That Italo-German air raid on the two British merchants was the most beautiful thing I've ever seen in a Silent Hunter video. Made even better by Wolfpack's cinematic shots!

Agreed. The only disappointment was that the Hurricanes didn’t try to shoot down the Ju 88’s. I guess air to air attack AI doesn’t exist in SH3.

I’m pretty sure that destroyer was in trouble. She wouldn’t be stopped for no reason. Maybe she was damaged by a British aircraft.

@@Paludion In my game, I remember seeing other Axis vessels only very close to my home port. Nowhere else. Allies have such sea supremacy I found it pretty safe not to double check before I attacked.

27:24 I couldn’t imagine being on the merchant ships and seeing your escort get hit by a torpedo. Just knowing the next one is coming for you and having to wait. That would be terrifying in such conditions.

At least you have a chance, honestly. These unguided torps are so easy to avoid by taking simple evasive maneuvers that just knowing a sub is there is your greatest defence, really. Conversely, the escort is essentially just torp bait, because the only thing that REALLY matters are those supplies being shipped. Allies were basically printing destroyers at this point, so good luck if you think you might make a dent in the escort population

His story telling and the way he immerses the audience could easily be turned into a full feature box office cinematic! This series, especially with this multi German armed forces and Italian engagement episode could make for an exciting film trilogy!!! What an incredible story you have told here Wolfpack, I cant wait for the conclusion of this series!!! This one is cool!

Now that’s nostalgic, not only because I used to love and play SH3 a heck of a lot, but your sub is featuring a whole lot of stuff I made a lifetime ago, interior models, textures, external ambient occlusion maps etc. Having spent literally months of my life back then with maya and photoshop, it’s nice to see them still in use!

@@dHempfler⁠ Thanks man! But just to be clear, I wasn’t one of the original Ubisoft dev team or anything like that, just made a few mods that got incorporated into larger mod packs (like GWX etc). I had the help of some of the original devs (mostly for reference material) and a German fella who went by the username DivingDuck, he was an absolute legend and helped me massively with importing maya/obj models into the game with S3d. If you were ever on the subsim forums, my username was flakmonkey, I produced a whole bunch of stuff for the game. But the new interior models were about the best thing I ever did, I just kinda feel bad I never finished the rear torpedo room!

This is the stuff I love. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the war on the sea and the other series, but the silent hunter stuff you put out is the some of my favourite content on youtube.

You have really developed an eye for these cinematic shots! And oh was the air attack great to watch! You'd need to find me a very special cargo in order for me to stay on my 20mm gun on a burning and exploding ship while my lifeboats are being shot and blown up by autocannons, bombs and torpedos!

Not so much fighting for the skies, but a gentlemen's aggreement - "Okay, you hunt the sub, we'll hunt the ships." (i.e. parallel battles) What might have happened was the large merchant may have been hit by an earlier airstrike. It would at least explain the presence of the the airstrike you observed.

Yeah, it would have been so cool if the Hurricanes had attacked the Ju 88’s. However, I don’t think the AI is capable of doing that in SH3.

I can see the Italian Air Force and Luftwaffe both claiming they sank all three ships… even though they only ever attacked the one… and it still took you doing 90% of the work for them to sink it.

Excellent episode! Great narration. It was incredible to see the other services involved in the attack on the merchants, but you still had to be wary of the enemy's aircraft too. There were lots of moving parts in this one.

You always need to have your batteries charged even when you’re chasing a target in case you need to crash drive suddenly. At least then you can dive with the knowledge that your batteries are either some what charged or fully charged. I do enjoy your story telling of this series and have followed you for a long time, I was there on your last U-boat series!!.

As much as submerging was absolutely the right choice, losing the run unnecessarily to an easily avoidable bomb hit would have sucked. I'd have loved to see you surface and go aa and as guns blazing. Deff a place where I'd drop a save for a fun battle scenario. 😊 Can you imagine how epic that would have been?? A heavily damaged armed merchant and sub duking it out both with aa guns blazing as an air battle roars overhead, bombs raining down and planes engaging eachother as the axis and allied air forces try to drag a victory out of the maelstrom. A naval legend in the making ❤

If you want to get the credit and the tonnage and you know someone else is gonna sink an Allied ship, just make sure one round fired by you hits it before the message comes up "enemy unit destroyed". No matter what that round is. It can be even as little as one round of your anti-aircraft ammunition.

At 18:20-ish, when the destroyer turned towards you (even though it was a false scare), was the diving footage from that same moment? Because if it was, you had the periscope up high (see 18:50-19:03). That would be like a mast, visible from quite a distance. Luckily the warship watch crew wasn't at their sharpest!

Been playing UBOAT recently, when will you get back to that and raid Alexandria? That series was super fun and raid on the Mediterranean fleets base would be epic and thrilling.
