If i remember right. The U.S. Navies Submarines and PT Boats sank over 70% of the Japanese merchant fleet. Forcing the Imperial Japanese government to use smaller wooden vessels and barges, by the end of the war.

Would the USS McCawley for 9000 tons be included in the figures? US PT boats sank their own ship at Guadalcanal.

@@MrPlusses : USS McCawley (a transport) was already abandoned and sinking by the stern when it was mistakenly attacked and sunk by PT boats which had been told there were no friendly ships in their patrol area. USS McCawley had previously been torpedoed and critically damaged by a Japanese torpedo bomber. The hit was in the engine room, leaving the McCawley with no power. Salvage attempts were abandoned when it became clear that the ship was sinking. So - the PT boats basically scuttled the McCawley.

At this point Buck has sunk so many Sanpans - I imagine other Allied Naval officer have nicknamed him 'Sanpan Buck'

Awesome episode taff, so looks like the tide of war has now started to change for the better, Guadalcanal secured, Stalingrad has ended in Soviet victory, I'd say the tide is now well and truly started changing. Now with Guadalcanal secured the rest of the US island hoping campaign is due to take place, understandably the neck of the woods your hunting in is going to be a hotspot for enemy merchant naval traffic, with friendly submarines doing their part the imperials will soon end up suffering the crippling effects over US navy wolfpack and individual submarine operations. Anything that bares the enemy flag is going to be fair game, now that Guadalcanal is secured the imperials are going to be on the defensive from here on, and they'll be reliant on their merchants.. time to force the imperials to their knees, mind you they'll end up desperate and relying on suicide attacks eventually but.. that's not going to be a frequent problem until I think.. 1945, though I think earlier attacks will start in 1944.. I think 🤔. Either way fantastic episode, loved it, keep it up and well done mate 👍

Should have used the stern tubes on the first merchant IMO, as there was enough time to swing the boat around before firing. Saving the bow tubes for faster targets like the 2nd pair is more efficient.

If that task group around the 12 minute mark was heaed NNE then that would be toward Saigon - you were reckoning to much toward NE rather than NNE. It would have taken you right into the shallow area so perhaps a fortuitous error!

Funny you mention this, I had the same thoughts when I was playing this when the game released, Michael Dorn was still being used in the odd video game voice over work and just assumed this was another role he took.
