In 2022 Dutch Fendt-importer Agromec introduced the worlds first 100% commercial electric Fendt tractor: the 700 Vario Electric. The 720 Vario Gen6 is used as a base model for this tractor. The diesel engine is replaced with a 150 kW electric motor. A large li-ion battery sits in the front of the tractor which gives a range of up to 5 hours of working time. Large Dutch engineering company Ploegam uses 5 of these tractors on various sites in the Netherlands.
In this video you get a unique first view of these tractors, how they operate in the field and how much money they cost. What do you think of this tractor and electric power? Is it the future for tractors?

It’s really cool how they made the batteries interchangeable, but it’s a problem in some areas that it blocks the usage of the front 3 point hitch

I think it works without the pack in front, as there is 70kwh under the hood if I remember correctly😊

@@agronorth2640 the small battery under the bonnet is only used as an emergency back-up and for moving the tractor when switching powerboxes.

the Batteries are now a Problem.. but the System works obviously well. Like in other High Torque Applications. I wanted a Electric Telehandler!

I've first noticed agromec a few years ago, nice to see a video of their tractors in action that is not produced by themselves. Of course the pricetag shuts down every discussion regarding cost-competitiveness immediately but if it's a question of whether or not being allowed to enter a construction site I see why it has its market. And if the battery prices keep dropping like they did the last ten years, maybe this concept becomes a viable option in other use cases, too...

1 battery lasts 2-5 hours, 2-3 batteries needed per day each needing 1 hour charge time or 400~ liters of fuel which takes minutes to fill and will likely last 2-2.5 days doing this kind of work.

Its the first Version of such a traktor - its expesive and it cant be used in every Situation but it is the beginning. You see at the cars - and then in 2-5 years the Situation is another - i only buy e cars now

Hydrogen engines would be more suitable for agricultural machinery and construction ones that are not stationary. Quicker to fill up and less high power electric distribution. Cost of batteries and new technology still a disadvantage unless government grants subsidies.

Hydrogen is kinda iffy for farming equipment currently. I remember watching a Claas Livestream on it where they calculated that a Lexion 8900 would need a 21m³ space (including for the engines) to have the same operating time as with its current diesel engine, even considering the space taken by the diesel engine, exhuast system and fuel tanks.

@@cheechU38K that is the reason why they went for electric. Less storage space and cheaper (hydrogen is dear). Also for hydrogen you need an electric driveline so this can theoratically do it.

Really handy,now you need only few battery driven fendts to deliver loaded batteries to to jobsite,which then need their batteries changed every few hours...,but wait ,i see a pattern here..

Combination of fendt vario drive with electric engine makes no sense to me, it’s just more inefficient

The idea is that the tractor can quite easily be converted back to diesel and sold after say 10 years.

Also, that's "just" towing a trailer. How much battery changes would be needed for full work day with large plough?

I don't think that is viable as you would need to change the battery every hour.

About 3x the diesel usage, meaning if you’re using 25 l/hr it will use 75kw of power from the battery. Will check if this is right in practice later this year

I would not like to own one I'm more used to driving diesel tractors, I could never see myself in an electric tractor it would just too damn quiet and would run out of charge on the amount of field work I do.

Considering this pricetag lease must be the only option, but then I guess you will never get a decent ROI within, lets say, 5 to 7 years because of the huge leaseprice!! So to me it looks more like a very expensive hobby for company's with too much money...😅

It’s about 400 000 euro more expensive than a new 720. Given 10 year time that’s 109 euro more per day. 75 liters a day, should work out?
