Breaking complex stained glass shapes for mosaics can be quite difficult at the best of times, however Silberschnitt running pliers make breaking those shapes easier. For links on products and videos please click the button below "Show More"

Thank you Peter. As you stated, these made the popular heart shape so easy to cut & other shapes too. The whole exercise seemed so effortless with these pliers. If l hadn't watched your demo l would never have known about this product.

Thankyou so much Eric, I was using clear glass which made the process easier, I only had them for a short period of time, when using stained glass there is a bit of a learning curve.

Thankyou so much. They are really good if you want to create more complex breaks in the glass. But for straight cuts ordinary running pliers are a lot cheaper. Thanks for commenting and for subscribing. :)

Awesome video! I recently got into stained glass and just finished my third (and most complex) project. I kept running into the issue where the glass would break in a completely different way than my score line. This would happen primarily on curves and narrow areas. Is this a case of my score like being faulty? Or my running pliers being too large for a small area? I’m trying to find another pair (like these) that might be more suitable for small pieces.

Thankyou very much Mike. When it comes to scoring stained glass there are so many variables to it, the type of glass, the temperature, the score etc and then theres just bad luck. Sometimes you have to coach the break of the glass to where you want it to go. If you have a look at my other video on Scoring and Breaking stained glass it will give you more info on my process but that doesn't mean its the only way there are many different ways to achieve the same outcome. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/otp6Y8p8t7bIhaM.html :)

Do they require more hand strength or did you find them easy to cut? I know the Breda nippers are not the same type but looking for running pliers similar in hand strength due to bilateral hand surgeries. Thanks for all your videos. So helpful. Rhonda

Thankyou very much Rhonda. I was using them on clear glass which is quite easy they may be different with stained glass as some stained glass can be difficult to work with, I only had them for a short time but I didn't find them heavy or require much pressure, if you are looking for a good light pair of running pliers then I would look at the blue Leponitt plastic ones. I have those and really love them for straight breaking the Silberscnitt I would consider more for breaking out shapes and they are the higher end of the price bracket. If you are wanting to do shapes you might want to consider a Taurus ring saw, very expensive a little noisy but certainly worth looking into if pressure on your hands is an issue. :)

Rhonda, They don't require much hand strength at all. They are also made of aluminium, so are very light. The Blue lightweight ones are fine for straight cuts, but the Silberschnitt really come into their own for more complex curves. I will be selling some cutting systems designed for those with hand issues shortly, so it might be wise to keep an eye out for them on my website. Hi Peter! I’m contemplating purchasing these. Thanks for the great info! I’m trying to find the right running pliers that will allow me to break small strips of glass. Want to make strips for flower stems. I’m scoring the glass at a little wider than 1/8” but my dragon running pliers with rubber tips aren’t breaking very well. Would these work? Or maybe just the plastic Leponitts? Thanks so much!
@TreasuryRoad
@TreasuryRoad Ай бұрын
Thankyou so much, if I am right 1/8" is just over 3mm which is very narrow even for the plastic Leponitt running pliers which I love. What comes into play is the length that you are trying to break and also the glass itself because some breaks easier than others. I cannot definitively answer that question because there are variables however you would have better luck with the Silberschnitt or the Leponitt Springed Running pliers which are smaller and narrower than most other running pliers. You may not get all good breaks but I would think the majority would be good. Both of these can be purchased from www.merlinmosaica.com Thanks for watching and for your comment. :)

Im looking to make very small squares of glass for glass on glass mosaic. Do you have any suggestions for cutting tic tac sized squares? I would appreciate your advice
@TreasuryRoad
@TreasuryRoad Жыл бұрын
When it comes to being that small I would think it would be extremely difficult to score and break them with any manual operation. However something like a Beetle Bits system may be your friend in this instance, something for you to look into that may work. Thanks for commenting. :)

Would it be more efficient if i score both sides before breaking. My theory is that it gives a cleaner straighter break
@TreasuryRoad
@TreasuryRoad Жыл бұрын
I don't know anyone that does or needs to do that. Certainly I haven't found it at all necessary and I have scored many different brands and types of glass over the years. I'm not saying you cant do it but would it really be necessary? Thanks for commenting. :)

@@TreasuryRoad if the break searches for the crack?. Would it not find the opposite etch a cleaner straighter breaking point? I know it's a little much I don't see many doing it. I just think it would make for clean deep sharp corners lol.. I'll try it and tell you what I think 🧠

Hi Peter, I have just received my Silberschnitt pliers. I am finding it difficult to see the score line on coloured glass to know where to put the point. Do you have any tips? Many thanks
@TreasuryRoad
@TreasuryRoad 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Gwyn, you may not be putting enough pressure on the glass scorer to create the score line because you should see some type of score line. If you are scoring correctly I would suggest putting a black texta mark along the line you want to score and then score along that. Having the glass at room temperature also helps with scoring, breaking and nipping. Hopefully these tips will make it easier. :)

@@TreasuryRoad Thanks Peter. I can see the score line but when I put the pliers on it obscures my vision of the line. I can try the texta as you suggest though. I appreciate your help
