Tarikh Episode 625
In This Episode Nikhil talks about The Silk Road, which was an ancient network of trade routes that connected the East and West, facilitating the exchange of goods, ideas, and cultures. Spanning several thousand miles, this interconnected web of routes traversed through the heart of Asia, linking the Mediterranean, Middle East, Central Asia, and the Far East.
Originating in China, the Silk Road derived its name from the lucrative trade in silk that flourished along its routes. However, it wasn't just silk that was traded; a vast array of commodities such as spices, precious metals, textiles, and exotic goods were exchanged, fostering a rich cultural exchange between civilizations.
The Silk Road played a pivotal role in the development of civilizations, contributing to the spread of technologies, religions, and philosophies. It facilitated interactions between diverse societies, fostering economic prosperity and intellectual advancements.
Despite the challenges posed by vast deserts and formidable mountain ranges, the Silk Road endured for centuries, reaching its zenith during the Han and Tang dynasties in China. Over time, the routes evolved and adapted to changing political landscapes and economic dynamics, leaving a lasting legacy of interconnectedness and cultural diffusion that continues to resonate in the modern world.

When the Muslims captured Istanbul in in 1453 AD, the Europeans wanted a alternate route to this silk route to reach India. So began the exploration through ocean. Vasco De Gama, Colombus and others went to sail to a sea route to India.

Before English became the dominant global language, the Silk Road had various names in different cultures and languages. In Chinese, it was known as the "丝绸之路" (Sīchóu zhī Lù), in Persian as the "راه ابریشم" (Rāh-e Abrisham), and in Arabic as the "الطريق الحريري" (Al-Ṭarīq al-Ḥarīrī), among others. The term "Silk Road" itself is a modern, Western-coined term.

Instead of silk route, plz make a video on spice route which is actually Indian and also known as maritime route in latter times. But despite this many people don't know about it. We have to teach our ancient Indian origin spice route more than Chinese silk route.

One of the main reason for shutting down the silk route is the fall of Constantinople from Byzantine empire and Otyoman turks taking over it. They imposed heavy taxes and banned few goods like opium etc. Europeans were forced to find sea route to India due to this.

China itself was military super power with large army. Ming China was the most powerful. From 200Ad to till 1800 China has been seen as world superpower. Their trade, silk, China chip, tea, paper made them rich civilization. By the time of Ming China has powerful navy and best cannons and muskets. The only invasion who were successful were Mongols for short period of time than british. Timurid the tamerlane was only the turco-mongol guy who had plan to attack China had prepared large force. On top China also had from west side large mountains with vast Gobi desert. So it was difficult.

@@demigodpersia I think you are pointing two points, military superpower and difficult terrain from west. They both may be giving China a strong advantage, but the point here of question is if the silk route was so famous why couldn’t the west powers used the same routes and captured china or vice versa where china captures west as they were super power for very longtime.

Silk may be invented in /china but, the best silk clothing was from India.... Test for that was that whole whole rack of Indian silk could pass through a ring without any obstruction..The reason was that there were no knots in whole rack of Indian silk..... Indian silk could be purchased only in exchange of equal weight of Gold in European markets...Indian weavers were famous world over till the arrival of British colonialists in India.... India accumulated so much gold in exchange of silk that it became famous as "Golden bird" or "Sone ki chidiya" in spite of no significant Gold mine in India..... Advent of Islam and its loot destroyed the silk route.... Lallantop should tell correct facts to its viewers....
