Silverback Gorilla Intimidates An New Keeper | Momotaro | Kyoto Zoo

February, 2022.
On this day, Momotaro, the silverback gorilla, was tense because of the presence of unfamiliar zoo personnel outside and a new keeper inside.
After lunch, all the gorillas except Genki went back inside, but Momotaro, perhaps worried about Genki, came outside again soon after.
The second son, Kintaro, also tried to go outside with Momotaro, but Momotaro urged Kintaro to go back inside.
However, Kintaro followed Momotaro and went outside.
The gorillas returned to the room a short time later.
When the eldest son, Gentaro, tried to approach the new keeper, Momotaro intervened and threatened the keeper.
I was impressed by Momotaro's efforts to protect his family.
This Video was taken at kyoto city zoo in 2022.

Momotaro is young but really majestic 1 very powerful gorilla .... and fortunately he seeks to protect his family it is his role as alpha male ..... well done Momo .... well-honed instinct 👍🏻😘💕

You are correct. From the articles I've read he has still to come into his power and control consistently. He has the size but he still need to be more alpha secure. His instincts are still maturing.

Ikr, I see Genki in him big-time, also, I see Genki in Kintaro. They have mama’s facial features and daddy’s body features! Cannot wait until they blossom into Adult Silverbacks in their prime❣️

Momotaro may be alert, but Genki will stay outside when she pleases. Kintaro and Gentaro love their playtime. Reminds me of other gorilla siblings out there, such as Riki and Momoka (coincidentally Momotaro's own siblings).

They are all captive. They will pass on what the have learned by a thing called social learning.

They don't have anyone else to play with. Everyone once in a while it appears that Gentaro is enjoying himself. Kintaro almost always has fun except when Gentaro get mean.

Gentaro had to be raised by humans. He is going to always be unique because of that.

It makes sense that animals also have different personalities. I see this with my dogs, as two of them warm up more easily to new people.

@@Ashmo613 Germania?. I have 2 big dogs and the biggest one is the most gentle. The other one knows he is beautiful and he is stuck up. But neither of them mess with my cat lol 😹

I think Momotaro's animal instinct tells him that something happened and he like a silverback is alert to react. Good job precious and handsome Momotaro❤️❤️❤️❤️but possibly he is jealous that they give food to his son first.

Oh i really hope in 8 1/2 months from now Genki is mothering an infant GIRL or boy (lol)-- its what she lives for!! Kentaro is less needing of her. Monotaro needs to do his Silverback duty and "get it done" soon!!! 😁

I wouldn’t call what Momotaro did “intimidate the keeper”. He ran over to the gate think they maybe had food??? But from the keepers’ movements and body language, I don’t think they were intimidated at all…my opinion.

I agree. Intimidation implies an intellectual I dont think anyone in that troop possesses. Food on the other hand is a bigger motivator than sex with these guys. Sex is a close 2nd but they are all confused humping each other 😆

Momotaro is young. I hope he grows into his power and authority. That is the only way for them to find some sort of harmony instead of an out of control back back

@@PrimeTimeGala I have noticed this as well Cringeworthy. Its sad to see a gorilla get so much hate from people he has never even met in real life... :( Rita Amunrud - is there a reason why you don't like Gentaro? I feel like he's a really good gorilla and cares for his family a lot. He's only rowdy every now and then because he's going through adolescence.. something every blackjack gorilla goes through. The stuff Gentaro does is no different than what Annie and Kiyomasa do? And I love them 2 as well.

@@PrimeTimeGala Momotaro is young as a presiding Silverback. Im not talking crap as you say. You may have a different opinion but I dont attack anyone on this site. It doesn't bother me but you might want to consider who is being petty. I researched the age of alpha males in a troop and what role the mature alpha plays. This is from scholarly articles written by scientists who devote their lives to studying these majestic creatures. I am doubtful Gentaro has the emotional maturity to ever become a Silverback unless they give him a troop with no other males in it. At least not until he is over 20 and is tested. Maybe 30 given the right circumstances to mature. It will never happen under Momotaros watch. As for my making a mistake I didnt. I wrote about what the research says about what we can expect from a young alpha Silverback.

@@olliesmith3833 I dont hate Gentaro. He is a gorilla in Japan. I dont like his behavior and it gives me pause to try and learn about something from the scholars. I dont just sit around and make stuff up. I am curious and I read. There are differing opinions out there but some things they all agree upon under specific circumstances. Keeping animals in your charge safe is not hating them. He has become a large angry male under the discipline of a young father. Anyone of breeding age can make a baby but not all gorillas have the proper sentiment about how a troop should be managed.

Tem um vídeo de quando o Momotaro conheceu a Genki, ele foi carinhoso ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤j com ela, ficou beijando a mesma... Muito bonito o vídeo !!! A Genki é 14 anos mais velha que o Momotaro que tem 23 anos, vai fazer 24 no dia 03 de julho desse ano. A Genki vai fazer 38 anos no dia 24 de junho desse ano. Os filhos: GENTARO tem 12 anos KINTARO tem 5 anos Os dois vão fazer aniversário 🎂 em dezembro desse ano.😊

It has taken him some time to recover the condition he was in before the illness, that was a setback so from now he can just grow even more huge than he was before the illness..

For everyone complaining about animals in zoos..remember for most in captivity there is nowhere to release them. Instead of complaining about animals IN captivity spend your energy protesting the poaching and habitat loss in the native areas this animal would and should be. There are barely a 1,000 western lowland gorillas left in the wild.

A videographer from another channel explained that sound comes from the amusement park next to the zoo. He said the gorillas are used to the noise.

Better watch the hired help, if any animal doesn't t like some one u can bet there is a problem with the people. Animals have an instinct regarding people around them.

That was all about Momo putting a stop to Gentaro possibly being fed treats first before him, thats it. He wanted to make sure he was first in line if there was any feeding going on.

Essas sirenes devem deixar os animais completamente alienados e perturbados. ....além do fato de estarem em cativeiro ainda são submetidos a esse tipo de tratamento desnecessário com essas sirenes!!!!!
