I have the folding variation, GomBoy and LongBoy, used for pruning fruit trees and 16 oak trees. Silky is the preferred saw globally in the in Arbor community. This weekend I trimmed oak suckers in 10 minutes. The saws cut like a hot knife through butter

I bought it for pruning the big fruit trees on our property and the smooth cut is essential for the tree to recover.

Got Silky pocket boy, big boy, and katana boy...all of them are incredible... for those unfamiliar with Silky...they are a Japanese style saw and work on the PULL stroke only...takes a little to get use to...but AWESOME saws. All the VERY BEST!

Hey mate good choice of saw. I have the gomboy 240 curved medium tooth blade & the sugowaza 420 & katanaboy 650. I to have the sugowaza for shelter building & processing timber. A couple of tips. The sugowaza has that semi hook on the tip of the blade , to help amateurs with fully drawing the blade into the log / timber . The hook will basically stop you from withdrawing the blade through the log. It effectively acts like a bigger saw & cuts much faster then the strokes in the video. Being a few years on I'm sure you are getting the full benefits of the saw now . Mind you this is the 1st video of yours I've watched.. thanks mate.

Thank you Ben for a look at this saw. I think that this saw would have a optional purpose. Absolutely not for a "get home" kit, and maybe not even for a "bug out" kit. Absolutely useful for the homestead or for an "I'm never coming home" inch bag though. I would love to see this saw put up against a Boreal 21 saw, or the Bob's Quick 21 saw. I think it would be a great alternative to these, in carry, weight and performance.

Well that looks pretty awesome, never heard of it before this video. It’s tempting because i know how good silky blades are, but I’m still going to stick with my Gomboy 240, it’s shorter but still big enough for any of the trees in your video, and has one distinct practical advantage: you can unfold the blade at two angles. In the furthest unfolded position, the saw has a “back bow” that allows you to easily saw wood laying on the ground or any flat surface really. The sugowaza would be pretty annoying to use in that way. If I were a landscaper, or had the patience to rig up saw horses like you did, I’d use that thing all day, but as it is I’m more often sawing firewood on the ground, picnic table or other available surface. If I do ever find the need to up my saw game though, this would be the one, they really make great stuff.

seeing you go through that oak sold me, took around 40 seconds, we have black oaks on our property here and it would have taken 15-20 minutes chopping through a branch half the size of the one you did using an axe!

the Sugowaza is fierce but I would only have it for the cabin, for my pack I would use that really cool Silky folder you have in the video. ty for a great vid as always.

I love mine. I haven't reviewed it yet but I'm going to. I'll cut on 3 sides if I have the room to move the saw.

Very impressive hand saw!

I just spent the weekend in the woods bucking up wood with a Katanaboy. We felled and cut up two entire trees with that thing. I love my Gomboy and Pocketboy but these larger Silkeys are something else. I really liked the ability to use two hands with the Katanaboy. That will be my next saw.

That´s an impressive saw. I got the Silky Zübat, which is a bit smaller than the Sugowaza and fits inside any pack I have, but still cuts very well.

I bought similarly that one at liquidation store only $8.00 Can. About ten years ago. I has been used it many time and it still in good condition

great video (as always) .. this is indeed perfect for the camping / car emergency bag... as I kayak camp I will have to carry a folder for many times the river/ creeks are blocked by downed trees ..but maybe this would work since its in my kayak.. Love how easily it did the oak... as my friend says, " THREE thumbs up... " .. he had an accident as a kid and split his left thumb in two...Also saw (see what I did there lol) that your a south paw...) any problems with that grip being a lefty?

I have a Samurai 330 and a CEuk Trojan 300.. I also have the Sugowaza .. all brilliant saws, but this beast is as quick as a small chainsaw but cheaper to run, environmentally friendly .. and quieter ! .. Go on treat yourselves

Great saw,thought about buying the zubat,alone with the silky big boy saws,an probably a portable hand axe hatchet, to to have all around tools in the woods an my puukko 140,I believe I'd be ok.

The efficiency of a full sized tool like this melts away time and calories burn, obviously depends on application, but if you're planing on building a shelter or serious fire wood, it's probably worth the size and weight. Also awesome trail cleaner, ATVers. Thanks for the demo. Nice vid.

Good review of good silky saw. A like for it. A combination of Kabar fighting utility knife, Condor Greenland hatchet and silky folding Gomboy with medium tooth is perfect set for any outdoor adventures IMHO. ^_^

I bought the 420mm Sugoi to trim a little weight, but still have enough saw to cut down a rain forest.

Oil your blade to reduce the resin deposited on your blade when cutting.

Lean back on the pull, flow through up and over the cut on the push taking care to throw rigidly with a moderately firm grip slightly loosening temporarily as you change tack.

Is that the 360 or 420 ? Checking Amazon, They only come with XL teeth.

Silky needs to make a push cut bow saw blade for the agawa canyon folding bow saw, that would be epic. & make it without the impulse hardened teeth like the sugowaza, Silky cutting power but with bow saw blade durability.

Nice looking, never owned that one, I have the Zubat, Ibuki, Sugoi, Kamisorime, Gomtoro, and now I just got a Tsurugi. Zubat is my fave so far. Looks powerful, I'd rather carry the Zubat backpacking, it's smaller , lighter and cuts 90% as fast as that one.

I think the Silky Tsurugi would be a better option for hunting/camping. Still a killer saw, really any Silky saw is fantastic.

Between an axe and a saw, which you are prefer? The saw looks like only need a little effort to use and smaller room than axe. Even much lighter than axe. Does it become dull faster relatively than axe?

Awesome review...this would be useful for processing larger trees or branches, but for the money I'll stick to my $20.00 corona.

Try a quick undercut (2-3 strokes) before your top cut. The fibers will break of cleaner with no snags and less compression build-up on the blade.

Where did you get the sweater with the thumb holes? Is it wool?

No doubt silky saws are great performers. However they come at an equally great price. For my money, I use an Irwin Marathon Protouch Coarse Cut Carpenters saw. I use a 15" for backpacking and 24" for winter camping. The 15" can be had for about $18 Canadian dollars when on sale. I have videos on my channel that show the saw in action and the other winter wood processing tools I use.

Its cool but for the size I would rather take a bow saw with a similar blade length. A bow saw would be lighter and normally cost a lot less. My EKA viking has a 20 inch blade, is half the weight and half the cost all in a packable that folds up to a much smaller packable size.

who needs a bow saw?

Is there anything bad about the saw, other than size? How long have you used it? Kind of tired about people just posting equipment and giving positive reviews without really using the gear. Cutting a few few logs out back just doesn't cut it, no pun intended, any more.

i find it exagerated to buy such a professional saw for hiking/camping, these are expensive because they are extra sharp and made for extended professinal use for tree care and pruning works, because it's important for the health of the plants. but if you have enough money why not, they are defenitely worth the money.
