Every year for as long as I can remember, I sing this song by candlelight on Christmas Eve together with my parents, grandparents, aunt, and cousins. With the 2020 situation, it seems pretty unlikely that it will happen... So I made my own version to share with you :)
I strongly associate this song with family and reflection of the past year. So, I also ~attempted~ a verse in German since I thought so much of my metal fam in Germany. So strange to not see them at all this year. (Hi Sascha and co., I miss you!)
To my knowledge, "Silent Night" was originally composed by Franz Xaver Gruber in 1818, to lyrics written by Joseph Mohr.

This is an amazing arrangement, I'm curious about the process of making this, how much did you actually keep from the original, how much you added yourself (as composition)...

Thanks a lot :) Trying to not go into too much nerdy detail, but I kept the contour of the melody in 00:00-1:15, and I kept pretty much any 1, 4, and 5 chord so that the cadences remained. But I changed the chord qualities in a lot of places, so for example, any 1 chord that was major I changed to minor :) The link at 1:15 is an abbreviated version of the chord progression that follows (i, iv, i) but just played fancy, so it's technically not even really my own compositional addition I guess! ...Seems like I might have failed to not get super nerdy, but maybe it's what you wanted :) Thanks for asking, I love to talk about this stuff!

@@AdrienneCowan I like super nerdy explanations. I'm still a beginner with composition but this is very interesting and I also sometimes try to write heavier cover versions of songs. Oh btw, it's me, Jan :D

@@motokonayko4661 the german part is, I believe, the first verse, so: Stille Nacht, heilige Nacht, Alles schläft; einsam wacht Nur das traute hochheilige Paar. Holder Knabe im lockigen Haar, Schlaf in himmlischer Ruh! Schlaf in himmlischer Ruh! it goes 1st verse English, 1st verse German and then 3rd verse - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Silent_Night

This is genuinely the best christmas/metal adaptation I've heard. Most of these are really kinda tongue-in-cheek and cheesy, but this feels sincere and it's beautiful.

Hi Adrienne:) I’ve been following you for a few years now, shortly after you and the boys dropped Solveig. It was clear you had a great deal of vocal prowess and potential even then. I was stoked when you all announced Emerald Seas, and it’s a true pleasure seeing your IG updates and stories and all of that recently. This cover is really well crafted, from a musical, vocal, and production perspective. I think it would be a fantastic idea to continue making YT content here and there, not only for the sake of exposure, but I do believe that it’s an excellent way to continue honing your craft and getting real time feedback from the fans and others. Going into this, I figured "Adrienne has a nice voice, I bet she sings this really beautifully", not expecting you to yell at us, because it's called Silent Night. However, you just blew me away especially in that second half! I never would've thought I would need to hear this song in this arrangement! Fantastic job with the arrangement! I don't think anyone expected that, even though most of us know what you're capable of! It's great to be able to still surprise us! And good job with the sneaky product placement with the mug haha ;)

I just discovered it and been listening to it on repeat now for like an hour. I just love everything about this composition! The change to minor (dont know theoretics), the instrumentalization with some symphonic-churchy touches, the mix of slow, beautiful and hard styles, the background singing (especially the classical part behind your final scream), the german part... and ofc your vocalization. It is insane, how much I am digging this right now! Thank you so much for creating such an amazing piece of art!

I absolutely adore your Christmas covers! especially Silent Night and We Three Kings are just absolutely perfect! I heard them years back but coming back to them again to get into the Christmas spirit I'm liking them even more than I used to!
