I would cut the pound cake into thin layers, spread buttercream and seedless jam, then stack together and cut into little cakes, THEN ice them. Store bought makes it easier than baking the cake, so I think I'm going to do that this weekend :)

Wow, I like this idea! I am not much of a baker anymore. I have a friend that has a birthday coming up and wanted to do petifores for a tea. This is a very easy way to do them. Fancy little cakes make it more of an event. I think I might even try layering some with jam or even lemon curd. Thanks!

This is amazingly simple! I am planning a Great Gatsby theme birthday for a friend and wanted to do an elegant sweets table- petit fours are so classy but they seemed too difficult and too time consuming to make. You are a life saver!!!

This is a perfect solution for my family since we are all allergic to dairy and cannot find a dairy free candy melt, almond bark, white chocolate, etc. to make homemade poured fondant. There are several dairy free canned frostings available in the market so I am going to give this a try for Easter. Thank you for sharing.

I would take it a step further and use butter cream or apricot jam as a filling (cutting each cake into 2 layers) , and use a spoon to coat the cakes with. You can keep the frosting warm either in a small crock pot or putting the frosting bowl in a larger bowl of very warm water. Not sure about the melted frosting compared to pourable fondant I would have to try it and see. I think rushing making petit fours takes away form them.

I am so grateful to have seen this. I am wanting to make petit fours for my daughter's afternoon tea party birthday....and I watched other tutorials and I was thinking O.M.Gosh this is going to take forever and I'm going to have buy all these ingredients and some kitchen appliances that I don't have......and then I found your tutorial and I'm happy!! Oh and to all you snotty people commenting about touching her hair...she made these just for the tutorial I'm sure and I'm sure she's not serving these to strangers, your definitely not eating them.....so get over it!!

I'm looking forward to trying this. Being that I work a lot of hrs, I love shortcuts if the tastes is as good. They look fine for the speed that you took to show it to others. The only thing that bothered me was the number of times you ran your fingers thru your hair & then touching food that others eat. Maybe a net or pull back your hair although I'm hoping its bc you were doing a video & wanted to look nice. But it does take away the watering of mouthes if this is common practice. But that being said I love the idea & speed. Can't wait to try it!

Some warm water would help thin it and I like soft pink colour also add some butter cream that helps coat evenly
@shary49710 жыл бұрын
I'm gonna do this except I'm gonna color the frosting and also decorate the rope with some piped designs
@KimPhilibert12039 жыл бұрын
It would be easier & (to me) make more sense to get a skewer stick and put it in each petit four & DIP them instead of going thru melting a 2nd time. That is how I would do it. But I do prefer fondant to this. I agree w/ Sarah Clark, just a bit too sweet for me...

Hi Deborah, Great idea and it seems so easy. Can you make these ahead and freeze them? If so, how long would they be good?>
@deborahginsburg898 жыл бұрын
+Carolyn Hogsed I make them ahead and refrigerate them for a few days. I've never frozen them but I think it would work. I would recommend putting them on a wax paper or parchment lined sheet and freezing them that way and then putting them in a container. that way they won't stick together.

Does the frosting become firm? Or does it return to its pre-melted consistency?
@deborahginsburg899 жыл бұрын
Nicole Clear The frosting will harden eventually. Just don't over melt it or it will separate.
@reiashram31308 жыл бұрын
you should have cut them in half and spread seedless raspberry jam in-between then coated then decorated them with colored buttercream.

How does the frosting dry? Does it dry like a normal one?
@deborahginsburg898 жыл бұрын
+Eva Gene Tulabut The store bought frosting will harden as it cools so be sure to put your decorations on right away or they won't stick to the cake.
@shawnkatz96858 жыл бұрын
+Deborah Ginsburg And this is plain old can frosting from Betty Crocker? I've never had frosting in a can harden on a cake before. How is this possible? Can you actually pick these little guys up and not have frosting all over your fingers?
@Joanna-qv6cz7 жыл бұрын
does the icing get hard?
@deborahginsburg897 жыл бұрын
yes it will harden in about 5 min. If you are going to decorate them I would do it right away. enjoy!

what could be a substitue for frosting?
@deborahginsburg897 жыл бұрын
You could use a ganache. The goal is to cover them completely so they look really finished. you could try melting Nutella. I have never done that before.

thanks 😊 i'll try to make one

@MrChrissywissy12310 жыл бұрын
My God lady, why don't you just use a skewer to dip them in???
@deborahginsburg899 жыл бұрын
Anselm Strudley I've tried to dip them and I have found this to be faster. I prefer this method because you can actually layer the frosting, create drip patterns or use other colors. If you dip them let me know how it works.
@AmandaDee869 жыл бұрын
Deborah Ginsburg I made my own pour fondant and dipped them instead or pouring. That method left cake crumbles behind in th bowl of icing! The first few looked good, but the rest of the batch had lumps in the icing.

omg this recipe is sad at least make a layer for god's sake i mean shortcuts like the ready frosting and the pound cake are ok for someone who is busy but those shouldn't be called petit fours ...Sorry admire ppl who try but at least respect the ppl who really try ... :-(

@Marla.2210 жыл бұрын
would rather make my own cake....lol These squares are too big for petit 4s. They need to be dipped in some poured fondant icing. Pouring it on with ready made frosting is just wrong!There are sides showing , but as you said if this if for family, its diff. I don't prefer this method as it looks too sloppy. Sorry

*Marla Summers* ...Why don't you just make your own cakes and your own video then instead of downing the efforts that Ms. Ginsburg shared with us on her thread? Nothing whatsoever wrong with having different ways of creating different things. I have never made these before and don't do much at all by "scratch" so I'm at the "assembling notes" stages with this. I found this method looks, quick, easy and inspiring.
@Marla.229 жыл бұрын
I DID and they look a WHOLE lot better than this crap that was shown! Petit Fours are small, not huge like these. Terrible Video and Terrible baker. She does NOT now what she is doing
@RavensShadowSpectre9 жыл бұрын
*Marla Summers* You are incredibly rude. I don't see the point in your cruel comments. You are NOT and WILL NOT be the be all and end all in baking, or anything for that matter. It's as though you have some personal vendetta or something. Crazy immature.

Those were not the quality of even a Little Debbie snack cake. No "layers". No raspberry filling inside. Just a lump of cake with icing as if an elementary class was doing a project. Some of these videos are so disappointing.
