Lyrics:
Erupt again ignore the pill
And I won't let it show
Sacrifice the tortures
Orchestral tear cash-flow
Increase delete escape defeat
It's all that matters to you
Cotton case for an iron pill
Distorted eyes
when everything is clearly dying
Burn my knees and
Burn my knees and
Burn my knees and
E-motion sickness
Addict with no heroine
E-motion sickness
Distorted eyes
when everything is clearly dying
Burn my knees and
Burn my knees and pray
Burn my knees and
Burn my knees and pray
[All my friends say]
Get up get up get up get up
Get up get up get up
Won't you stop my pain
E-motion sickness
(To idle with an idol)
Addict with no heroine
Good things will pass
It helps with excess access
Lessons learnt
E-motion sickness
(Lost no friendship)
(Corrosive head pollution)
Lessons learnt

Only in the U S because hey couldn’t get over Kurt Cobain and the record company released a gay sounding song before gay was accepted I.e. Abuse me off their second album. 😱 My gosh!!!! I felt EXACTLY the same!!! This is turning somehow supernatural 👀 When I was a teenager, back in 2003 when I first listened to this masterpiece it instantly captivated me and touched me so much and very deep, that much that I couldn't even explain it!!! Then, just few plays after, I just couldn't listen to it anymore, it hurt me so bad, I remember myself blocking my ears, and shaking my head because I couldn't, it was so overwhelming to me but I didn't know why!!! It felt like some chaos inside, a fear, deep fears and pain inside of me that I didn't knew about... I had to stop listening to this song and that decision lasted for years, decades really. Time passed by and after all those years, when I was in a very obscure moment of my life I returned to this song (I tried before but I still couldn't), and surprisingly this time it didn't hurt me anymore, on the contrary, I felt like embraced by the song and I embraced every sound and word as well since then... Back in my teenage years, since I first listened this I was astonished by its beauty, then it felt like a chaos inside my soul and mind, a chaos I couldn't manage nor understand, but now the feeling is totally different but somehow engaged with those past feelings, it feels now like the unique place where I can feel embraced, just when I more need it. Now, with everything that happened and the point of my life I am, I'd explained what happened to me first with this song, when teenager, as some sort of premonition about the point of my life that was yet to come... and the fear, of course, because I was afraid of what was coming, afraid of where my life would be arriving. I mean, I felt something very "sui generis" as if the song, don't know how, it triggered or better I must say, it "reviewed" back then some of my future traumas... maybe that's why the chaos feeling inside my head. I intuitively thought about that explanation but logically, rationally thinking, I dismissed my own crazy interpretation about what happened years before (I've even wrote about all that feelings on a blog months ago). But now, reading you saying that just left me 🤯 !!! And yeah, of course, it totally saved my life too...

Huge fan of Muse here, and this song pleases the shit out of me. It also makes me think about the way the perfect social masks we put on to fit in end up distancing us from getting to really know the people who surround us. The scene on the train, were he stares at the asian guy (that is also clearly going through some issues), really affects me. Idk, it's like when we are in pain, everything revolves around our thoughts - like the party and the shower - and people are just floating NPCs, but when the "lessions are learned" we start seeing how similar we are to those other humans who looked like aliens earlier, how we are not that different from them. Somehow pain might have more influence on bringing people together as equals than superficial respect and politeness.

This song (and video) can bring some of the deepest emotions out of the stoniest heart. Sadness, guilt, despair... It's all there. These subjects are usually mastered by seasoned writers and philosophers, people with many years of life experience under their belts. The fact this was done by teenagers just shows the level of talent involved.

Wow. Daniel Johns is a supremely talented human being. This song reminds me of Muse a bit, but I prefer this. I've been in a severe depression and the words and music capture it so perfectly. Haunting and amazing masterpiece. The video is sad to watch... especially the part where he's lying in bed with the water. I know it's not real but still.

I have depression as a lifelong condition, myself, and I think the way the media and masses describe it is extremely distorted or self-serving. It's a very real, very difficult condition, a biological disorder, that requires active treatment. People often confuse feeling bad temporarily with having a mental disorder. A mental disorder is often for life. I've had mine since age 13 and I'm now 39 and the symptoms are still here. Just because it isn't bipolar or schizophrenia doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Mass ignorance and media distortion about the difference between a person feeling bad for a period of time and another person with a genuine disorder is the cause of all this confusion.

I don't think I ever saw this vid before today but its one of my favorite songs on that album and that scene stood out to me. I love Silverchairs extensive merge of orchestra music within the metal depth of their songs.

Though the "get up" peak is so powerful the long winded ending is what makes this song... when your anxiety and extreme depression calms for a moment and you just go back to the numbness of existing... the lack of romanticism in the every day depressed person...

It's a late night, I'm just 16. This song has been playing for the past hour or so. And I feel this pain, covered by numbness in my whole body. I lay still. I want to cry, I really do. But not a single tear drops. My soul is in pain, so confusing. I feel dead inside, but yet there is some kind of emotion keeping me alive. I try to scream but nothing comes. Oh shit, why do I feel this way? Goddddd this song! It's been years but it still makes me feel that way. But now, I smile.
