I like the combination of Silky Saws and Gransfors Bruks, and have a couple of Silky Big Boy Outback's, a Gomboy Outback and an F-180. With a Gransfors Bruks Mini Hatchet, Wildlife Hatchet and Small Forest Axe, I can pair the most appropriate Silky and GB to whatever my needs or preferences may be. The Mini Hatchet and F-180 make for a very lightweight pair, suitable for inclusion in an emergency kit (I prefer the term emergency kit over survival kit). Invariably, the Mini or Wildlife Hatchet and Big Boy Saw are my preferred duo. My Small Forest Axe and Silky Big Boy Outback Saw live in the boot of my car. I started out with a Gerber Sportsman Saw, the lightest saw I've ever known, and whilst Gerber no longer make that little gem, the Silky F-180 is its superior successor!

I love my Silky Saws. The 2nd notch and the one not commonly used, is actually better suited for sawing below the belt. Keeps the angle of the blade from going into the ground.

Got the Silky Big Boy and it’s an essential piece in my kit, the axe is too much work , the useful tool is a splitting maul, the orange handle is a better choice in my opinion, and the bitey front is what you need to grab resilient material

@@LivingtoLearnHow do the two compare? I'm having trouble deciding what one to buy...I assume the big boy will burn less calories and process more wood; but I'm looking to be able to pack it in a canoe so the size of the Gomboy appeals to me. Having never seen either in person your opinion would be appreciated. 👍 Great vid!

@inforestsandlands
@inforestsandlands 7 ай бұрын
It does if you have never used one before. It is a tool meant for arborists. Most blade breaks are usually from the transition People make from a regular push-pull saw to just a pull saw. I personally have never broke a blade. But I took my time to.get used to them at the start.
