I am original owner of this amp purchased for me in 1965 by my dad when I was 8 yrs. old. Glad I never sold it. Still works great.

Those tremolo tones were fabulous, the lovely tube driven throb just sounded the real deal.

When I was a kid in 1965-1966, I played in an 8th grade garage band. I always wanted your exact rig: a Mustang and a Sears (affordable) piggyback amp. Couldn’t afford it then. But now I have a Mustang and a Twin Reverb nearly 55 years later. Let’s play “Satisfaction” and “Wipeout”!

Look what Sears and Roebuck were doing in the 60s! Something for everybody. Wish I had a Sears catalog from 1964.

It really is nice to hear someone demoing gear by playing stuff I’d actually play myself I’ve been hunting for gear recently and it’s very, very difficult to evaluate demos when everything is sort of idiomatically bluesy, metal, country, etc.

Thank you so much for doing this video. Sears Silvertone amps are great. I knew. guy in 1981 who brought one over so we could jam and that thing sounded great. They break up really well and roll the guitar volume down and it cleans up great. Just a great amp.

I have the JHS Twin Twelve pedal, which does a pretty good job of emulating the Silvertone 1484's tubes... great vid! Those ghost tones sounded sick

The Silvertone 1484 is exactly the same as the Danelectro DS-50 which I'm currently servicing: both schematics are available on the web. 2 x 6L6GC puts you into the 40W-50W ballpark, and this really is Danelectro's Bassman. Great demo...

Nice amp! You're right, there aren't a lot of demos of this amp despite it's popularity. I've got an early '65 1484 with original Amperex/RCA tubes and original Jensens, and it has a super-clear 'Hifi' sound with a single coil guitar like a Tele or Casino. The Burstbucker 1 and 2 humbuckers from my Les Paul will overdrive this amp at any volume, even with the guitar volume rolled way off. My favorite guitar with this amp was my '64 reissue Gibson ES-345 with Varitone control. The pair of low-output humbuckers were perfect from moving from clean to dirty without having to use pedals. I have two 1483’s and two 1484’s and the best part is none of them sound the same! Love the 1483’s though, squishier less booming sound thanks to the tube rectified circuit and not solid state rectified like the 1484. Both have their charms.

"7 and 7 is" nice! love ure vids! u hear like i hear, Ive had a 76 mustang for 10 years and I always thought I was gonna get a "real guitar" someday (strat, les paul, etc.) but, combined with owning a strat and not liking it that much plus ure vids, I've decided that my mustang is the best guitar 4 me. i love the neck and I love how low output yet transparent the pickups are. its got better dynamics and better tone and volume control than any guitar I think I've played.

I love the sound of this amp ! Silvertone made great amps. I have. 1481 Silvertone amp...having it worked on soon by a expert amp modifier/repair guy. I have a line on a 1484 Silvertone and highly probability I'll be buying it soon ! I have a 1966 Vox Cambridge Reverb v1031 solid state and it sounds very close to tube...the reverb n tremolo are amazing ! I have a 1967 Gibson Medalist 4/10 amp...huge vertical reverb tank...sounds amazing along with the tremolo as well. I have a 2003 Fender Blues Jr as well...about to have a Fromel complete upgrade kit installed in it. Finally, have a Vox Valvetronix hybrid...it has like 12 pre-installed sounds in it, including AC130 and AC15 sounds...sounds pretty good too. I find each amp has its own distinct sound !!! I always thought the 1484's were 60 watts and the 1483's were 20 watts. I've got a really beat up 1482 that I just adore. I wish it were a bit louder, but it has an unbeatable grittiness. You're making me wanna try out one of those Jensen Mod speakers. Lovely tones and your lessons are fantastic.

OH MY GOD when you turned the volume down and reverb up?! What in the hell! That is awesome. My Twin 12's reverb doesn't work and wish I could try this! Grateful the tremolo works.

I just found another one of these locally in great original shape with the original Jensens and RCA silvertone 6L6’s and 12ax7’s still going strong. Price was right so I couldn’t resist.. I’m now up to three 1484’s and they all have their own thing goin’ on 🤯 The 1483’s are still my favorite probably.

For those watching more recently, with slightly higher output PuPs, in a Strat, or Gretsch, breaks up so freakin' nicely at a really moderate volume, thats its really golden. My LP custom shop R8 is unbelievably amazing for vintage tone. I attenuate through a Two Notes Reload, and push the output tubes to around 85%, and its a freakin' growling rock machine, in classic style. MUCH more handler then its big brother for bedroom/home recording. Currently pushing through modern Vintage Jensen C12N 2 x 12 solid Pine cab, but sounded god-like through a pair of Fanes in a 2 x 12 cab...GREAT home studio amp...hell, this thing sounded fantastic in a venue with the 2 x 12 fane cab....every guitar I own, Humbucker, Single coil, Filtertron, P-90, all play great through this thing. You can find a tone for almost everything if your looking for 60's to 70's stuff. For recording, EVERY studio should have one...mine sits right next to my JCM-800 and my Hiwatts...

