"Silver Streak" has always been one of my favorite movies based around a train. This video is a combination of screenshots I took of the train throughout the movie. There are a few pictures of my own kit bashed Ho scale version of the engines and a few Google Image shots too.
The soundtrack to the film is fantastic and in my opinion, is some of Henry Mancini's best work.
Music credits go to Henry Mancini.

Some details, I Love this film! Ive watched it so much since I was a kid. A couple notable scenes, The final switch approach into the station just before the crash you see a series of train sheds. That is actually film of the approach into the Chicago/Northwestern station, Now Ogilive Transportation Center for Chicago Metra trains. Also in that same scene youll see an old rail viaduct crossing over which is currently the CTA Rapid Transit line for Pink and Green line trains into and out of downtown. Only the viaduct was replaced many years ago by tall steel beam girders. And in the scene when the cast steps off the train and Pryors "Holy shit!" remark !!! LOL If you look very very closely, you can actually see just behind the "CHICAGO" railroad station sign, the base of the newly completed then, CN Tower which had opened only a couple of months earlier at the time. And lastly, the locomotive which If Im not mistaken looks like an E8 unit, in its final resting location was actually filmed in Chicago's Union Station. Wonderful movie! Just watched it and DVRd it last night!

Facts about the train: The locomotives used during production were Canadian Pacific FP7's #4070 and #4067. The engines and passenger cars all carried their real running numbers and names. Much of the consist is still in use on VIA Rail, with the exception of the dining car "Wascana" which was destroyed in a derailment in 2001. CP #4070 was sold to CTCUM in the late 1970s and ran on commuter service until about 2002. The engine would later renumbered #1300. The engine was sold to a rail line in Quebec to be used for possible tourist excursions. But this never materialized and the engine has sat in unserviceable for many years. As of 2013, the engine was still in existence. But it is not known if the engine has been cut up for scrap or not since then. CP #4067 was sold to VIA Rail and renumbered to VIA #1423. The engine was retired in 1983 and became a parts source. Sadly, she was cut up sometime in the 1980s. Amtrak was originally asked to participate in the film, but declined as they did not approve of the film's portrayal of train travel. Such as George being thrown off the train, walking into Hilly's compartment while she is dressing and the runaway/crash. Filming then moved to Canada after the Canadian Pacific Railway was more than willing to loan their engines and passenger cars to the film crew. Thus, the fictional "AMRoad" was born. Although named the "Silver Streak" in the film, the consist was actually made up of rolling stock from CP's premier passenger train "The Canadian" All exterior shots were filmed in various locations around Canada, including Calgary and Toronto's Union Station. For the crash at the end of the film, a full size mock up of #4070 was driven through an airplane hanger built to resemble Toronto Union Station or "Chicago". The shot was completed in one take with various cameras set up to capture the action. In the shot just before the Silver Streak speeds into the station, the CN Turbo Train can be seen loading passengers in the background. For the uncoupling of the cars scene, Gene Wilder performed his own stunts as he felt the audience would recognize if it was him or not. The only time it isn’t him is when his character has to make a dangerous “jump” between the uncoupled passenger cars just before the crash. This was done by a stunt man for obvious reasons. (Continuity Error): When George first boards the train in Los Angeles his compartment is located in Burton Manor, the second car of the train. The following morning after he see's the professor shot, the camera zooms in on George looking out the window of Elgin Manor, the third car of the train. Later, when Sweet and George make their way to the roof of the train, Sweet grabs a piece of clothing from above the compartment window of Burton Manor. The AMRoad logos damaged the real paintjob underneath of the engines and 20th Century Fox had to pay for them to be repainted. There is a photo taken of #4067 not long after filming ended and remnants of the AMRoad logo could still be seen behind the CP Rail road name.

am i the only one who thinks these 2 engines should of been preserved along with the coaches
@Telecoaster94music
@Telecoaster94music 10 ай бұрын
Absolutely not. There are many, myself included that feel this way. All of the coaches with the exception of the dining car “Wascana” which was destroyed in a 2001 derailment, are still in use on VIA Rail for “The Canadian” although they may be retired in the coming years I’ve read. #4070 still exists as far as I know under its new number of #1300 in Quebec. But the prime mover and much of her parts has been stripped out of it. It has reportedly been purchased by a private owner and is slated to be restored for preservation. #4067 is long gone being scrapped in the 1980s. The sad thing is it’s hard for movie trains to be dubbed worthy of preservation as they are not viewed the same way as muscle cars that have been used in some of Hollywood’s biggest car movies. The “Bullitt” Mustang is a prime example of this. The only locomotive that seems to be one of the few exceptions to this rule is Sierra #3

I believe it’s in reference to the passenger cars that are assigned to the train, as they are all stainless steel. Its also a fitting name that advertises high speed rail travel. In real life, the CB&Q’s first diesel powered passenger train the zephyr was nicknamed the silver streak as it was completely silver.

At 2:05 , I don't think that's Gene Wilder; I think that's a stunt man. Gene Wilder can get thrown out of a train and do all right. If you get thrown out at 25 miles an hour, the ground would tear through your clothes and into your skin. Most people who fall from an average moving passenger train die because they go almost 90 miles an hour.
