watching this takes me back to the time I saw Silverchair perform at the Royal Easter Show in the early 90's. Can't say I hear too many bands play as hard as this these days... Tim Rogers thrashing guitar with broken string... Ben charging head first into the bass drum... This is Rock 'n Roll baby!!

Tim broke a string pretty early on in the song which is the out of tune guitar your hearing and there is some sloppy playing other than that i reckon the cover is fucking awesome! it speeds up its out of tune its chaos its fuckin rock n roll this is how it should be. I watched this the night it was on and taped it on VHS and watched it a thousand times before youtube came around. You won't see a performance like this on the aria's anymore. And yes silverchair are a fantastic band! whether you like them or not it cannot be denied

yeah so what Ben made a mistake. Focus on the great cover of a great song featuring the 1 & only Tim Rogers!! A time when the Arias actually ROCKED! When did everthing become so sanitised and safe and fucking lame?! oh well. AT least I was a teenager in the 90s. Fuck being a teenager now. You know I remember when I was young a cool wooden cubby house thing at the local park (West Albury) I loved it older kids had written stuff around and it had CHARACTER. We're talkin a playground. That's where I learnt the work Kunt (so I thought it was spelt with a K ha ha ) I'm talkin I was only about 9 or 10 and ...now? Well that cool triple storey wooden thing got replaced by the same old sanitised 'safe' PLASTIC play-grounds fuck it I juts went and kicked the footy with me mate Alex (by this stage I was a teenager) and...well....wtf?!

I'd forgotten how embarrassing Australian mainstream alternative bands were in the 90's. Love the head butt through the bass drum though.... These are the BAD 'punk' things we learn not repeat through experience eh Ben? Next time sling your guitar through it mate... Less painful!

Frosty Jim perspective Frosty. I can respect your opinion-but I stand by my comment. The guy might have been "big in Oz" ( i assume Oz means Australia) and to be fair -i hsve heard SC members refer to hiis band idyllically in old interviews-STILL, if anything it should be him that feels fortunate from hindsight, that during his csreer he can boast thst he performed with what would become Australia's biggest selling and most popular /beloved band in History. Not to mention, Silverchair /"Innocent Criminals-tje embryonic beginnings of SC) were all the ripe old age of 12-13 when the band got togerher - changing the bands name and within a year or so rrleased Frogstomp, containimg a song that was a massive hit around the world-that would be "Tommorow" of course. "Phenomenon" doesn't come close to describing the whole SC story. They were a zeitgiest that no other Aussie band comes remotely close to. Curiosity compelled me to search examples of "you am I" songs/vids.. I didn't get it. I'd put them in the same mediocre category as "powderfinger"-another "big in Aussie band"- peers of SC as well. I suppose the boys liked certain elements from tnsse musicians, understood. However SC , and Daniel , echoed by Ben & Chris -talked about Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple -bands their Dads listened to -as their major influences. Followed by punk bands -Minor Threat for example, and the boys listened to a plethora of music genre's outside the scope of and limitations of "rock". Tney absorbed elements to experiment with their own music -from places far outside the tired comparisons of (RIP) "grunge". A sitar? Complcated jazz piano embellishments, whole orchestral arrangements- incorporporating interperatations of those sounds into their own music. it's obvious. All SC members emphatically refused to remain stagnant -and Daniel especially ( when he unofficially and excusively took over completely the reingns of songwritimg for the band after Freak Show) . Prodigy doesn't justifiably describe DJ. He took risks in his songwriting -risks that shouldn't work. But brilliantly did so. He wrote and composed "Neon Ballroom" arguably SC's masterpiece-before he 20 years old. Amazing. To the under current of objection from thelr management/record company exec's-whom's whole trajectory for a band under contract is: produce hit after hit and sell out concerts...on repeat. And DON'T even concider changing that winning formula. To which SC replied F-U Neon Ballroom was a PR's nighmare. Tney wanted more Frogstomp. Or "Freak Show". Tnelr opinion was NB was dead in the water. No radio friendy hits. ( an absolute must in thar era -tne lynch pin to a massive selling record. Does anyone even listen to radio these days?) The record deviated ....defiantly really, ignored the "formula". Even the most fanatical SC fan may have had mixed feelings about NB -but not for long. 20+ years later the record ( for me ) is a journey. Not to be mistaken as a "concept" album like Brick in the Wall. NB whisks the listener away -into a dark fantasy -Daniel's hallmark is bleeding out his own raw emotions, unburdening himself by venting what he feels through his music . if he's in an abyss, he's taking thr listener with him. NB is a 50 minute rollercoaster -descending into the murky depths of depression, despair, anguish and isolation - it's an exhausting ride , but it imperceptively turns the tides-DJ holds the listener's hand up and out of the sludge -transitioning to a place of comfort and glimpse of light - manic depression expressed musically. Sorry Dude lol, i dont usually write 10 mile long replies/comments...or comments in general. But a small number of topics elicit strong responces -SC is one ad you can see. My usual replies are tne universal "thumbs up /thumbs down" Regarding SC -im not alone -diehard fans -some ive become youtube penpals with, understand innately. I suppose that sentiment or "point of view" 😁 could be applied to any person toward any topic they are passionate about,. Anyway-it hasnt happened for a while - but my standarrd responce to trolls complaing about mine (or anyone's) comments is: It took you much longer to critisize / bitch about a lengthy comment - when in four seconds, you could have just scrolled down. thank u PEACE🦋

Am I the only one who thought that Tim was the good bit here? Silverchair are a great band, but Tim was just playing the chords, so the bad guitar sound must be coming from Daniel here. I thought the way Tim came in high rather than low worked really well.

Can you not handle an out of tune guitar or bad guitar playing? Ever heard of a famous band of Led Zeppelin? Clearly you haven't because Jimmy Page plays like shit live but that's what makes it awesome. It's rock and roll not jazz...
