I live close to this park and I started doing a monthly “pack walk” where the Marion County Animal Shelter brings a big school bus load of adoptable dogs out there and people volunteer to walk them through the park. It gets them socialized and release some of their anxiety from being in the shelter. It’s a lot of fun. Glad to hear you liked the park. 😊❤

I love your presentation giving us a site by site view. Makes it easy for us to look for a reservation. Most of the campground reviews just show us a fast drive through with no breakdown. Great job, thanks!

One of our favorites! We are FL residents and retired. We rarely camp in our state's parks tho because it's SO difficult getting reservations, especially in Winter when the Northern folks are here enjoying our weather and parks. We REALLY enjoy your reviews. Safe travels to you!

Also a Florida resident and yes, our state parks that we financed are inundated during our mild winters by our Northern friends who stay for months. The Ocala National Forest Service campsites are all booked far in advance along with even county parks. One of our county parks, Ft. De Soto in Pinellas County, does allow county residents to book one year in advance. It is even sold out quickly in the winter months. Should we contact our state Legislators to extend this to all state parks?

Thanks to your review of the campground, we had a grand time there for 4 days last week. We drove down from KY and had site 36, while my in-laws had site 35. In addition to the glass-bottom boat tour, we rented kayaks for a couple of hours. But, I think the best fun was riding everywhere on our Lectric 2.0 bikes! We would definitely stay here again if we were in the area. Thanks again for your informational tour

We asked and they said only 2-3 of them are for hosts. There are several available but they are all pull through. We prefer back-in for more privacy

If you’re in south florida, the extra 45 min drive to Jonathan Dickinson state park is worth it over John Prince county park.
@2KrazyKampers
@2KrazyKampers 3 жыл бұрын
Absolutely. When we want a quick getaway, we go to Jonathan Dickinson. We went to John Prince once and honestly I don't think we'd go back except to do a review. The sites had no privacy, there isn't a lot of room to maneuver into your spot, the bathrooms were disgusting, there are constantly airplanes flying over you and the jet skis on the lake were annoying. The only benefit was the 30 minute drive and the fact we were right on the lake.

state parks don’t have WiFi. we have the unlimited 5G hotspot from Verizon. it costs $30 a month if you have Verizon and i think it’s $50 if you dont

By booking a day before and not showing up to the next day you have eliminated someone who needs a spot for one night. If everyone does that then there are no sites available for those emergency stops that an RV're might need. Not shaming just say'n.
@2KrazyKampers
@2KrazyKampers 3 жыл бұрын
I understand what you're saying but we are paying for the night. Florida State Parks don't let you check in until 3pm. You also can't just show up and take an open spot. They require reservations though Reserve America. During the winter months, it gets dark at 4:30 to 5, which makes it difficult. We don't want to have to pay for a day and not get to enjoy it for that day. By paying for the night before, it allows us to show up at 8am the next day, park the rig and enjoy the park. That way get a full day.
@debyarger3084
@debyarger3084 3 жыл бұрын
@@2KrazyKampers Michigan state park are also a 3pm check in and a 1pm checkout. But you must have your rig or tent on your site that first night. I watched people drop off their rigs and leave and not come back until the next day. We have arrived early and if our site is clear they allow us to go ahead and set up early. Due to covid more people are camping and our parks a filling up faster then ever. We have had to look for family run parks and boondocking sites and use the Harvest Host program. If you haven't checked it out,you should. They keep adding host all the time and they Host all over the country.

@@debyarger3084 The Florida parks won't allow us to go in early. We've gotten to the park at 2pm and they've made us sit in the parking lot until 3pm. For us, the paying for the night before allows us to get into the park first thing in the morning, otherwise you lose a day. During the summer, we usually show up on that day but many times it's after they close because most of the state parks for RVing are 3-5 hours away from us. We usually can't get there before 5pm, which is when they close. For us, we just don't want to set up in the dark so I'd rather pay the night and set up in the morning.

@@2KrazyKampers We have gotten into our sites early if they are available....I would imagine it depends on the park management.

I too book either the day before or the day after and sometimes both. My travel times and campground activities will determine whether I do or don’t. I leave campsites open for other campers as much as possible, but if I need an early or late check in/ check out for a kayak, biking, or hiking run, then I consider that the purpose of the campsite and go for it. This was an awesome review, so much so, I was considering cancelling my May 2022 trip to this park due to distance from my house and now there is no way I would cancel. In fact, I’m now bringing our bikes in addition to our kayaks! Awesome job in showing the individual campsites! Great review!
