Manual TDC firing in Silent Hunter 5. Not using 100% realism setting's in this tutorial.
So this should be of benefit for those taking there first steps from Auto TDC.

I recently picked up SH5. Thanks man, really appreciated this clip. I checked the Ubi forums and there is a mass of instant experts and 'realism freaks'. Much of the info is conflicting or poorly explained, so your clip/s are a breeze of fresh air. Now if Ubi could only get it's act together they might put this stuff in a manual... Cheers man, G.

@monkeybrains911. The bearing dial is the setting that shows where your periscope is pointing. When TDC is in Auto, the bearing is automatically updated to reflect where your scope is looking. When TDC is in Manual, the bearing is not updated and you must adjust this yourself - ie in fast 90 texhnique. I really must get around to making some vids as this one is very outdated.

Icon wont't show up in your playing at 100% ralism (Map contacts off). You will need to dock and change your setting if you want contacts on. Standimeter works by placing the horizon line of periscope on the waterline of the target. Then drag the waterline of the ghost image down to the funnel of the Target.

@sharky0922 may be that you are doing it so slowly that your angle and range you entered are already "out of date" by the time you are ready to fire??

at 2:45 theres that circl thing wat is that used for? and compass wats the compass used for? and at 3:50 wat is that circle thing? around ur sub also wat is a stadimeter wat is it used for and plz answer

i am confused, i dont get icons on my map for merchants, the stadimeter when placed on the horizon always gives 20,000m . what am i doing wrong?

@sharky0922 Sorry haven't looked up the comments in along time. I've been busy working on a Complete User Interface Mod for Sh5 that completly changes the minial system that is used in SH5. My Mod gives complete TDC controls and great graphics to the front end. Its still WIP but getting close to a full release The Beta can be downloaded from this link if you want to try it out.

Didn't know about the bug with torpedo skillpoints. The stadimeter is bugged also depending on the target the point to mearure to could be the top of mast or the top of funnel or the top of thr bridge. ITS REALLY A MESS. Hope they patch soon. I have started to measure all my shots using the ruler, and imputting the range manually.

Yes the stock stadimeter is bugged in the game no matter what ship you lock it sets its mast height to 20M. I've fixed this in my latest Mod plus a load of other stuff. Makes SH5 a totally different game. See Look for the Ui-boat V3 Mod in the Silent hunter 5 thread over at the subsim forums.

If a ship turns, then pretty much any contact information is no longer relevant and you then need to recalculate ships targeting information for the contacts new bearing, or try to get to a new better optimized position. Personally if the ships are zigzagging I leave them be and move to a better position where they stop zigzagging. Otherwise they will likely turn after you have entered the solution and fired, thereby missing the target.

@Baleur hahaha very funny .. no baleur, its a bug , one of the guys measured torpedoes speeds, before you add some skill points to a torpedo man and after. and it looks like torpedoes are quicker after but TDC dosent take it into account so there;s the mistake.. you have to take 1-2(depends whats speed if he goes 35 k then ti will be probably 4-5 didnt test that on destroyers yet) knots of ships speed to get hit, i hope patch gonna fix it

Purpose of the video was not the perfect firing solution, but to show a missed chance and how its possible to still get a target that's over 4 miles out and steaming away at an akward angle. Its easy to use a Fast90 shot at a target only a mile away, in-fact its easy to hit 3 targets at the same time using the fast90 as shown in my SH3 Fast 90.mp4 video well it would if the third wasn't a dud. And its good to know how to how to fire in those situation's. :)

I treid 100 times your metod and i keep missing! i dont know what i;m doing wrong but torps are coming or to early, or to late.. even when i;m in good position 90 degres to his course. how the hell did you do that?!!!!! btw stadimeter is faulty, its a bug somethimes he shows right distance when you drag ghost image to the funnel sometimes to the deck ..etc

Guess you havent seen my UI Mod for SH5 yet :) Blows whats in the video out of the water. Look for "Ui-Boat V4.14" in the subsim forums or via google. Totally redone the User Interface.

@lugvonfalk yes it is pretty "yahoo" music. You don't like it stick your fingers in your ears. And I know my history quite well, thank you. As for being propagandist, get a life its a tuturial in a game, not U-Boat training camp 1943. I'm the Kaulein of my boat and I'll tune the radio to what ever station I want. LOL
