Silver Dollar City - The Flooded Mine

Since this is the 50th anniversary of Silver Dollar City, here's a video I shot back in 2004 of one of my favorite attractions. The Flooded Mine opened sometime in the late 1960's and was designed by the great designer Andy Miller. Guests get to take a journey through a flooded silver mine known as the Unlucky Silver Mine that has been taken over by prisoners.
Fifteen or twenty years ago, the attraction became an arcade style shooter ride, which unfortunately takes away from the enjoyment of this attraction. I would love to see this ride restored back to how it used to be. That said, I'm very happy this attraction is still part of Silver Dollar City.

Thanks for posting this. Brought back a lot of memories. First went to SDC in the early 70's, back when this ride (and everything else there) was still like originally designed. The old tree house was the first thing they ruined. In the mid 70's they gutted the rifles and gizmos that were up there. Grew up, had kids, took them there in the 80's. I still have a tintype picture of us all dressed as hill folk hanging in my den. :) In the mid 80's it was in disrepair. Now it has roller coasters?!!

I loved this ride back in the late 1970s, early 1980s when I was a kid. That song brings back memories. But my favorite part of the ride doesn't seem to exist anymore. Wasn't there an avalanche or rock slide, where a strobe light was going and these (foam) boulders and rocks would fall down directly over your head, but they would land on a net that was stretched over the channel? That was a great trick... so effective yet simple.

This is a very tough ride to do a POV video on because you have activity on all sides of you. Great job of capturing the environment - this is the first Flooded Mine Shaft video I've seen that made me feel like I was really there. EXCELLENT WORK.

Thanks for this! I wish SDC would release a CD of all the classic music from this and other rides there. The have some MP3s on their website, but they only include small bits. I want the version of the Flooded Mine song with the mandolins! And the full Fire in the Hole song with dialog. Please SDC! I'd pay...

It seems like most known amusement parks have rides like others with their own twists but no one can beat going to silver dollar city!

Great ride, I've always known this ride to have the guns, I think it's s good part of the ride!

Reminds me of my childhood at Silver Dollar TN/ Dollywood, except that flooded mine did not have laser tag and it had a cool effect at the end that made the riders feel like they were about to be flooded and drown as strobe lights went off and water came crashing down all around. 1997 was the last year for the Dollywood mine ride.

I miss the version they had at Dollywood. Worst decision they made was to demolish it. At least they kept Blazing Fury which is there Fire in the Hole.

Always loved this ride! I agree they need to restore it to it's original state. The strobe lights are no longer used but they use to enhance certain aspects of the ride. I also miss the rockfall at the end.

I so wish they would get rid of the laser guns and just increase the animation. Not sure if kids these days even notice that there is a bit of a story line to the Flooded Mine!

They, need to bring this ride back to Dollywood. Demolishing it was stupid! It was a fun ride.

I loved this ride despite how noisy it is. The next time i go to Silver Dollar City i'm going on it without hesitation. I just hope my aim's improved since i never did very good. XD

I hate they removed from Dollywood, the rumor of snakes was such bull crap, no water moccasins in East TN, it was a fun ride n very cool inside on a hot day

When I first went to brandson a few years ago I had an terrible earache ( Yet we still went to brandson anyway ) there was bit with a guy yelling and that made my earache worse... now im gonna go to brandson again now i hope i can give this place another chance.
