I was lucky enough to witness a courting ritual of a pair of bluebirds. As I was admiring a female perched on a branch, her mate popped by to give her a snack! What a joy to see. ❤️

I love hearing the "fee-bee" song of the chickadees, and it's so amazing how they can carry so much building material in such a little beak. One thing that really delights me is hearing the cheerful uplifting song of a cardinal as I step outside. I wish you had included one here. A sure sign of spring here in Michigan is a fat belly robin. It’s fun to see them pull a worm out of the grass. They don’t seem too interested in the bird feeder. My sparrow families are pure pleasure to watch. Recently, a group of starlings have been devouring the suet cake. Always entertaining too. Thanks Leslie for the great video.

Of the many avian signals that spring is here, I anxiously anticipate the arrival of Eastern Phoebe. They're truly an insectivorous bird and I know consistently warmer times must be around the corner if they're here.

The Jays and Chickadees are becoming more vocal now. The Red-winged Blackbirds and Grackles are back. My Crows Harold & Harriet visit for peanuts and peanut butter sandwiches. They come back every Spring. I'm anxious to hear the Woodcock ☺. My Chipmunks 🐿 are back. Great video. The Red-winged Blackbird here in Northeastern Ontario Canada is the first sign of Spring for me. ☺

It's been a little warm here and whenever I go outside now, it sounds almost like a jungle with so many different birds singing! Especially tufted titmice, American goldfinches, cardinals, towhees, and our Carolina wren couple. Also, I love hearing the woodpeckers drumming, and the mourning doves cooing in the distance. But I know spring is official when the bluebirds start working on the nestbox!

This display of birds and bird life put my heart in the most eternally blooming place!

Lovely video with great information! Red-winged blackbirds announced spring a few weeks ago in upstate NY. This weekend I noticed robins, grackles and starlings gathering nesting material. After watching your video, I think the blue jay I watched gather its acorns from hiding might be courting a female. I especially liked seeing your chickadee gather moss and drumming grouse. This year, like most years, exactly on the first day of spring a Bluebird pair showed up and were checking out the Bluebird nestbox... they are the most beautiful birds to me! Then two Starlings scared them away (UR!) But they came back later! =) I hope they decide to raise their babies in our nestbox! Currently, and much of the past winter, a Downy Woodpecker has been staying the night in it... not sure how that's all going to play out, but they usually leave to find another place to nest. The nestbox hole is EXACTLY 1.5 inches (38mm) in diameter so it should keep the Starlings out. Any bigger and these invasive birds will get in and kill the Bluebirds and their babies. A few days before that, we saw our first Robin hopping around the yard... ALWAYS a sure sign of spring! Yesterday, I'm pretty sure I heard a Red Winged Blackbird. Interesting how you put it that the ABSENCE of certain birds mean the coming of spring, too... I hadn't quite thought about it that way, but yes, very true. Sometimes you don't realize you haven't seen a certain bird in awhile as you're seeing all the new-comers and then it kind of hits you. We are still seeing Dark Eyed Juncos, but I expect we won't for long. It's the best and most hopeful time of year for bird watching and raises my spirits in this crazy world we're in.

For me at our house here in Midcoast Maine, the #1 sign of Spring is the return of the Turkey Buzzards.

Here in Pennsylvania, Robin's were always my first sign of spring. However last year was a great growing year and we had an abundance of wild berries and such for the birds, therefore we had Robin's most of the winter. The migration of the Grackles, Red Winged Black Bird, Brown Headed Cowbird was a solid two weeks earlier than last year.

I've been mulching grass all year so I can throw in bird + bee friendly plants. The hummingbirds are already ignoring the feeder and going for the fresh flowers!

I am from eastern Canada. For me, The sound of wild geese is the first signal spring has arrived. This year it was on St-Patrick’s day.

The before sunrise union of morning songs - first of a lone robin, then a few more song birds join in until it reaches a crescendo of trilling of those nearby followed by a rapid decrescendo into silence. Light seems to be the conductor.

True .. So far, here are my signs of spring. This week, I've seen an *American Robin* (Turdus migratorius ) an a *Common Grackle* (Quiscalus quiscula) in my yard in Quebec (southern Canada).

Hi. One thing I really miss about my shop is every spring there was a northern mocking bird that would sit on top of a utility pole and sing his heart out. I'd sit on the front step, have a beer and watch him do his dance. Spreading his wings, do a back flip and sing and seemed to never repeat. I had to close my shop when I was diagnosed with cancer and unable to work. I will always feel blessed that I could experience something's so special. Thanks for listening.

