i lived in a place called Balasore from 1990 to 1996..worked for a company..came in contact with Bengali culture as my colleagues were all Bengalis..then I happened to hear about Satyajit Ray...at that time I could not afford a computer..now I am watching this movie at the age of 55..Salute to the great master and i love the culture of Bengalis...i am a native of mangalore and basically goan in culture as I am christian

I don't' even speak this language. I planned to play for 5 minutes if it did not go no where I was ready to switch but after the whole movie, I have become more inquisitive of the ending. further I just cant' understand how I missed a masterpiece like this. Thanks for the subtitles.

বর্তমান সময়েও ভীষণ প্রাসঙ্গিক একটি ছায়াছবি,কত সুন্দর ছবি মুগ্ধতায় পরিপূর্ণ। সত্যজিৎ রায় স্যারের পরিচালিত সব সিনেমাই অসাধারণ ও অনবদ্য। কমেন্ট করে গেলাম 23/10/2023 কোচবিহার জেলা থেকে।

Breathtaking! This movie is so deep and each character is so well developed. I watched it twice to really appreciate this masterpiece. The cynical character of Sudarshana - her neverending questions of good and bad; and her sober silence is so discomforting. I remember the dinner table conversation from Jono Aranya where the elder brother tells his father 'shob proshner tou arr shohoj uttor Hye na' while they talk about Commission and bribes(basically corruption). The writer aka Shankar not only portrayed Shyamalendu's ambitious attitude towards life he also showed how he became ambitious (peer pressure, wife's obsession and his own expectations). Also, there's a sexual tension in between Sudarshana and Shayamalendu and it is from Shaymal's side mainly - the way he keeps on trying to impress her and the way he reacts on knowing about her Boyfriend (though the portrayal could have been more natural). The story keeps on building up till the 3/4 part of the movie and it grows more interesting from the late night discussion of Personnel officer and Shyamal. The discussion was next level - I experienced immense emotional thrill in those 2 minutes of the movie. Also, Sudarshana's question about the Directors' meeting room: Apnar ei ghar ta k niye ato obsession kno?' and that shows how we humans start to value vague stuffs which has no objective cause to our existence and to achieve that we snatch the objective necessities of the workers - like the personnel officer was apathetic about the injury of the watchman - infact it didn't even matter if the watchman died. I never write a review. This is my most favourite film now, next to it is Jono Aranya. I wanted to write more about the nitty gritty of this gem but I will refrain from doing so. The viewers of Satyajit Ray's film are matured. ♥️

শেষ দৃশ্যটা দেখে এতটুকু অন্তত বুঝলাম যে সবাইকে simultaneously খুশি রাখা একজনের কাজ কখনোই হতে পারে নাহ্। একেকজনের ভালো-মন্দের অনুভূতিটাই একেক রকম।

What a starkly realistic poetry on celluloid! Especially the scene between the elderly parents and the young lot in the party!

the purity of emotions come with the truly dispossessed...Tutul's character was magnificently portrayed by Sharmila Thakur....it takes multiple viewings over a long period to understand Ray's obsession with details and his narration of a story sometimes more by expressions than by dialogues

এখানে একটা বিজ্ঞাপন যেটা রঙীন এবং ছায়াছবির অন্তর্গত ছিলো, দেখানো হয় নি। যত দূর মনে পড়ছে Peter ফ্যানের বিজ্ঞাপন যেখানে একটি সারমেয় জিভ বার করে হাঁপাচ্ছে Peter ফ্যানের সামনে বসে, সমুদ্রের জল, হয়েতো বা কোনো সুন্দরী মহিলা something like that. বিজ্ঞাপনটা খুব interesting এবং সত্যজিতবাবুর মস্তিস্কপ্রসূত। উনি বিজ্ঞাপন জগতেরও মানুষ ছিলেন কিনা! 🙏

This has always been a very favourite Ray movie. Loved Sharmila and Barun Chanda on it. It becomes more interesting to watch it after reading "The Man who knew Too much" by Barun Chanda as you get an insight about many of the scenes in this movie besides a lot of incidents before and after the movie. That book is a must read if you are Ray fan.

What a wonderful movie, and what a striking looking fellow. We talk about these 6 abs, 8 abs fellows in today's age of filters and all, and here is this tall, enchanting looking man in those days. The sheer insensitivity and coldness of the protagonist and the talukdar and the crass joke about the watchman was shocking and not so shocking.

Nayak and seemabadho are different movies with different plot . However there are many similarities 1: The movie started on focussing on a powerful protagonist (Nayak- uttam kumar, seemabadho-barun Chanda) . Nayak focuses on a journey of a actors life and seemabadha focus on a high paying Corporate top executive. 2: There was a female protagonist also who tries to understand his journey, mind , life , emotions and principles about life . Sharmila Tagore played both roles in both movies brilliantly. Both female characters don't want much crowd attention. Both female characters idea became disappointed after knowing the true reality of the protagonists life. However the lead characters played in both movies are quite different 1: Barun chandas role potrays a meritorious cunning person with organized life . Uttam kumars character in Nayak potrays a hard working talented actor with indisciplined life.

Most difficult part of corporate culture at that time was maintaining English attire in hot, humid Calcutta weather

Thanks for this upload. Improved picture quality. But may I ask why do you change the aspect ratio? By changing to widescreen ,you cropped the original video that is really stupid thing to do. Pardon my language but when a cinematographer make a scene, every aspect of that scene in crucial for the story. I cannot watch a cropped movie from one of the greats. 😞
