Two of my fave Sax guys, together. How cool is this??? Listening to Bob talk about how he doubts himself, while watching Jay look on and shake his head in (apparent) disbelief, but then hearing him (Jay) say that it's great for everyone to see that we ALL feel that way... Yes. This.

I didn’t mean to make you feel bad. That’s perfect. I have two friends who have the same internal dialog as Bob. I didn’t know which one of them to sent this to first. The art world is full of people who were geniuses to the exclusion of all else. Like my two friends, Bob sounds like he’s doing a pretty good job managing his priorities while being at the top professionally. Fun to hear about.

Hi Bob & Jay--Developing improvisors are often overwhelmed with the volume of licks, scales, etc., we could use in a given situation. I'm guessing you would both advise such a student to keep it simple--find a theme and develop it. Maybe the same applies to the mountains of video footage Bob has squirreled away. It feels like that's what works about Bob's VLOG--he makes sense out of the myriad of things that happens around him by playing off of the themes that emerge. Thank you both for all you do for the saxophone community!

Wow JayBob together...what a nice and joyful surprise. After watching this video I have come to the conclusion that we are all in the same beatiful, unique, sometimes frustrating, boat: The boat of Music! We should all enjoy the rest of this great gift and adventure but probably, at the same time, are too busy with daily routines. We should follow as per Bob suggestion: focus on the things that can be done. May Music always be with us. Thanks a million for sharing this one: awesome! Can't wait to see the remaining one.

Great blog! I’ve met Bob a couple of times. At the GroundUp Music Festival earlier this year and two years ago and also in England last year on his tour. He did a masterclass in Southampton followed by a concert the following evening. I think, generally, sax players are quite humble and Bob is no exception. Two sax nerds in a car. What’s not to love? At his concert in a Southampton there was a restored harpsichord o; the stage and his pianist couldn’t help including it on a song.

this is one of the great things about channels like these, it introduces you to new music.. Im not sax player, well i am, but i use the Roland electronic sax, a real sax is way too loud for where i live, but i do love real sax music, but my taste is not fast and twiddly, its cool and sultry type.. Never heard of Bob Reynolds, and the album a message for Mobley is absolutely fantastic.

Seems the “Comedians in cars getting coffee”-format also works for saxophonists driving to recordings 😜 This also reminded me of the film Goodwill Hunting: Bob as an agonized Matt Damon, immaculately analyzing his own situation to the bone yet not able to break out of it, and Jeff as Robin Williams, just dropping the right questions here and there...Man, people will love you and your music REGARDLESS whether you post a video at 2am or not. Focus on your family and true friendships, they are the most valuable factors in your life. All the rest will pass.

Hit the road at 7am, get to work at 8am, leave work most days at 6pm, home at 7pm. Need to eat, see dog and husband, practice (dog and husband hate the practice), get to bed at 10pm so I can do it all again. I don't watch tv but I do like to read.
