Signia Silk Nx Invisible Hearing Aid Review | Best Invisible Hearing Aids? Dr. Cliff Olson, Audiologist and founder of Applied Hearing Solutions in Anthem AZ reviews the Signia Silk Nx hearing aid.
Website: www.DrCliffAuD...
Clinic Website: www.AppliedHea...
Receiver-In-Canal (RIC) hearing aids are by far the most popular style of hearing aids on the market. However, recent consumer demand has forced hearing aid manufacturers to make their devices smaller and better performing than ever before.
Signia, formerly known as Siemens, recently introduced their Silk Nx line of Invisible Completely-In-Canal (CIC) hearing aids. I find these hearing aids impressive for 3 main reasons.
1. They are ready to wear - They do not require a custom ear mold impression. You instead use different size click sleeves to match your ear canal size. They are comfortable and make the devices nearly undetectable.
2. Wireless connectivity - These devices have the capability to communicate with an Apple or Android Smartphone with the Sigia TouchConrol App without any additional hardware. They even have the ability to connect to the Silk CROS making them the smallest CROS option for individuals with single sided deafness (SSD).
3. Full-Featured Hearing Aids - These are not your cheap sound amplifiers that you find advertised on Facebook and Ebay. They are fully-customizable devices that have all the features of hearing aids significantly larger. They have Ear-to-Ear (e2e) capabilities allowing the devices to communicate with each other, helping you hear better in background noise.
As great as these devices appear to be, there are two things that might be an issue.
1. They aren't custom - custom devices can fit all different sizes and shapes of ear canals. If you have odd shaped or extra large ear canals, these devices may not work for you.
2. They don't have custom venting - The click sleeves don' allow the capability to to control vent size which is critical to the performance of hearing aids with certain types of hearing loss. They only come in open or closed venting options.
Cons aside, these hearing aids are impressive. However, even the best hearing aids on the planet don't matter unless you've had Real Ear Measurement performed on them. Don't know what REMs are? Watch this video: • The Most Important HEA...

I tried these recently. They sound good and have good features. They are not comfortable and hurt my ears after a while. For some people this may be a great solution. I needed custom molded titanium. Even those move around a lot and I feel like I am constantly pushing them back in place. I had Starkey IIC first and the same thing. Sounded good but always adjusting. At some point I will just have to own it and get RIC. In my opinion, they were the most comfortable and sounded the best. The problem was everyone that saw me with them on yelled at me thinking I was deaf. So I went with invisible. It’s a trade off. I can use them for meetings but I don’t wear them all the time. Great video Doc. Thank you.

I am currently wearing Signia Silk Nx 7px. I am pretty satisfied with the quality of sound. They are pretty comfortable, which is a big plus. They have a big big minus: they almost get out of the ears after 10-15 minutes. Even less if I do some outdoor activities. I have to push them back periodically. I am afraid I am going to loose them.

1. What's the "vent" you are talking about? 2. How often do you need to change batteries? 3. Can you shower, bathe & swim with them on? 4. What's the price? 5. In the part of the video you show what your ear looks like with them in, they look like a big black thing inside your ear (kind of freaky..) :( someone wouldn't really need to "look inside your ear" to see them, as you said (which sounds like you meant someone leaning towards your ear with a magnifying glass lol) - it seems like all anyone would need to do is look at you from the side, and that big black thing would be "yikes"-visible.. :( :( Any product you can suggest that it is (actually) invisible?

is it weird that I watch these at night in order to sleep because your voice comforts me in a weird way? lol. In my opinion, hearing aids cost way too much. I'm basically in panic mode right now because the chronic ear infections I've had over the past few months has caused minimal or mild (can't remember) conductive hearing loss, although I don't know if I'll regain my hearing, oh and I have a perforated eardrum so yay me lol! I'm wondering how noticeable a normal one will be because my long hair kind of blocks my ear and I'm just worried that people could mock me because I'm still pretty young. keep on with the videos!

That is a little weird. Chances are that either an invisible hearing aid like the Silk, or a receiver-in-canal (RIC) hearing aid would likely not be noticeable. I'm pretty sure that people don't mock people with hearing aids anymore.

Dr. Cliff. I have these. When you do real ear testing do you do just one pass or multiple passes. My hearing aid specialist did just one adjustment. Multiple until I hit targets. Also for Soft, Avg, and Loud input levels. Performance in noise depends on a variety of factors including REM precision, Speech in Noise scores, and yes, device capabilities.

How "open" are these hearing aids? For example, I have good low frequency hearing, and moderate to moderately severe middle and high frequency hearing. Will these be able to be programmed so that the low frequencies aren't amplified and that the low frequency sounds are audible?
@DrCliffAuD
@DrCliffAuD 5 жыл бұрын
These devices don't provide much of an open fit. Because they are so small, even the vented click sleeves don't prevent insertion loss. You might be able to get away with no gain in the low frequencies if you have normal hearing in the Lows.

Insertion loss is a hearing loss created by placing a hearing aid inside your ear canal before it is turned on. Hearing aids must provide enough amplification to overcome the insertion loss in addition to the hearing loss.

Hi Dr. Cliff. How about their sound quality? I am trying the forth aids now but still disappointed by their high frequency only sound even after adjustments. Added base sound did not make sound of full frequency, but muffle high side only. Do these receivers produce better sound since they seem to have more room? I am watching this KZfaq with wired earphones that give me full sound and has no trouble understanding any video. Hearing aids that I tried so far give me compressed sound to high frequency side only that make me difficult to understand even with enough volume. This is what I am looking for from hearing aids. Am I asking too much?

You want the highest dynamic range possible if you want to hear better in background noise. However, it probably won't matter for you. If you are a CI candidate, you will likely need a remote microphone to provide any help in a noisy environment. When the integrated Roger receivers get activated in the fall of 2019, the Phonak Marvel will likely be your best option using the Roger Pen or Roger Select. Until then, get a mini microphone and Compilot for your current Phonak aids.

