Welcome to our special session on sewing and fitting jeans! We would like to give a special thank you to all of our wonderful subscribers! We will spend several hours constructing a pair of great fitting jeans, with you asking us questions right by our side.
We try to accommodate as many viewers as possible during the live stream so we will record this broadcast on KZfaq for ease of viewing. However, questions must be emailed before the event or answered live. Happy Sewing!

Peggy, I have watched this video over and over. It's one of the best resources out there about making jeans. But that's not the best thing about it. The best thing about this video is, watching you make a pair of jeans in real time makes the rest of us feel like we can do it too! Maybe not as fast, and maybe not as well as you can, but it's amazing seeing someone do it from start to finish. Thank you for your information and inspiration!!!

The fabric is the French digital knit on our site, www.silhouettepatterns.com. The digital knits are a new process that is being done in France to print fabrics....very cool.

The way I learned to flat fell is to sew the seam wrong sides together with offset allowence (or cut one side of the allowence down after sewing) press the long side over the short side fold in to enclose, and sew the folded edge down. Is this close to what the automatef flat feller in the factories does? What is the difference in strength between a fully flat felled seam, and your faux flat felled seams? I sew corsets, and use the full flat fell seams described above for their rugged strength - and because it makes a channel to insert steel bones. Would the time savings of your faux flat fells be worth the difference in strength in my boning channels?

I was on vacation when you taped this, so watched later. Question about serging: Do you tie off your thread tails? What do you do to keep them from unraveling?

Susan Nielsen They will be over stitched with another seam. The whole garment is finished on the edges so at some point every seam is over stitched.

Thank you Peggy. This is a wonderful video tutorial. I am excited to sew jeans now. I just want to ask, "Is a muslin the same thing as a sloper"?

I know this video is 2 years old ,but I have just recently found you on u tube and am very excited about all the wonderful things I am learning. Thank you ! I live in Johannesburg South Africa. Is it possible to order patterns to be sent here ? I know a lot of American companies do not . Can I make jeans in thick canvas -like the original Levi's were? My husband likes the jeans to be heavy duty fabric like in the 60's. I have and industrial walking foot machine,as well as a home sewing machine and overlocker (surger)

Interesting about the back being the most & only pattern piece critical for being on straight of grain... what with the front pant being multiple sections and not so critical. Good to know!

I have already made a muslin of 3300 and I have made it 3 times already. Can I use the alterations I've made to 3300 to 3500 or do I need to make another muslin?

Is that a Topaz 50 I spotted you sewing on? Is is it a Sapphire 960Q? Oh, one more question, why are you using the Babylock instead of the Viking s21?

Peggy, thank you for such helpful videos. I have a suggestion for your microphone/cord problem! Run the cord up the back of your shirt. If there is any drag on your ear, place the cord at a comfortable level at your neckline, and secure with a clip barrette or binder clip. This makes all of the difference! (If the cord isn't long enough, send it up one side of your shirt instead.) I also agree with the camera ideas... I so wanted to see close-ups of your sewing! Could you add a Go-Pro camera to your sewing machine? In the meantime, the jeans are adorable, and you make everything seem so easy! Thank you again.
