In my favorite bathroom was a colony of these little guys living in the wall under a heater unit serving the adjacent bedroom; some were reddish, some silver, some mixed w/ the silver tending forward. They were easily nearly an inch long. The earlier population seemed to have a cephalothorax, w/ streamlined eyes fitted like the headlights of a 60s Fiat Spider, and would walk in arcing patterns, sweep a piece of floor, thru which it would proceed in a sweep to the opposite direction; the later separate-headed ones were more flexible in their behavior. The ancient 3-tailed configuration & corresponding very old & peaceful vibe made these among my favorite critters 💜.

I find these little guys hanging around the walls or my bathroom sink from time to time. Sometimes I kill em and sometimes I just leave em there, cause if I'm gonna be perfectly honest, most of the time, they hardly move as much as a cockroach or spider would, so they don't bother me that much. Silverfish are chill.

@miskakopperoinen8408
@miskakopperoinen8408 2 жыл бұрын
@@cocoduck7745 No. However you should avoid eating or inhaling them especially if you find them in your shower drain or some other place that's likely to be filthy. Snorting powdered sewage probably isn't the best use of your time. Anyhow, they aren't venomous at all nor are they poisonous. They don't have stinger or suitable proboscis to attack humans. They defend themselves by avoiding dangerous environments and their upper, silvery exoskeleton affords them a measure of protection against careless predators by virtue of being tough.

Lots of silverfish in the Los Angeles area. They like to hang out on bookshelves and corners. Cute, fuzzy, harmless. When I was kid, I’d try to catch them and only end up with fingers full of silvery fluff.

I don't recall ever seeing silverfish down here in South Florida. But I do remember seeing them as child, when I stayed with my father in Virginia and I also remember typically finding them in the bathtub or sink.

Don't really know anything about Minecraft but I love these little guys. I currently have an army of them. The common silverfish (Lepisma saccharina?) are my favourite. I love watching them groom. They curl up to groom their rear bristles like cats. And the light to dark metallic silver colouring is so pretty.

I was so confused the first time I found a silverfish in Minecraft, they looked like mice or rats to me and I had such a crisis that I had to ask Google and also multiple people what a silverfish was to confirm that it is in fact a bug. Even then I still thought they just decided to make silverfish the in game name for rats. So today I learned that those really are supposed to be bugs.

They also eat mold and its spores, dead skin tissue, hair, dead bugs etc. They usually don't cause any harm, but if you have a lot of them it's a sign that there's most likely water damage near the area they congregate to so they're really useful in letting you know about that ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I have silverfish in my bathroom all the time and because of this I can't store towels there. I also have to keep the light on 24/7 but they still come. I once had a big silverfish jump on my hand when I tried to grab the towel after showering and, well, I screamed and cried for like 30 minutes. After that - no more towels in there, so I have to keep the door open when I'm showering because I put a chair with the towel on it next to the bathroom. I also brush my teeth in the kitchen because I saw silverfish on my toothbrush when it was in my bathroom. And I've seen silverfish in my room - in a sock, on the ceiling, in a CANDLE, on my backpack, on my bed (that was the worst moment ever), on the wall and on the window sill (one at a time obviously, it's not like my room is fully infested). They also have eaten my wet tissues. I hate silverfish. I'm scared of them and it's always frustrating when I see one but it escapes too quickly. They're in my mom's bathroom too. I do clean and vacuum clean my room, we also get our apartment cleaned professionally twice a week. So idk why the silverfish are there - our apartment is pretty clean. Do you have any idea why they could be there? Because it started in my bathtub and then they apparently spread almost all over. But it's not like I see them everywhere, no, but it's still terrifying when I see like 2 of them daily or weekly.
@AnimalFactFiles
@AnimalFactFiles 5 жыл бұрын
Ugh. I can relate. I was stung by a scorpion hiding out in my bath towel. It's quite the vulnerable feeling. As for the silverfish, I am by no means an expert, but they probably like your bathroom specifically because of the moisture in there. I would also guess that they're living in other apartments around you as well, and that's giving them a place that may be less clean to find homes. It could also have to do with the construction of the building itself and its age. We live in a townhome and I see cockroaches (and crickets?!?!) pretty frequently - but our building was built in the 70s. The good news is that silverfish are generally harmless, though I can understand how that still doesn't help with the creepy crawly feeling they might give you. I've heard of people using cinnamon sticks around the places they find the silverfish, but I have no idea if that actually works. I hope you're able to figure things out soon! That's definitely a tough situation.

about a year ago "ctenolepisma longicaudata" which is a nasty variation of these have invaded Denmark and Norway big time. We have the "normal" small silverfish and that one has always been here. The new kind did massive damage in libraries in Norway, and since they are a new species everyone thought they were just normal silverfish at first. But this one is resilient, can live in all your rooms not only wet areas/kitchen. They can even climb walls and ceilings and get twice as big (up to 2 cm if i remember correct). My home got invaded little over 1 year ago. I've been fighting them ever since, they are everywhere but come out at night mostly. I think most houses in the world have some variations of these, they are just hard to spot when they are not out of control. My ex didn't know she had them, but i noticed them the first time i spend the night at her place. Since i've had them myself i gave her some glue traps and told her to lay it in the bathroom over night. The next day that glue trap cought around 50 of these guys and she was freaking out. At the moment they have spread to this whole apartment complex, also neighboring buildings. Amazing and resilient little buggers
