4 aspect and junction signals require, in the words of my mate Brian, wires with blobs on!! And therefore fall outside the scope of this episode. Next time.......

UK is always common Cathode for LED wiring, I think we're the exception though. I thought that this was a great video and daisy chaining your signals like this is genius. But the "normal" position should be green

I would say for a safe wiring guide is to *always* make the supply wire + common on all switches not the - wire that goes back to the Power Supply! This will ensure safe practice even with high voltage such as 240VAC! Even though the voltage may range from 12VDC to 36VAC, safety first!

Start off simply with a two aspect to get your head in gear. You'll know when you've "got it". Then go for 3 aspects 👍👍

You can assemble WS2811S SOP8 and arduino in just three wires on such microcircuits can be controlled by hundreds of traffic lights and organize logic. You can connect other things to the place of light diodes.

Easy to automate by replacing the DPDT switches with DPDT latching relays, and use reed switches next to the signals.

When you drew the diagram and you showed the red and green tied together marked negative, what did those 2 wires conect to? Did they not go to the block the other wires went to? Thanks a lot!

A simple automation on my set up is use a light sensor module. Put light sensor ahead of the lamp between rails, so that they are red, change green as train passes, then back to red. Then just wire in a lock out for another track at points.

Thanks so much for taking the time to create this excellent tutorial. Most helpful I've seen I'm just a little confused over one aspect: your wonderfully informative diagram has 3 signals, but ends up with 4 DPDT switches, but your demo model has 4 signals with 4 DPDT switches. I'm just not quite getting how that last switch / light combo works. I'm going to be in way over my head for the junction signals!
@Wallsrail
@Wallsrail 2 жыл бұрын
Termials on the last switch are left free, for the theoretical next signal/switch in the sequence. Strictly speaking, not necessary, but thought I'd keep them all the same. Thanks

Thanks for the video of the wiring two colour signals. Mty question is "what soldering iron and solder do you use? I have a great problem getting irons to work properly.
@Wallsrail
@Wallsrail Жыл бұрын
Try to avoid the cheap irons. Antex are very good and affordable! The CS18 is ideal for electronics. The XS25 is a good all round iron for light work, like fold up etches. Most important is the solder you use!! 60/40 tin/lead

@Wallsrail
@Wallsrail 6 ай бұрын
Correct. I didn't put it in as that's something that needs to be addressed by your own system. Was trying to make it more generic (even though I didn't say so). Depending on which system you use? Whether that's 12v DC LED's or grain of wheat bulbs. then there are LED's with built in resistors. Therefore felt it would over complicate what I was trying to convey Thanks

THE LACK OF COMPREHENSION OF SIGNALLING !!! NO Commercial manufacturer makes ANY electrical (or mechanical) signal control system that actually copies real life British Railway practice. Indeed even the signals commercially available are only a small limited selection of the most common types !!! For the simple reason British signalling whether Semaphore or Colour light is a GEOGRAPHICAL signalling method. So any pointwork/junctions etc, have to have signals to suit that geographical track layout !!! Hence the wiring of such signals has to interface with other signals & points if it is to function realistically. And without "Track circuits" or the Mechanical alternative it's also impossible to get mainline signalling to work realistically even along plain line !!! Something few British modellers today seem to understand. So first you actually have to research all the complex rules covering the complexities of British Signalling. And probably its History as well, as many rules have changed down the decades. Then you need to familiarise yourself with the subtleties of DC wiring. And it can be done with nothing more complex than 12v DC Relays, & a few resistors and diodes. COLOUR LIGHT SIGNALS These are normally at GREEN until a train passes each signal & trips it to red AUTOMATICALLY via track circuits !!! The signal will also change automatically to Yellow once a train has FULLY passed the next signal ahead. Because colour light signals on plain line are "Automatic". Junction signals are "Controlled" (so remain at red after a train passes, & require the signalman to release them when setting up the route for the next train). There are also "SEMI-AUTOMATIC signals, usually only found protecting pointwork to a siding or junction that's rarely used. In this case the signal is normally in "Automatic mode" until the signalman switches it to "controlled" mode before the approach of a train that will need to access the siding/or secondary route. Junction signals with "Feathers" present a whole new mine field as the signals have to be "interlocked" with whatever pointwork relates to the signal options. It then gets more complicated when "subsiduaries" such as "Calling on" signals allowing a train to pass the main signal at Red are added. Shunting signals are of course another minor issue as they are NOT allowed to be facing the direction of travel on a "Running line" because Loaded Passenger trains are strictly forbidden from accepting ANY shunting signal. Hence most crossovers on running lines have to be in the "Trailing" direction, not "Facing " direction, so the shunting signals can only be seen when you are awaiting to REVERSE over a crossover !!!!

Translated with Google: Hello Wallsrail, I posted a comment for you several months ago, but apparently it disappeared and you didn't see it. I really liked the way you presented this video. Today I am writing to thank you because your video inspired me to in turn create one with bistable relay boards. It will be posted on my channel from Friday, July 14 at 00:00. It is called: "Ready for the BAL? If YES, then you are on the right track to watch it". I used the word BAL (Bloc Automatique Lumineux in French), which can represent other things at first glance, such as the ball to go dancing, or the city of Basel in Switzerland, etc. All the best. Looking forward to reading from you soon. Cordially. Cordialement. Fernando (France)

@@Wallsrail Hello Wallsrail, Thanks for your response. It's very nice of you to want to watch my latest video when it comes out, and I wanted to tell you that it was mainly thanks to your diagram with the bipolar switches that the inspiration came to me to make this video. I hope people who watch it enjoy it. Otherwise, for information, I do all these animations on a spreadsheet (Excel, not to mention it), frame by frame. There are surely other means and software to do it, but I do with the means at hand. Admittedly, it may take longer, but at least I have the satisfaction of a job well done (at least, I hope so...). Thank you again for the videos you share on your channel and which I also watch. Good luck to you, and looking forward to following you on KZfaq. Sincerely. Fernando (France)
