I find it really lazy how YanDev just went to google translate, typed whatever that character is supposed to represent, and took whatever the translate gave him as a name, without even bothering to check if it's a real name or not, because more than half of these aren't names, they're just words such as "plant" used as names. And I don't understand why, because YanDev has shown that he can actually do it right, the SC are an amazing example of this, let's take Aoi for example, he took what he wanted her to represent, (Ao Ryu - Blue dragon) and then transformed those words that aren't a name at all into a real name/lastname, Aoi Ryugoku. If only he put that much enphasis into the other characters... Also, the nickname thing that was added, is just a shitty excuse to not change the stupid names that were given to some of these characters, and the argument is "People already recognize these names, and it would be difficult for them to memorize others" and i'm like, boi, if they memorized the name, it's because they somehow care about the character, and if they care, they would be able to remember a new name given to them, but even if they didn't, so freaking what? I rather have a real names than some jokes I used to call names, even if people can't remember them.

@@mvmhlr In my opinion, they are, YanDev has said multiple time that he wants Yandere Simulator to be taken like a serious game, welp, if you didn't have names such as "Mai Waifu" or "Oka Ruto" from the start, it would've helped. I know that thinking about the big picture is bad, but imagine Japanese people playing the game in the future and being like "Wtf? That person's name is nurse?". It seems counterproductive. If you have a game set in Japan, at least make the effort of thinking about what Japanese people would think about things like those names.

I think Horuda's name means "Place holder" (Puresu-Place, Horuda-holder) because when she first came out, her student profile said "This is a placeholder character, don't get too attached to her" before Yanderedev changed his mind.

@@user-Beans2017 Taro Yamada is literally the Japanese version of John Doe. Ayano Aishi is fine since Ayano, and Aishi (while kinda rare) are real Japanese name/surname. But even then most of the characters nicknames are stupid asf. I highly doubt anyone would actually call some girl “mAi wAifu uwu” as a nickname. Why can’t the nicknames just be more normal like shortening the name or anything else. It’s like some ridiculous weeb’s version of Japan.

More detail about where I got the names from I got the last name for the Oka rename from a cursed poem called Tomino’s Hell. Tominos male in that poem but whatever Gura is a joke character. The only japanese influence in her name is Gu- (taken from gugu), the last name is me trying to make a japanese name out of western sound effects (yes ik that’s yanderedev behavior but at least I’m not using accents like that smallballs) I made Miyo’s surname Kaito so if you say it the wrong way (like listed here) you’ll end up saying “yokai” which is a japanese demon
