I have found Semyon Bychkov to be an excellent conductor in many styles and musical cultures. Instead of imposing his personal perspectives, he lets the music speak for itself.

I love the shot of those 2 men going completely bananas on those drums. All the percussions in this piece are great. I didn't expect it the first time i heard this piece in the philharmonic, but when it came up, I was absolutely smiling from edge to edge.

Yet another of these outstanding performances from the past (with 2010 being a little more recent than some from around 2000). The actual age doesn't matter, as they are high quality recordings and have captured these glowing and wonderful performances undimmed. In this case, the work is unfamiliar to me, so an added plus to the discovery. Thanks, yet again.

La version de Dudamel est plus typée, mais elle n'a pas la classe de celle-ci. Pour avoir été présent au concert, l'orchestre a juste été énorme, et les percussionnistes ont joué le jeu dans le 3ème mouvement avec une bonne humeur très communicative. Bychkov a fait tout ce qu'il sait faire d'habitude : clarté, cohérence dans l'assemblage d'épisodes qui peuvent paraître dangereusement disparates, énergie et contrôle du son, monumentalité et simplicité.

Buena la interpretación de la Noche de los mayas mi observación de los instrumentos de persecución les hubiera salido de 100 ya que le da más vida a la musica de Silvestre Revueltas me hubiera gustado ver esos hermosos TEPONAZTLES, CARACOLAS O CARACOLES DE MAR Y SONAJAS .

A través de los años me doy cuenta al escuchar ésta obra que la primera grabación que realizo José Ives Limantour con la Orq. Sinfónica de Guadalajara sigue siendo insuperable

Sin duda esta ejecución es especial. Pero me gusta más como la dirigió Alondra de la Parra con la orquesta sinfónica de Paris.

@Linda Miranda 👋 Me gustó la versión de las percusiones con la orquesta de París y la dirección de Alondra, tenían buena armonía. 🤠 Y las percusiones no tenían sonidos tan metálicos. 💁 Al parecer cada orquesta toca con distintos tambores, aquí hasta piano y otros instrumentos hubo en esa sesión. 🤓 Los señores de los timbales parece que estaban tocando algo afro o algo así. 😃 Se han emocionado y divertido en esa sesión. 😺 Tuvieron buenos momentos juntos. Las flautas me gustaron más con esta orquesta alemana. 🙂

No lo sé, siento que las versiones de Alondra en general no me agradan. Siento que no comprende muy bien a Revueltas, esta versión por otro lado tiene toques muy buenos y detalles exquisitos. Tan solo las cuerdas tienen una profundidad más bella, y el primer movimiento logra el aire misterioso que se refleja en la pieza, mientras que el segundo movimiento tiene el toque justo del son… sobre todo con las onomatopeyas que hace la tuba, súper bien logradas

This Limantour's "version" of the 36 musical sequences that Revueltas wrote for the movie is a completely joke!!! Limantour made it to promote himself as a conductor in Europe in the 60s, playing with this bullshit idea of exotism, so well known by Europeans and which still in the mentality of many Latin-Americans, as the comments here and the attitude of some today's conductors shows. I strongly recommend reading the article of Mr. Neuhaus on this subject, "La noche de los mayas: crónica de una performance de otredad exótica": www.sibetrans.com/trans/public/docs/15-trans-2014_1.pdf

What the f. . .k! Sorry about that, but it's my total reaction to Rodrigo Roderico's comment. I know nothing of the background to his comment, but coming to the music fresh and unknowing, I found it quite enjoyable. Isn't an approach like this is what music is all about - that is, making new discoveries on your journey and expanding your experience and knowledge. Sure, some discoveries are better than others, but most add to the whole of your musical journey. For me, this is a bit different, and fun.
