When I went looking for a canteen and nesting cup combo I came across a stainless steel setup. I hummed and haa'd over it for weeks as it cost 37$ on amazon. After awhile and deciding I would use it enough to justify that cost I ordered it. I do like it. I like having my conatiner and pot/cup nested together. I do like the look of the SilverAnt products, especially their little alcohol stove with the cross bars and windscreen(48$) but unless they offer financing their products will remain unattainable for me haha. Great review and demonstration Mark. Thanks for sharing.

@@MarkYoungBushcraft that’s really one of the great things about bushcraft, if you have the means you can buy some really quality gear. If not there are functional cheaper options out there for the stuff you can’t make yourself readily. The outcomes are the same. Time well spent in the woods. 😊

Thanks for another great overview, Mark. As others have noted, a stainless steel or aluminum version of this product would be a good, lower cost option for many people.

Well that wide mouth is kinda nice but not $218 worth of nice. Really don't see a need for something like this & wouldn't consider shelving my G.I. canteen, cup & stove, all snug in their multi-pocket. moly carrier with multi attachment points. A marriage of steel & Nalgene goodness about $37 USD 7-8 years ago, probably half that 20 years ago when I got mine. Still works great & close to being an ultra light essential. Thanks for the comparison info!

G'day Mark, the whole point of kidney shaped bottles/cups, to my knowledge, is they carry contoured/less snaggy against ones body, sure an over the shoulder strap will still have that effect, but the absense of belt loops is very odd IMO and ........ yep with ya mate, .... gimme a pocket for a spork, hanger, (I very much like your "skewer" job btw), and ............. the Soto Helix ; ) Incidentally, no reason I can see why paper coffee filters cant also be used to "help" get the solids out of water, with the addition of boiling, that's a valuable multipurpose option right there, (at least as back up). ...... and albeit with some coffee sacrifice ; ) ........ or not actually, if you take shipload ......... or a reusable job ; ) Cheers Duke.

I have tried running water through a coffee filter and find it stops after a bit. A bandana or a Millbank bag works better for me. Thanks for commenting Duke

@@MarkYoungBushcraft Ok mate, that's good to know, thanks, ....... no coffee sacrifice necessary then ; ) I do carry a shemagh, been meaning to add a bandana for more versatility and the ol' Milbanks are great, had one back in the day, though long since lost it ; ( In more recent times I've seen "Brown's Bags" out there, was that on your channel ? ..... in any case, not inexpensive last time I looked..

With all of my bottles, canteens and jugs, i still use a plastic military canteen and ss cup. I used them while serving and used them when i hiked/camped with my dad before he passed. I would love to find a ss replacement for the canteen but the cup stays. Do they make one of the same specs? Thank you for the video.

Hi Mark,,,,I Got The Same Size Canteen But It's By Boundless Voyage. I Put The Canteen Directly Over My Gas Stove & It Worked Great But,,,,,I Did Notice The Water Had A Weird Funny Taste. Did You Ever Have Any Instances Like That ??

@@MarkYoungBushcraftgood point, Mark. I expect there may be trace amounts of oil or other manufacturing residues on the product which need to be removed before use.

The kidney shape is pointless as it is designed. That shape was a design to couture to the body for more comfort for pistol or cartridge belt use.
@TrashPandaActual
@TrashPandaActual 7 ай бұрын
I'd disagree with the kidney shape being pointless. It works well for the bottle pocket on the side of many packs. Packs bulge with gear, and the kidney shape accommodates that.

And I would add that here in Canada, in winter, with gloves or mittens the kidney shape is easier to handle than the round shape such as nalgen bottles. Moreover, it is for this reason that the nalgene bottles that I have are of the kidney form.

Do you ever "review". Anything that you haven't been GIVEN FOR FREE, ????..

Yes, Mark often reviews items he purchased himself, along with those received as family gifts.
@MarkYoungBushcraft
@MarkYoungBushcraft 7 ай бұрын
The simple answer is yes, I do review things I purchased myself. However, those items I don't pay for are not FREE. It takes me approximately 10 hours to research, plan, record and edit a video, in addition to time testing that I do not count. I don't view that as FREE.
@jamespaul2587
@jamespaul2587 7 ай бұрын
@MarkYoungBushcraft those are good points, Mark. It could also be noted that your honest and balanced reviews are helpful for viewers who are considering purchasing the items reviewed, or similar items. In several reviews you have also recommended improvements, and this feedback is helpful for the manufacturers.
