Silently Opening My Oldest Bottle and Making Cocktail

I recently acquired a lot of six old bottles of Amer Picon, five of which are identical, while one appears younger. After conducting some research, I believe these bottles date back to the 1930s based on their shape and alcohol by volume (ABV). Only one of the bottles still had a decent label, so I cleaned them and opened the one that had completely lost its label. My quest to recreate the original Brooklyn cocktail is not over, but this was the closest I've ever come. Since the Brooklyn cocktail was first created in 1910, I need to continue my search for an original bottle of Picon, which I believe had an even higher ABV than the one I obtained. If you happen to find one, please let me know; I would be immensely grateful! ;)
The dirt on the bottle made me wonder if it had been stored in good conditions, but the fact that the level of the liquid inside was barely affected by the angel's share gave me a good feeling. The cork smelled incredibly good - a mix of sweet spices, caramel, and a hint of coffee. Compared to the Picon sold nowadays, which has a much lower ABV, this bottle is drier and slightly more bitter. The orange flavor has dissipated, making room for strong caramel and toffee notes.
I enjoyed it in the Brooklyn cocktail as it develops a beautiful dry sweetness and bitterness, but the familiar orange flavor I'm used to was almost gone. Next time, I plan to add a small dash of orange bitters to compensate.
Overall, I would give this bottle a rating of 4/5
I loved it!

Hi friends! I hope you'll accept this unusual video this week. I thought it would say more to show silently the ceremony behind opening such a precious bottle (It doen't worth that much but for me it's almost priceless) If you want some tasting notes and background story, I wrote some in the description. Cheers!

I used Benedictine DOM with Gin and Lillet Blanc and everyone really enjoyed it.. the long viscous finish soared across the palate while expressing those delicate botanical aromas from The Botanist Gin, the Lillet Blanc added complexity and depth... I am proud of my creation🙏

Thanks a lot my friend! Really means a lot you liked it. I think I'll wait until I can find some other vintage bottles to complete a "carré" before opening the Bene (if you know what I mean) and I know, it was the same when I was in Canada. I love this here. Cheers!

I love it! As someone who does get ASMR and listens to a lot of non-voiced content, this was a fun cross-over. If I may give a note for the potential Benedictine episode (which I hope you will make!): if you favor the bartop/in-studio sounds a little more in the audio mix over the music, it would heighten the effectiveness of the video as ASMR. Whatever you decide to do, I'm sure it will be wonderful. Thanks for the video!

I saw a clear colored bottle with 39°, I wonder from what time it is EDIT: Checked again, looks like it has a slight green tint and seems to be circa 1890, still has the cork but about half the liquid and according to the seller, the bottle has been leaking.

Hi JF, I couldn’t even find a current bottle of Amer Picon in France last summer! Can you recommend a few great mixology shops in Paris that would sell it?
@TrufflesOnTheRocks
@TrufflesOnTheRocks 7 ай бұрын
Picon is usually sold at the supermarket rather than liquor stores. So maybe you were simply looking at the wrong place because usually you can get some very easily. That being said, for other spirits, La Maison du whisky in Paris is the best I know. Cheers
