We’re back with our first film of 2023 and it’s a good one if we do say so ourselves!
We’re back out in the forestry blocks of Sutherland, Scotland, in search of Dan’s first Japanese Sika stag.
This is the the second part to our Sika hunt, incorporating more long-form POV shots to give you the full immersive experience of how we hunted hard for 3 days.
Again, we recommend watching on your TV/monitor for best experience! Enjoy!!

Sika are a deer that prove if you can stalk, they are not called ghosts of the forest for no reason. That call is like no other and always makes the hair on my neck stand up, awesome. Congratulations Dan, 1st one as it should be took effort but that's what makes the memories. As you said Owen, it's hard to describe but the film showed it's tough to get onto one and also how difficult the terrain can be. Good job.

No truer word spoken! How these animals thrive in these harsh conditions is unimaginable. Glad you enjoyed the film, with this one we had to do it justice by not cutting it short in the editing. More films to come 😃

The call used was the ‘Sceery Special Elk (Sika) Call’.

Sika deer are deer that constitute the genus Ocellelaphus, there are four extant species of sika deer: the Southeast Asian Sika Deer (Ocellelaphus pseudaxis), the Chinese Sika Deer (Ocellelaphus mandarinus), the Formosan Sika Deer (Ocellelaphus taiouanus), and the Japanese Sika Deer (Ocellelaphus nippon), the japanese sika deer is the only living deer species found in Japan.

that was one nervous young man!I was almost screaming Take the shot I the guide was right you don't get much time on the Sika! Also i am not a fan of Thermals ,Ive shot plenty of Sika without it| Anyway good on the lad|

Absolutely, it’s very underrated. I know everyone loves the Roe stalking, but something about Sika is hard to beat.

That's a disgrace, taking a shot like that is unbelievable unacceptable. Typical pressure on the stalker to get a client a shot

Totally disagree with you. There was no pressure whatsoever from the stalker, just the mutual understanding that Sika are notoriously difficult to stalk and give you very little time/opportunity for a shot. In this instance, we were actually afforded more time for a shot than previous opportunities and took it perfectly. You have to take your chances when they present themselves else you will fail, Sika stags only give you fleeting glimpses in this type of environment/country.
