Dr. Laurie Hess talks about the importance of veterinary care in rabbits. While all rabbits should be seen by a vet at least once a year for a wellness exam, Dr. Hess explains some signs to look for which may indicate your rabbit needs veterinary attention.

This is great information. Too many people think that bunnies are easy pets that don't need vet care. Bunnies and hamsters need vet care, too! They are living creatures who need love, attention, proper diet and medical attention. Thank you for this reminder!

My bunny sneezes, poops but not as much, has become very boney and you can see it and feel it yet eats constantly, and when we let her out to run around she lays down most of the time now. We did everything for her that the pet store said to do. She's only a baby in her 4th month of life and we got her when she was 2 months old. I'm calling the vet tomorrow. Been trying to come up with money for the vet.

My rabbit "Hope" I knew everything about her how she layed down I knew what spots in my rooms she hide in I knew everything then one day I had her in my room running around all day with her cage door open in case she needs food or water but when it got around 3:30pm I noticed how she was laying down every where and not in her normal spots so I put her in her cage and I also noticed how she was faceing the back of her litter box like she never does and layed her head in her food bowl and she also was tiIting her head and she could barley walk you could tell she was trying to I cried I knew something was off she wasn't aware of her surroundings and after a few hours after sitting by her cage petting her I picked her up sobbing and I said everything is going to be ok you are ok and I also said I love you please don't go please don't leave me and then she had a ceaser in my arms I brought her to the living room and put her on the carpet she was just laying there and a few minutes after she died I was devastated she was my first rabbit I did everything I could for her I gave her hay, feed her, gave her water, brushed her, change her cage, and litter box I love her ,R.I.P Hope

@@randomanonymous4580 you need to take her to the vet SOON GI stasis can kill your rabbit within 4 hours. Also you should keep a first aid kit that has emergency food just for that. Like the video said its way better (LESS EXPENSIVE) to take them as soon as you see any hints to an underlying illness. Trust me, you both will be way better off catching it sooner rather than later! Also are they outside rabbits? If so rabbits aren't good with high/low outside temperatures so they really should be inside free roam rabbits with outside time when the temp is okay. Good luck

my bunny was not moving one evening. Because we had a few situations in which our bunnys showed signs of illness but moved passed it right the other day, we thought it would be nothing. So the next day he wasn't moving all day. If i had been around, i might have called the vet, but my mother was there and my parents in general don't think a lot of vets. (Don't think it's nessessary.) Well, i held him, checked on him and saw that he had his eyes half closed, i could feel his bones....he was soo thin...) Sadly, the next day we found him. He was half alive but two hours later he died. I hate myself for not doing somehting. He didn't look like he was in pain. (Once my other bunny had a bee sting, shivered a bit and that was it!) I'm so sad, i feel like this wasn't supposed to happen, we could've easily done something, just one phone call. That evening, when i held him, i had the feeling that he was gonna die. But of age. But we had him since 2009, soo....age? And that fast? He was running two days ago like he was 2 years old!

My bunny died in these symptoms. I showed him to the vet and he said that he must be ate something wrong. The vet gave him 3 shots of some medicine and told me to watch him is he drinking is he eating. I didn't sleep that night so I checked him out. I found him breathing deeply. His nose was runny so I tought I need to go to the vet again. I woke up and he didn't even react. Then he started to laying down and... died. I've cried this whole day.

Laboricuamamys2002 my rabbits pee changes colour everyday it depends on what they eat
@imaginaryfriend2340
@imaginaryfriend2340 6 жыл бұрын
It really does depend on what they're eating and how much of what. Hay should be plentiful and always available, yes they eat a lot of it, so get a lot of it. If you're feeding her a lot of carrots, which you shouldn't bc of the high sugar content, maybe 1-2 baby carrots a week as a treat, same w/ all sweet fruits and veg, the beta carotene in the carrots will discolor their urine as well. A variety of veggies are needed as well everyday about a cup or two depending on the weight of the rabbit. I split a head of romaine between the two of my 5 month olds, add in about a 1/4 bunch of cilantro every other day, and trade that off w/ oxalic greens (kale and spinach are the most affordable, and spring mix that i can buy in bulk)and other herbs that i grow myself in pots, basil and dill go over really well, be careful as to what pellets you're feeding too. Howcast has a good series of videos on rabbit care, one specifically pertaining to urine colors, I would recommend a watch.

Rabbits have an orange pigment in their urine called porphyrin. Sometime it can look like blood. Rabbits can have blood in their urine from bladder stones and uterine problems. I would recommend she be checked out by a veterinarian to see what's going on.

