THE GATHERING OF BRUNEIAN KUNTAU AND SILAT MASTERS
Click on the link below to view pictures :-
www.facebook.co...
----------
TRADITIONAL BRUNEIAN KUNTAU
Kuntau is more popular with the older communtity in Brunei Darussalam. Presented here is one of many kuntau styles found in my country. Particularly this form of Kuntau is practiced by SSBD.
One thing that is common in all Bruneian Kuntau is that they do not kick higher then the hip or the floating ribs (when the opponent is standing up right).
-----------
APPRECIATION
I would like to express foremost my appreciation to Wortjek and family from Poland, Hans flying down from France and those who came from far away to attend the seminar.
To all that assisted me in the demos, Christian Velici, Christian Alfano, Lillo Puccio, Grant Scruggs, Hans Menk, Sixt, Roland, Thomas and Josef Leipold.
My apologies if I miss anyone.
This seminar like my other events aims primarily to raise the curiosity and awareness among people from different nationalities about the martial heritage and culture of Brunei Darussalam in general.

It is an honor and a big compliment to be compared to Manong Inosanto and the DeThouars brothers. But I have a long way to go to even reach a fraction of thier level of knowledge. I have the highest RESPECT for thier endeavour propogating the southeast asian arts. Thank you everyone for the friendship, support and positive feedback :)

The more i know/watched the man, the more i love him. This form of silat/kuntau is very similar to authentic Wing Chun and has influenced my practice of WC. TQ. You are the very few good people.

Keep up the great work Maul. Respect to Brunei martial arts! And don't worry about the 'critics' because the 'experts' still try to tell me that mexican food was invented by Taco Bell and that pizza was invented by Pizza Hut.

If you don't understand the moves here, no problem. Kuntau is brutal. It is the real kung fu that kicks butt for real. You can learn this October 2012 in NYC with Guru Maul. Google for his website n details. Nastier and more direct than MMA. What, what!!!

im american & i love kuntao/kuntaw,silat & kali. from what i understand pinoys are comprised of different groups from the malay/indo peoples so if there is borrowing going on isnt it borrowing from what is already yours from a descendancy & geneological standpioint? if a descendant of the ten datus in the philipines incorporates silat from borneo into his system isnt it his anyway geneologically? im an outsider looking in to this matter could someone give me the clarity i may be lacking?
@MustAfaalik
@MustAfaalik 4 жыл бұрын
@the red baron. I follow what you say about borrowing from the same group of people. Pls. note the word used by Guru "Kuntau" in defining his source is actually a Chinese dialect meaning martial art in Hokkien. And this style is very similar to authentic full bodied Wing Chun. Probably this system was introduced by the early settlers to S. E. Asia and combined with the local fighting arts to suit the environment. Anyway, it is the man who makes the art. And Guru knows the art, shows the way and walks the path of a good man. I hope you find this useful. So thumbs up for your attn.

i know the story is widely publicized but there are some top names endorsing it. as stated on this page illustrisimo,cabales and also pak vic de thoures. he states that one datu actually returned. but even without the datu story pinoys are still borrowing what is culturally theirs anyway. they are descendants of indo/malays right?

@jamiirali1 The Ten Datu story has though published had been proven to be inaccurate & was fictional, current studies of artifacts found in the Phil establishes it as already a culture by itself & part of the madjapahit and shri visayan empires at that time. Coluld there be an inter mingling possibly but trying to establish whose style was original at this point is difficult if not impossible. Though there are similarities each region has made their styles uniquely their own.

@TheZhendos U sir are ignorant person, FMA is heavily influenced by Silat nat the way around, this evidance accour in Dan Inosanto`s Maphilindo. Dan aware that kali/escrima/arnis is not a complete martial arts, thats why he added some silat system into FMA(mostly in the empty hand techniques). while the root of FMA it self based on the malayan martial arts system, and that so called 10 datus is only fiction to fullfill the nationalism pride.

Wtf its original kung fu like in the zhong lian bao line^^ at the moment i have no trainer and maybe I should do silat cause most parts of the kung fu world are so fucked up... Some seconds ago I wrote a comment about the same theme in a knive video of you... I am really so fascinated. The main difference here is that in kung fu there is no ground fighting.
