I have a picture from 1980 of my father, Joe Di Maggio and me at the Stardust hotel in Vegas having dinner. My father was a friend and hired Joe as the spokes person for Mr. Coffee in the 70's, so I had the pleasure of his company on several occasions. I should have had him sign some stuff for me though, but that would have been obnoxious so I abstained. Wasn't my style or my fathers, that's why he enjoyed our company.

That bat is a major piece of American history. It’s so cool that he has a little snapshot of something that brought excitement and joy to so many people’s lives. If that bat manages to stay untouched in a lockbox or display case and preserved properly for another generation or two, his family might be rich by then because of it.

That bat should be in either Cooperstown or Yankee Stadium!

I would contact the Louisville Slugger company for production records as cursive writing in the modern era was reserved for store models. If you had a contract with LS your name and model number appear on the bat in block lettering. On the label where you see the number 125, if that is underlined, it denotes a 'gifting' bat that is not capable of game play due to a flaw, and would normally be autographed for someone.

Except it wouldn't have been sanded, dipped in olive oil and burned if it was a defect from the manufacturer.

@@darklordojeda Yes, the flawed bats go through production to be used as gift bats or promo bats. They just wouldn't be obviously flawed like chunks missing or big knots in the woodgrain.

@@mikeb1149 i see. According to others who claim how cheap Di Maggio was I can’t imagine him putting in the work of a game bat just to give it away to somebody.

And that’s why when you send in sealed bids for an item, never use a round number like $130, always throw a little change on top and make it $131.25 or something so you just barely beat the other guy
