Kevin Brownlow was a special guest at 2009 KILLRUDDERY SILENT FILM FESTIVAL. He spoke here to Marek Bogacki about his life long passion for silent cinema.
Wikipedia: Kevin Brownlow is a film maker, film historian, television documentary-maker, and author. He is best known for his work documenting the history of the silent era. Brownlow developed an interest in silent film at the young age of eleven. This interest grew into a life-long passion for the cinema and a career spent documenting and restoring film. He is without question one of the most respected and admired historians of the early cinema and has rescued many a silent film and its history from oblivion. Seeking out and interviewing many, largely forgotten film pioneers in the 1960s and 1970s, he preserved a priceless legacy of cinema that would have otherwise been lost.

Kevin Brownlow's knowledge of silent film needs to be better known by Actors of today and audiences. Silent Film represents the beginning of the cinema movies and many are sadly unknown masterpieces of film. The music used for silent film sound be authentic from the original music written for the film and not modern music common today.

Thanks for your work....Mr. Brownlow. Silent films every third Sunday in the winter at the boarding school.....and that was the delight of the school experience. I would have thought the same, the room transformed into a theater. Brownlow, a natural genius for his expertise of the moving picture. I owe much to Kevin Brownlow...I was hooked during research on something that led me to them. He's right, the film MUST be shown on the right projector to know the experience in it's best form.

A wonderful video of Kevin. I love listening to him, he has so much to share. Plus it is just plain great to see him. Thank you Kevin for sharing and preserving so much of the silent cinema, our history. Much gratitude and affection 'C' ~ plus looking forward to acquiring the book about the making of HARD ACT TO FOLLOW with it's DVD.

It's been available for years, as has 'It Happened Here', but 'Winstanley' has just been re-mastered and re-issued by The British Film Institute. Search on Google or Amazon. Kevin has recently written a book about the making of the film too.
