Silence S04 Micro Car Enters Production With Swappable Batteries

Barcelona based electric scooter company Silence has started production of its first four wheeled EV S04, which features dual swappable batteries and is intended for city use due to its small size.
With a length of 2.28 meters, a width of 1.29 meter, and a height of 1.59 meter, the Silence S04 will fit comfortably on just about any urban street in the world, all while carrying two people at a top speed of up to 53 mile per hour in the top spec L7e version.

You hit the nail on the head oliverpolden. If the ICE companies would get there head out of the there asses this is the car they should be making. They could produce 5 of these cars for the price of just one of there tanks.

Silence seem to be doing very well with their scooters in Spain and with the same batteries shared between the S01 and S04 they’re on to a good thing. I hope they gain traction as well as other micro EV manufacturers. It’s these that I think a lot of people would be better off buying and keeping their internal combustion cars for longer journeys or where the haulage capacity is needed, instead of one full size EV.

I am in that category. Will keep my Honda Civic for highway and longer trips. Micro EV for my usual short under 20 minute drives around the city.

Most of my driving is below 40 mph and I drive maybe 150 miles a month. This is a great fit for my San Diego lifestyle. Solar charging would be even better as it very sunny hear about 90% of the days. My SUV loving neighbors aren’t tuned to reducing environmental impacts IMHO.

Only thing that makes sense for city travel .... how are we integrating the charging infrastructure in places like NYC. There needs to be swappable batteries.

Looks great, but all these innovators need to standardise on a single battery swap solution, not all invent their own. Dozens of incompatible swap station networks is crazy, and very expensive to build-out. Is one battery pack 180 lbs/82kg, or 90 lbs/41kg each? Even with wheels, 41kg is very heavy for most people. I certainly couldn't lift it up a few steps into my house

This is nearly perfect, but without rapid charging it is vastly less functional than it could be. It's fine for the majority of journeys, but for longer trips or emergencies it's a problem. I understand that it has not been designed with long trips in mind, but given that it can go at a decent speed, it's a real shame it can't charge in 30-60 mins as this would make it fantastically practical!

Check the "Fully Charged Show" review. I think he said you need both batteries installed to drive.

Bring it to the US I'll buy one, we got nothing but tanks over hear. The auto makers think it won't sell, the only reason they won't build something like this they can't make enough profit.

No. Even the smaller, 30mph version will need a full AM license, not a provisional with CBT.

Micro cars have been a success in Europe for decades. Normally powered by a Kubota diesel engine. These new electric versions will push the sales up considerably.

This car hits all the boxes Carries two people will go 50 miles per hour, cost under 10,000, doesn't look totally stupid and is functional with battery options. Micro for the city drives and a gas for the long trip. Hell everyone I know has two cars, why do both have to be gas.