Three warm days this week melted our snow, and brought Geese and Robins together on the first and second day- bobolinks and killdeer on the third! I hope they haven't been fooled, last year April was coooold.

Hi Lesley! Enjoyed your video, you are spot on ! Seeing the redwing blackbirds in early March(first week or two) is a sure sign of spring for me. I also enjoy seeing male goldfinches molting to a sunny yellow over time. Today is the first day of spring! Yay! This is the best time of year to get out and birdwatch. You can sometimes catch certain migrating birds along the way. So much fun. Happy birdwatching everyone!! 💚🐦

We just had a red winged blackbird show up near our feeder yesterday! I’m so excited for spring. It sat on the railing near our feeders and made some calls. It didn’t bother with the feeder though but it came back a few times.

For me, the first hint of spring is when the Mourning Doves start cooing and courting mid-February. I love watching preen each others' feathers. However, I know that spring is in full swing when the Gray Catbird returns in April. This year, it appeared that spring came early. The Robins returned sooner than last year, and my Cardinal is already building his nest (I saw him carrying a tissue in his beak!). Of course, as with every spring, I am looking forward to seeing the migrating warblers! Thank you for the wonderful video; it really put me in a spring mood :-)

Yup, for me it's the red-wing black bird. I heard the first male call 2 weeks ago. I heard peepers Friday night too so Spring has surely arrived.

I have 3 to share (but many more I enjoy!). I always love hearing the loud cackling of Sandhill Cranes as the migrate overhead, the piercing cries of Killdeer and the nasal “peent!” (and twittering sky dance) of American Woodcocks.

I look forward to the return of the ospreys!

I know spring has sprung when I hear the red winged blackbirds!

One of the perks of living in Colorado is that the Juncos and White-crowned sparrows don't all fly North--many of them just head up the mountains. I can usually count on seeing Juncos flitting through pine forests or singing from a bristlecone, and the White-Crowned sparrows love the willows above treeline. I've even seen a horned lark up on the tundra in the summer!

The one major thing I see to know Spring is here is seeing my first Hummingbird!! I have 4 this year, last year I just had two. But seeing that first one arrive tells me Spring is definitely here!! 🐦⚘

Such a beautiful season!!! The red-winged blackbirds are in full swing here in Montreal, followed quickly by common Grackles. The Canada Geese have been flying north as well, and I saw 14 Snow Geese fly over yesterday! Exactly 4 months since I last saw a snow goose. I love seeing all the Robins erupt, as I have only been seeing the one male robin in my usual birding spot. Now there are well over 20! Ring-bills have returned, I even saw a HUGE colony flying over the city around 10PM just over a week ago. I think the Red-breasted Nuthatch pair I saw in mid-late February may have flown elsewhere. I'm very happy to see and hear the Song Sparrows, and while I have seen White-throated sparrows, I have not heard their beautiful call yet this year. I think they nest further North - the suburbs would probably not be great, as there are many cats. The Hairy, Downy and Pileated woodpeckers in the neighbourhood have also been clearly searching for good trees to nest, and drumming. Still some Juncos, and I saw a pair of American Tree Sparrows the other day, no doubt working their way North. And who can forget the Cardinals - singing loud and proud these days no doubt asserting their territory now that the red-wingeds and grackles are here making a ruckus. I even saw my first House Finch of 2022, a bright, beautiful male treating himself to my nyjer and sunflower feeder along with the goldfinches - the males are getting their black caps in! I am so excited to see the warblers come in, I am seeing a lot of the Yellow-rumped warbler nests become visible in the bare trees. I found a ruby-throated hummingbird nest today on my walkabout, it was so cute and very well constructed, still tightly bound to its branch! I hope the hummingbirds will decide to nest nearby again!

Watching the chickadees and now the Wrens moving into the nest houses and the arrival of the Hummers we feed is great. We have really grown to love birds the last few years.Thanks again Lesley!

Love your channel. The American Robins, Red-Winged Blackbirds, American Goldfinches, Cardinals singing and Common Grackles are signs of spring where I live. The Mourning dove with its soft hoo hoo call. Also when the Dark-eyed Juncos are disappearing from my area just like you said. I hear the American Woodcock sometimes.

Nice video. For me a good sign of spring is the return of migratory ducks to the wetlands near my home. About 10 days ago, the first American Widgeons arrived. Today, I saw Green-winged Teals and a Northern Pintail. The peak of the spring migration is yet to come, so there will be more new species to be seen.