You get incredible tones out of this gear! I've never used an attenuator and I've never owned a vintage tube amp (my main amp is a 20w Laney Lionheart combo), but I definitely feel a lot of tone envy when I watch your channel. You know, I've nearly invested in a Strymon Flint twice now, based solely on your demos. But they suck a lot of power and my board runs on a Volto. Plus, you know, money.

I played through one of these as a kid. I saw Steve Stills play through one in about 2006 or so. IMO there's a bit of attack compression on big chords. It's not a bad thing.

At 5:50, I think you were trying to remember the 6CG7 tube. Most of the Danelectro-built amps will have one or two of them, depending whether or not they have Reverb. Theyre somewhat like a 12AU7 in a taller bottle and with a different pin assignment, definitely not directly interchangeable (and the 12AU7 12AX7 family of tubes can run off 6 or 12 volt filament Supply, but the 6 cg7 will only work on 6 volts). 6CG7s were manufactured in huge quantities for television news, so there's plenty of New Old Stock ones still around and they're not all that expensive. You will see them in some of the Vintage McIntosh amplifiers as well.

My first electric guitar was a Silvertone Stratocaster copy. The electeonics eventually failed so I gutted it and put in some premium electronics and new pickups. The new parts cost more than the guitar did initially but now it's super solid and beautiful sounding. It was all worth it. The guitar means too much to me to get rid of it. Still a workhorse.

You have inspired me. I bought a similar used one about 50 years ago. Mine is a 1483 - no reverb - no tremolo. Do I dare try to fire it up? I'm sure it hasn't been energized in 30 years. Loved the playing. I liked the show Longmire too.

When I saw Stephen Stills in New Orleans he had 2 of these.It sounded very similar to this.The Mustang has it's charm! Ringing notes don't stick around long I noticed.Cool video!

Great vids. Digging the Ry Cooder one. I have a 1484 head that I play through a Tremolux cab with three Jensen alnico 10's. I plan on making a twin 12 cab using finger jointed pine ( I'm a cabinet maker) and want the best sounding speakers for the buck. I looked at the Jensen Mod speakers and they offer four versions. Which ones would you recommend for the 1484?

You might have just sold me on that attenuator. I've had a 1484 for about a year and I love it but I play it through a 4-ohm 4x12 mostly. Anywhere above say 10-o-clock volume and it starts blowing my face off.

Stuff was so simple and quality back when it was made in the us. Even some of the early solid states that lasted sound great.

Under what conditions did you blow the original Jensens? I have two 1484’s, one that is scary mint and original and another that’s VG- and covered in rust, etc. The rusty one drives earlier! But the clean one stays cleaner longer (pretty funny huh?) haha but I’m wondering if I should chill on the cranking the minty example since it has the original Green Jensens. Did yours have those or another type of speaker? I feel like they used more than one type of Jensen throughout the years of production

I think I saw one of your posts on a forum about this amp. Did you end up getting this sucker recapped? How'd it affect the sound? I've got one myself and am debating bringing it in to get some out of value caps replaced. Great demo!

I do love these amps I owned one for a time in the late 90s however the reason I got rid of mine was I accidentally put the cab down a little too hard one day and noticed a minor crack forming at the bottom of the cab. Although these amps are amazing Tone monsters, and I bought it primarily for the Vintage cool factor and the original p12q Jensen's I realized that the cabinet would not survive my gigging life...particle board was not meant to survive the Millennia

Hello Eric. I'm thinking that you would be a great person to inquire about taming my '59 Bassman Combo? Would the Weber Mini Mass 100W do that job? Or do you know of any other way to tone down the volume for club gigs but still keep the break up point sound going on and that Bassman sound, ou know what I'm saying. That amp is a perfect part of my wet/dry set up. Not a lot of answers out there specific to this amp's 2 ohm output to those 3x10's?

I guess I'd like something that breaks up a tad to contrast with the super cleans of the Twin. Do you have any suggestions? I love the sound of your Siltertone, but alas there are none for sale in my area.

How your high stings ring out, in the exact tone I'm after

I've seen the Weber make more and more appearances in your videos of late. Are you still satisfied with the purchase? (Opinions on forums over attenuators tend to run hot-and my inclination is to disregard the shouting matches altogether.) I don't have huge wattage for an amp-a tweed Blues Junior III (with the Jensen speaker)-but, living in a small, 1940s apartment with plaster-and-lathe walls means that the difference between 1.8 and 2 on the Master Volume is the width of a gnat's hair between too quiet and upsetting the neighbours… The Universal Audio OX box has caught my attention too, but I'm aiming to make measured steps in the meantime and feel like the Weber is a good place to start.

LOVE the 1484s but Mesa Boogie? Really? You have to put Jensen P12Qs in there! Also, these do break up right around 4-5 but not with low output single coils. You need humbuckers!
