one is most similar to the original as one would expect)

Waiting for the comparison between the top of the line Sigmas like the SDR-28H or the SOMR-28H and the Martin they are inspired on, HD28 and OM-28! Can be a better comparison as the Sigmas have solid back and sides.

I have the JM SG-45, bought from Anderson’s last year. I also have a Gibson J15. I enjoy the Sigma more. I like the wide fingerboard of the Sigma and I’d say the tone is direct, the J15 is more intimate. As noted, there is a ‘headroom’ on the Sigma but as I only fingerpick I haven’t found this a problem. I can play with plastic fingerpicks and a plastic thumb pick and haven’t noticed any loss of volume or tone. I’m impressed Sigma can fit this guitar with a bone saddle and nut, and a proper pick guard, while Gibson (at least when I bought mine five years ago) are shamefully using the thick jelly pickguard and a Tusq saddle and nut! I was thinking of going for the all solid version of this Sigma but didn’t quite have the funds. All in all, the JM SG-45 is a very good guitar. I would definitely buy another Sigma. Gibson is another story.

I own both of these, I actually prefer the playability of the sigma, but overall the Gibson is better, but not much in it, would love to see a comparison with the Gibson and the sigma sjm sg45 solid, as I think this would be a proper battle

The Capt. hould order aa bunch of Maton guitars, they have one of the best solution for live enviroment imo (and also in Tommy Emanuel's opinion, maybe his is more interesting than mine), and also, the ones that I played were built like tanks. I think it would be the guitar I would choose if I had to tour with an acoustic

Sigma's are bloody great value! Had mine for a few years and it plays and sounds better than any Taylor or Gibson I've played (in my budget of £600ish) and i tried a lot of them It cost me £349

Not sure how I ended up here in the year 2022 but here we are! The Sigma sounds great as a standalone acoustic, but when you put it in reference to the guitar it is inspired by, the Gibson is much fuller and more rounded sound that is typical of American-made, high end guitars. Factor in the durability, craftsmanship and appreciation of the asset, the Gibson wins every time. The Sigma sounds like a fantastic option for the price and would work great in a pinch or for a beginner guitarist, but if you're already interested/in-marked for a J-45, it seems worth saving up to get the real thing imo.

Gibson will definitely be less durable with that terrifyingly weak headstock and solid woods.