I just gave my rabbit new organic pellets yesterday. Last night she seemed to be eating them fine, but today she's hardly touched them. She not eating her grass or drinking water. She's in a corner of her cage sitting and for a brief amount of time, her stomach looked like it was twitching which caused her body to twitch and her head was shaking slightly back and forth. She's still in the corner, but no longer twitching. She did have EC that affected her eye, but the panacur helped it subside. She hasn't been unhealthy in about 6 months. I have another 28 day dose of panacur.. should i give it to her, wait it out or take her to the vet right away???

But apparently, theres enough space for them. Everytime the cage is dirty, i replace another fresh wood chips but i was thinking if i could replace it with hay but my dad wont agree because he belives that hay are only for adults. If this helps, bring her to the vet fast. Our Netherland dwarf died a month ago when we went to wash her because of all the pea and poop stuck to her skin. When we went to wash her hundreds of maggots came crawling out of her and she had been eaten from the insides out and it was to late to do anything, so we had to put her to sleep. Here are the symptoms: 1. Drinking excessive amounts of water 2. Whimpering/ Crying 3. Limping 4. Sitting with her bottom in the air 5. Peeing more than usual 6. Pee and poop stuck to her bottom often I'm not an expert on bunnies but I do know that if your bunny is experiencing anything like this, then you need to get her to a vet ASAP. I send you my prayers!!!

I need help! My rabbit as acting really weird. You see, I usually take him outside so he can run around and get fresh air, but today when I checked on him he was acting weird. When I walked outside I saw him in his cage (we take him outside with his cage) and I thought that was really weird since he's always outside running around and I never see him inside of his cage. When I took him out of his cage and placed him outside he rand back inside of his cage. He didn't seem like his usual self. He had no reaction to me picking him up. And he usually runs to me whenever I come outside with him. He seems on his guard and I put him in my room to see if his expression would change but he's still the same and now he's hiding under my counter. When I look at him he is sitting in a position that he normally doesn't do when he's around me. When I'm with him he usually runs in circles around me and lays down on which he shows his stomach, but now he isn't even responding to me and he's sitting on his stomach so somethings definitely up. I've been searching up videos about rabbits but when I search it in Charlie (my rabbit) doesn't have any of the symptoms that they're saying so if someone knows what's happening please tell me what he may be feeling.

Ive had my rabbit for a little over two weeks. He likes to sleep in but this morning he has been laying down and barely moving around. He trembles and isn't making his usual advances towards me or even watching what goes on around him. he's like in some sort of state. I took his to the vet on friday and need to know of i should go back. I cleaned his cage and he just played back in the corner like i wasn't even there. I'm really worried. If his behaviour doesn't change, we are going back to the vet tomorrow.

It is very rare for a rabbit to develop a urinary tract infection because of pH of their urine doesn't support the growth of most bacteria. There are other reasons for a rabbit to leak urine from the bladder. It is best for your rabbit to see a vet so that a proper diagnosis (and treatment, if needed) can be made.

My rabbit was pooping loose some three months back and took him to the vet and he couldn't find anything unusually as most of the vets here in India doesn't know much about rabbits. I was giving him lots of greens and carrot and later I changed it to hay and small amount of greens. He eats well, active and drinking water and pooping normally. After I changed his diet everything came to normal for a while but now again he is pooping loosely ( thick paste) like in every alternate days. Don't know what to do.

Is it abnormal for a male rabbit who is about a year old and is all alone btw to consume a lot of water? He didn't use to drink as much so I don't want to go to a vet unless it is a must have. I have noticed on his back paw that he is missing a little fur so I can actually see pink where fur should be like right around his nail. I didn't know if that had anything to do with why he was drinking so much. No other issues tho besides he shakes every now and then while laying down but not all the time and he urinates a lot obviously lol.

If your bunny is 3 months or younger I recommend only giving it alfalfa hay, make sure it’s nice and fresh too. I remember when I got my bunny he was 8 weeks old and it took him some time to get use to the new environment so he also didn’t eat much hay either, but now 70% that’s all I see him doing 😂. But of course, if the issue doesn’t get fixed then you should probably visit a vet.

I don't know if she is on heat or if something else is wrong I searched it up and planning on taking her to the vet next week to see if its an infection of sorts ( as i have heard through internet research) I just want to know if anyone has had the same problem before taking her to the vet.

Rabbits commonly get uterine cancer and bladder stones - both of which can cause blood in the urine. All female rabbits should be spayed to prevent uterine cancer or to remove it if it has developed. If you are seeing blood in her urine, she should definitely be seen by a veterinarian as soon as possible.

Anna Hansen I definitely think you should bring her to the vet for a check up as soon as you can. If she is eating and breathing normally, she's likely ok to wait a day or 2. But if she becomes lethargic, doesn't eat, or has difficulty breathing, she should be checked right away. Many vets offer payment plans such as Care Credit that allow you to pay over time, interest free. You can ask the vet about that before you take her. Good luck!