We have many sparrows, chickadees, and woodpeckers, and the ever present Steller's Jays. But we will be getting less rain soon, and a little more sun. One thing I know for certain is about Cardinals. They won't be sharing the feeders in abundance as they do In winter! So Spring .. Here in northern Michigan, the nuthatches and cardinals are in full chorus!! Plus the yellow finches are molting to yellow. The robins are just arriving. Yes, we have a good snowstorm coming. The robins always show up just before the last storm.

I've gotten in the habit of taking my bird feeder in at night to keep the neighborhood bears from tearing it apart. I'll get up at dawn and take the feeder out to hang under the eves of my cabin. I stand quietly to hear the chick-a-dees, wrens and nuthatches talk to each other in the forest around me. I can actually hear hundreds of birds, happily singing in the trees. What a great way to start my day.

Beautiful video. When I see red-winged blackbirds, i know spring is approaching. Last week I saw 2 Carolina wrens building a nest in a screech owl box! The box is so large, I don't know how the babies would get out.

Spring has sprung here in CT for about 2 weeks now and it has been warm. Leafs haven't started growing yet, but a few ground flowers have begun to sprout and bloom. Insects have been flying around. First butterfly of the year spotted. Peepers just began calling. Robins have been more active on lawns and trails. A Flicker has been drumming and calling in the same area as always in my neighborhood. Red-winged Blackbirds and Common Grackles have arrived and become loud. Cardinals and Robins have been singing a lot during the early morning hours. Mockingbirds have already begun to sing. Tufted Titmice have begun getting very vocal. White-breasted Nuthatches have been singing. I've been listening to the beautiful song of the Song Sparrow. Red-shouldered Hawks have been making a lot of noise. A few Killdeer have been heard and spotted, with 2 looking like possible mates at a nesting site. Juncos, Golden-crowned Kinglets, and White-throated Sparrows are gone. 3 Wood Ducks spotted and heard together. The real highlights out of all of those that always tell me spring is here are the peepers, insects, Blackbirds, Killdeer, Titmice, Song Sparrows, Mockingbirds, and the sounds of Robins and Cardinals in the early morning. Once the rhododendrons bloom, leafs begin to grow, Great Egrets arrive, Ospreys arrive, and many moths are flying around, then that means summer is getting closer.

I saw a downy woodpecker claiming it’s territory today and it made me so happy!

Awesome vid. Seeing Robin red breast is a sure sign for me. I love the wing tips and tail feathers of blue Jay's as they remind me of stained glass windows.

Here in my part of Australia (Adelaide) where most birds hang around all year, the sure sign that spring has arrived is the swooping magpies. They are very smart, completely fearless, have great memories & will tear off a chunk of your ear the size of a fingernail of you're not careful!

I know spring is here when the bluebirds start checking out the nest box. Our White-throated Sparrows start singing even thought they will soon be flying N. But the song I love the absolute most is that of the Ruby-crowned Kinglet. It just makes me happy 😊. I had never heard it here in Virginia until I went to Colorado in the late spring. What a joyful song!

Robins signal arrival of springtime for me.

I looked out in my backyard the other day and saw over 100 robins, it’s the most sure sign of spring I’ve seen so far.

I always look forward to the first sounds from a broad-tailed hummingbird. That's probably more of a late Spring sign but it usually signals the end of snow season.

Yesterday my son and I had a Gray Jay eating on our deck. I was shocked! First one I've even seen down here in southwest Ohio.

When my barn swallows appear to reclaim their original nest on my front porch, I know spring has arrived!🐦❤️

Spring arrived in Edmonton with three skinny cobra chickens on the melting ice of a pond. Traffic began to back up as people excitedly pointed them out to others at the lights. Geese, dandelions and a yard sale sign are my spring checklist must haves.

My favorite arrival during early spring (Pennsylvania) is by far the Louisiana Waterthrush. Few birds can compare being at a stream, being patrolled by a LOWA that acts like it is well over-caffinated, and flys back and forth above the stream at a fast speed, right past your face if you are standing in its road! Unfortuately its summer range is well south of you.

I've noticed the Chickidees are spending less time at the feeders since the weather warmed up and i hear the hey sweetie call allot lately , spotted my first red winged black bird a few days ago as well in the Sudbury area , i've noticed the Pileated woodpecker hasn't come to the feeders either for the last few weeks , they must be busy working on their nests great video and thanks for uploading 👍

I have three 'signs of spring' that I look/listen for each spring. Like many, the return of the Redwing blackbirds makes me so happy, the next is the wood cock, with its strange metallic 'beeeeep', and lastly, while not a bird, the spring peepers. I just heard them on the 18th of this month, the earliest I've ever heard them. Happy Spring to everyone!!!
