Tian congratulating Meso for his almost certain win in Tokyo was so heart warming. It’s really nice to see athletes supporting other athletes, especially ones who come from hyper competitive systems.

The thing that happened with Rostami’s first snatch was that the technical coordinator allowed Rostami to change his 1st to 179 AFTER Rivas took 179 for his 2nd and only caught the error once he was called out for it (and the computer automatically said it was a good lift).

I only this week saw Pliesnoi with Torokhtiy, to talk their philosophies in weightlifting technique. He was good at talking. And now I see that he also stands behind his words. 6/6, very strong numbers, beautiful lifts to look at. My favourite with Rivas in this competition. I guess the qatarian is also great to watch. They look like 1. They know what numbers they can do 2. They can do them every time with the same technique 3. They came to do those numbers with that technique. The end of the c&j with the coaches changing the numbers after each other reminded me of that game, like auction, where you can raise the numbers and see if the others match, and when everyone settles, you see who stopped at the limit of what you can do and what the other person can't, forcing the other to raise with a bluff that you're confident to do what you claim. However they can still take it back when they see the 230 didn't succeed, which makes it sort of a silly strategy game. Tian looked pretty awful in this competition, but he delivered still. Based on snatch I didn't expect much, but when they say that the competition is won in clean and jerk, it's true.

Are we just going to ignore Ilya’s phenomenal hair transplant here!? His hair line was aggressively receding as early as 2014, and the top of his head was drastically thinning. Here, it looks a bit thicker and his hairline seems to be fully restored to his younger glory years. Nicely done!