And as for masking, we've just been introduced to the concept so I guess a video on why we perform masking would definitely be helpful and I think even certain patients with hearing loss could also benefit from it as they could grasp an understanding of why masking may take place during the consultation. They are just awful. They amplify background noise so much that you can’t hear anything else. In restaurants and conference situations, I have managed by taking the right one out and only using the left one. And I’m not talking just about high noise situations: they amplify AC, fans, refrigerators, road noise in cars, drowning everything else out. I hear better without them if there’s even ambient noise. They seem extraordinarily primitive and cost almost $5000. A huge mistake.

everyone can still see it just fine - they don't have to (take a magnifying glass and) "look inside your ear" as you say. All they need to do is be standing next to you, from either side, and if they look at your face/head, from the side, they can clearly see something is "off".. When you turned your head - even though you did it really fast - you can see a black "something" inside your ear. Imagine if they had all the time in the world to look at you from the side.. Is there any other product that's ACTUALLY invisible?

Hi dr cliff I thinking of getting either the silks or the pure 312 nx and I have low frequency loss which one would be more suitable for me. Between the 2 do they have the same performance..I’m talking top of the line for both..thanks for any info.

If you want low frequency, you don't want a generic fit device like the Silk that uses a click-sleeve. I would recommend going with one of their custom molded models.

I noticed that someone asked about an "invisible" hearing aid that helps with tinnitus issues. The Signia website has a great deal of information on the causes of tinnitus, etc., and states that the Signia hearing aids do help those of us that have tinnitus. Dr. Cliff: Do you have any information as to whether the Signia hearing aid do help those of us who have tinnitus?

what are the pros and cons between BAHA vs the two devices for someone like me, single sided deafness?
@DrCliffAuD
@DrCliffAuD 6 жыл бұрын
Pros of BAHA is no need for anything inside your ears. However, hearing aids allow you to avoid surgery (Except: ADHEAR is no surgery required). A good audiologist should be able to take your specific needs into account to determine your best option.

I was given both option and asked about the adhear one(thanks to your videos, i learnt about that option); it seems she was was not aware of this one but apparently there is something similar in the market. I have an appointment in 3 weeks. She also said its possible I could be a candidate for cochlear which i thought was only available for totally deaf people. I AM FOREVER THANKFUL FOR YOUR VIDEOS. I've learnt so much about hearing loss, which I ve been so ashamed and embarassed but learnt to accept and do somethng about it. Is there anything specific i should ask for?
@DrCliffAuD

Yes, a cochlear implant is a possibility, but it usually depends on insurance coverage. If you have a normal functioning ear, you may not qualify. Most SSD individuals use CROS technology.

Hi Rosemary. This will be different depending on where you go, but each device should be no more than $2,250 unbundled, and that is likely on the high side.

Hello Dr. Cliff, So i've been trying to shop around hearing aids and most of the audiologist I've seen say that they do not like the IIC and CIC hearing aids at all. And reccomend behind the ear ones. How come is that? I would really like to get IIC to keep it invisible. Especially the Signia NX which would be instant "fit" with click sleeves. Would buying Signia Insio 3x/5x/7x better since it would be custom mold? Regards,
@DrCliffAuD
@DrCliffAuD 4 жыл бұрын
BTEs are easier for providers to fit. However, if having an IIC is important to you, then they should fit you with those if your hearing loss permits. The Silk is not as good as the custom molded IICs.

Dr Cliff, I am looking to purchase a pair of 'invisible' hearing aids. I currently have an old pair of ITE hearing aids but get too conscious of people staring at them. How would you rate the Signia Silk Nx against the Phonak Virto B-Titanium in terms of sound quality, cost and how discreet it is? I know that the Silk is much more user friendly but am ultimately looking to hear better only due to my slight to moderate hearing loss. Which one would you recommend me to purchase as a long-term investment? Are there any invisible hearing aids that i should consider? Please help.

Hi Doctor Cliff, your help would be very appreciated around here :) I would like to know, please, what is the best option between the signia pure 312 and the Oticon 1 mini Rite. I've an early presbycusis (I'm 31). I've seen different audiologist to get the best price and the best technician but they all disagree. One says the Oticon got more efficient settings... but technically it has less "settings canals" so i don't get it... They tell me whatever they want to be choosen as my audiologist... I'm lost. Cheers from France

I've tried the signia's pure 312 so far and I didn't like them much because they don't help me enough to understand what i can't hear : feminine voices and voices surrounded by (even just a bit of) noise. I don't know if it comes from the audiologist or from the hearing aids themselves.
@DrCliffAuD
@DrCliffAuD 5 жыл бұрын
Hey Strawberry. Both are good hearing aids if programmed well. Sounds like the Pure 312s weren't programmed to give you enough high-frequency information. That being said, I have no idea what your hearing loss is like so it is hard for me to speculate.
@cicicitron
@cicicitron 5 жыл бұрын
@@DrCliffAuD thank you for your answer. It is highly possible that they weren't well programmed. The audiologist doen't look like she is using proper measurement. Also I've rather smalls ears canals so I use the smallest dome that exists and maybe it impacts the way I percieve high frequencies, I hear every voices with a bit of distortion... I have to see others technicians but it takes some time... it's been already 2 months of looking and searching.

I am a client who has bought three Siemens hearing aids from Fann Azarakhsh Company, a Siemens representative in Iran. Due to the absence of responsibility and lack of assistance to clients after the warranty period in the service, this agency uses low-quality parts and finally declares that it can not be repaired and has to buy a new hearing aid. Please help this client. Thanks in advance, Sirous Faeghi
