► ABOUT THIS HIKE
In January 2023 I hiked for 10 days on the Island of Madeira. I started in the small town of Porto Moniz in the west and headed up the great plateau of Paul da Serra. I visited the 25 Fontes waterfalls and passed through a 2-kilometers tunnel to get to the coastal town of Seixal. Back on the pleteau I headed east towards Pico Grande, the second tallest peak on the island. I slept in a cave and descended down to the remote town of Curral Das Freiras (the valley of the nuns) hidden in a deep valley. I climbed up to the main ridge but was forced to descend down again the next morning due to unseasonable amounts of rain and cold. The next morning I climbed back up via a different route and merged onto trail PR1 via Pico do Arieiro. PR1 is the most beautiful trail on the island. I climbed to the top of the island: Pico Ruivo at 1862 meters. I camped overlooking the valley of Curral Das Freiras with an astonishing sunset. The last day I arrived on the peninsula Ponta de Sao Lourenco, the furthest one can walk east.
Full itinerary on harmenhoek.com/itinerary.
This is an ambient film without dialog.

You take top spot in my book as the best nature videographer! You are one of a rare breed that will have the courage to take the extreme efforts to creating beautiful, compelling, artistic compositions and putting it altogether into a tapestry of seamless perfection. This all taking place without egoic narration and commentary. Powerful work Harmen! Each of your videos capture such detail from the most finite of incremental to the vast pinnacles of grandeur while following a path that tells the complete story footstep by footstep without saying a word. I understand your stories completely! Just love your work sir! Keep it up!

I’m experiencing a very busy and stressful time in my life which has kept me from being able to hike since the beginning of this year. This video was like the perfect antidote/therapy/meditation. You are a brave man! I was on Madeira about two weeks after you, and I have the same drone as you. I only used it a few times. The wind was absolutely crazy. I was scared to launch it.

Wow, this ambient film of your 10-day hike on Madeira is breathtaking! The stunning scenery and your adventurous spirit are truly inspiring. It's incredible how you managed to capture the beauty of the island without any dialogue. Watching this film, I felt like I was right there with you on the journey. It makes me want to explore Madeira myself, and I'm sure our viewers would love to see more videos like this on our channel. Thanks for sharing your incredible experience!

Mr. Hoek what you do is art. Your films are amazing, my 19-year-old boy shared them with me, and watching them is one of my favorite things to do,. Greetings from South America.

Another wonderful video. We went to Madeira a couple of years ago and it is a magical place which you’ve captured perfectly. We explored some of the places you did so it was really special. You are a bit of an inspiration to us oldie newish channel owners who also prefer the silent, mindful approach of walking and filming in the natural world. Looking forward to the next video.
